Spend the extra $20 and get these over the 3" Mackies

Was going to get the Mackie CR3 CR Series 3" Creative Reference Multimedia Monitors (Pair), Black, 3", but spent the extra $20 for the 5" woofer (compared to 3" on the Mackies) and the extra 200w. For comparison, the Pair Mackie CR5BT 5" Studio Monitors/Computer Speakers+Bluetooth+Isolation Pads. Those are only 50w like the 3" as well. I haven't heard the "static" that others have mentioned in the reviews, (though there is always going to be the "noise" that Class A speakers have) so I just could be lucky I guess. I recommend to others if it's that noticeable exchange them for another pair, they are really fantastic speakers. I absolutely LOVE these things and they can really put out some noise. They could easily be loud enough for a good sized house party, they just wouldn't have enough bass to give it a real "club" feel. Just using them in my studio I leave them at about 1/4 power and if I'm really jamming I still never get above 1/3 on my mixer. They sound really crisp as well, they don't distort. They put out a good clean sound - that can also get quite loud as well. The only thing I wish that they had that the Mackie CR3s have is Bluetooth - not for hooking up for producing, but just to jam out with or hook a phone up, something of that nature. But I can easily hook a headphone -> RCA cable up to my mixer (or the speakers themselves), so Bluetooth isn't that big of a necessity. As far as my credentials for judging/rating these speakers (as opposed to some one who equates volume-that-makes-your-ears-bleed with quality sound) go: I've been a DJ for 13 years spending over a decade of gigging in clubs around the city - for a good stretch of it every night of the week. As far as pro audio goes, I learned from a guy I DJ'd with. He's a classically trained club owner, musician, and also a promoter in the business for 20 years at the time I began working with him. He (and later I) setup the majority of the city's local clubs' sound and lighting systems. For big shows and events he is usually the one to rent gear from when the clubs needed to rent gear (for the gear that's in the artist's riders). Even if not needed, we generally ran sound for the big events as well. Seriously, buy these speakers. This is by far the longest review I've ever written (not just on Amazon), but I wanted to make sure I got all the information in here to support my argument as to why I can't recommend these enough.

A Great Sub for my Small Home Studio

I have 2 reference monitors and it always seemed like something was missing. I got the APM10B 10" sub an it filled in the missing sound element. I followed the instructions and placed the APM10B in the middle between the 2 reference monitors and the sound now has that something that was missing. I have the volume and low by pass mid way at the 12 o'clock position and the sound is just right - very full and just the right amount of bass. It really makes a big difference having the sub in the middle and the bass now sounds right - in the middle. Great price on a great sub. Highly Recommended.

Great monitors for the low

Excellent product. I had a pair of my audio bx8s before these. It broke my heart to part ways with the $600 pair of m-audios. I loved them. Anyways I replaced them with these. I'm blown away. For a third of the cost of the bx8s I feel like like I have a solid set of monitors that look way better in my home studio. These mfs look nice and sound decent. The price, quality, and style gets this 5 stars.

Great little sub

I bought this last year before anyone had posted any reviews about it. It was about 50 bucks cheaper. My buddies who are serious audio files made fun of me for purchasing this off brand studio sub compared to their 300-400 dollar subs. Yes I was being thrifty but it paid off. They changed their tune once I hooked it up. Had to go on YouTube to figure it out how to connect to my studio monitors. Thing bangs shakes my whole upstairs. Keep in mind this is only supposed to be a reference sub and not used for what I just mentioned but I cant help it sometimes. Now I'm helping my bro set up his studio and I'm back again to buy another one... Great investment!

