We have livestock guardian dogs who do what LGDs are supposed to do -- they guard our livestock. But not by attacking anything that threatens. They guard by barking. At anything that might be a threat to our goats and chickens. So, all night long, they bark -- at crickets, and possums, and armadillos, and moles, and bats, and owls, and anything else that might creep in the dark. It's been MONTHS since we've had an uninterrupted night's sleep. We had taken to turning on the fan, but that sucks in the humid, Florida air, which is not a good solution. So, we decided to try this gadget. WOW. What a difference the Big Red Rooster BRRC107 Sound Machine makes. It produces 6 different sounds: rain, brook, ocean, thunder, white noise, summer night. TBH, we're not crazy about the water-based sounds. (Well, I'm not. They make me want to get up to pee.) But the "summer night" sound, with crickets, is perfect for masking the barking LGDs and letting us get some rest. The "white noise" sound is a lot like TV static, and I'm not crazy about that, either, but that's okay, because now I have CRICKETS and not barking dogs. This device is very lightweight. It would be perfect for traveling -- and if you've ever been in a hotel these days, you know NO ONE is polite anymore about coming in at 11pm, with doors banging and kids running up and down the halls. So, yeah. Worth every penny.

I’ve been using this sound machine for a little over a week and it’s been great. Small enough to not crowd our small night stand and delivers a nice white noise, which is all I needed it for. I haven’t spent much time listening to the other sounds so I can’t speak to noticing repetitive loops. Hopefully, it’ll hold up to nightly use and the price was very attractive compared to the other expensive units. I mean, it’s just noise, right? $45-50 seems a bit ridiculous to me for some of these other units.

BEST SOUND MACHINE . . . EVER

This is the BEST SOUND MACHINE . . . EVER! I've purchased numerous sound machines over the years all claiming to produce natural sounding noise. Liars !! My Big Red Rooster Sound Machine is the "real deal." The sounds are so lifeline that it's almost spooky. If you close your eyes, you'll swear you were drifting along on the tide at the beach, or relaxing in a hammock during a summer shower. The sounds do a superb job of masking unwanted noise. Here's to a fantastic product.

Coverup the noise

I love this. It’s perfect size and look. Don’t laugh...I have this in my powder room which has an awful echo making private bathroom activities not so private. I needed something to drown out the ‘sounds’. I love that this white noise maker is battery operated, has great audio quality, and even has a timer! I love the brook sound the best!

UPDATED REVIEW FROM 1 to 5 STARS!!

Loved the idea of it - all 6 of the sounds, options for 15/30/60 minute timer, etc., but when I inserted the batteries it wouldn't even turn on. It works great when plugged in but I can't see keeping something that isn't fully working right. Super disappointed!! UPDATE 4/9/17 - I contacted the seller and they immediately sent a response and rushed shipped a replacement. The replacement is working perfectly and I now fully love it! Highly recommend as I love the product AND the service. We also purchased their portable monkey shaped sound machine for on the go, and that has been great from the beginning. We love that one so much we bought a second one to keep our daughter's crib at daycare. Great products and service!!

Very Clear Sound

This machine is amazing. I bought several sound machines for my house when my child was born in order to soothe him. They were at least twice the price of this one. After using them for a while I got sick of crackly sound that they were producing and decided to replace one of them with something different. I chose Big Red Rooster machine because it had great reviews and I also liked the way it looked. I was definitely a little skeptical because it wasn't a brand name and the price point was a little low. However, I figured the brand name ones I have were horrible so it couldn't be much worse. Not only Big Red Rooster is better, it is actually an outstanding machine. Very compact and the sound is amazingly clear, no crackling. I could honestly compare it to my Bose speaker sound quality. So if you are thinking about ordering it-do it. Worst case it can be returned but I doubt it would come to that.

Pleasant dreams, Dixie!!

Love this sound machine!! It was bought for a puppy who routinely awakened at 4am "screaming!" Since she started using her sound machine she now sleeps to 6am and awakens pleasantly! Best purchase ever (for the entire household)! The 6 different sounds are crisp and clear and very much authentic. Dixie prefers the bubbling brook sound! :). Great product! Small enough to be portable yet loud enough to get the job done. This machine offers several optional timers, and comes equipped for batterie operation and an AC adapter! Totally recommend this sound machine! :))

It blocks outside noises and the sounds are comforting to help you fall asleep.

This sound machine has helped my husband fall right to sleep. We live close to railroad tracks which lead to a flour mill. The trains stop and idle right behind our house while loading and unloading. The engine rumbling is not conducive to a good nights sleep. The sound machine has six different sounds to lull you to sleep and it is really helping him to fall asleep and to stay asleep. It has a timer to shut the sounds off, but he keeps it on all night. If he wakes, it helps him go right back to sleep. It is also good looking, and just the right size. I highly recommend this sound machine.

Like it a lot

I like it....wife loves the crickets sound, that is pretty much the "GO TO" I like the waves, and the thunder is cool! definitely worth the cash if you have a need for noise.

very pleasing sounds

I ordered two of these, one for my husband and me, and one for our son. While we haven't used them much as yet, we did try them out and are happy with the sounds. Since we have several neighbors in the are who insist on playing loud (and I mean loud) music even until 3 or 4 a.m. at times, we definitely can use these when they decide to rev up their speakers. So