Diamond in the Rough

Let me start by informing you that I have owned only passive monitors with a dream of one day being able to have a set of nice active monitors. I am really picky when it comes to my sound. With previous passive monitors, I would bring them to the music store, and pair them up with different amps so I could find the best sounding amp that worked with the monitors. It was a fun adventure, but being a parent and not having the free time, I knew I needed to go active for my next set. I didn’t have the funds to drop $1000+ on active 8inch monitors so I started looking at smaller speakers. The Rockville 5inch caught my eye and found they made 8 inch versions for under $500. I couldn’t figure out why they got my attention (Other than the price point) as I hadn’t even heard them in person or heard of the brand before. I watched these speakers and did 8 months of research (literally started looking up EVERYTHING I could back in June). From how they are made, where they are made, the types of materials put into them, quality control tests the company performs, different vendors that sell their products, countless hours of online videos, cause I couldn’t believe I found a quality active 8 inch monitor for under $500. Finally, (after approval from my wife of course) I made the purchase. Upon receiving them right on time compared to the estimated delivery date, I unboxed them and let them sit inside for 24 hours before I plugged them in. I started the break in process with listening at low volume for 20 hours, then I started increasing the volume. I still haven’t taken them over half volume and my neighbors asked me if I had a full blown PA system in my house. They are CLEAN sounding, they get loud without distorting, and they are nice to look at as well. I have ran music through them, electronic drum kit, I used a DI and a pedal to put my guitar through them and all of it sounds astounding. Warm rich tone that isn’t boomy or too full of bass. Just a nice balance. My only complaint and because I have to nitpick a little. The power switch is on the back which I found mildly inconvenient, they are hooked up to a surge protector/power conditioner now so I don’t have to reach behind them to shut them off or turn them on anymore.

Good Quality

My mom purchased these for my 22 year old nephew for Christmas, and I was over there to help her wrap presents. These speakers were so heavy that I took one out and wrapped it, kept the other one in the box and hid it upstairs. As a joke, when he opened his present and saw that there was only one, he LQQKED up with a puzzled look on his face. I said, "Oh. The guy on Ebay said you could probably find the other one for cheap after Christmas." He just sat there a minute and then replied, "Ha Ha, you're kidding. But I would have believed you if you had wrapped the other speaker instead. This is the connecting one." Darn. Anyway, he loves and is happy with his speakers (uses them in a condo he shares with friends) and he says they are very good quality. :O)

Rockin' With the Rockvilles!

Fantastic "speakers"! These Studio Monitors are just what the doctor ordered! Powered by a Pioneer A-91D (120 W RMS/channel) these Studio monitors not only deliver startlingly crisp and clear low volume listening, but they REALLY perform well with a few (to a LOT of) watts behind them! We purchased the wood-tone faced cabinets and couldn't be more pleased! If you're looking at Studio Monitors for the first time (switching from speakers) there's a slight learning curve - however, you'll be thrilled with the results! Rockville has other equipment as well - I purchased (through Amazon) their 31 band two-channel equalizer - I couldn't be happier!

Love it. Get it now. For real !!

Bought on a Saturday and I received my speakers on Wednesday. Straight out of the box, it sounds amazing. I'm a drummer and I record a bunch of live drums and these set of speakers are amazing for it. I honestly haven't cranked it to it's max but half way through get pretty loud. These are great sounding speakers with decent low ends and has a lot of clarity. If you are looking for good clarity with good low ends and a lot of volume, get these. I am super super happy with the purchase and I definitely recommend it. And for the price compared to it's competitors, these Rockville speakers are rocking. Don't know why more people are not buying it haha.

Solid subwoofer, good enough for pro studio recording use.

This sub is an incredible value for only $150! I doubt you'll find a subwoofer constructed with components of similar quality for anything under $300. I have this integrated in a pretty high end set up (Focal CMS 40s, being fed by a Lavry DA in a well treated room). The sub is clean, and does output a good amount for 200W. It's not nearly as [relatively] transient as the Focals (honestly not many/if any speakers under $1.5k are!)--but I think you would need a subwoofer that was 3x as powerful (and at least that much more expensive). That's not a gripe on this sub -- just a comparison that I have. I have it dialed in for sub bass (LPF at ~55Hz), and it's serving its job quite well. +1 Also for good looks and solid construction.

Best speakers you're going to find for this price. Incredibly wide frequency range. Sharp and clear even at the highest volume. Very loud speakers too.. I was testing a lot of different music on them. Hip Hop, Metal, Jazz. All sounded great.
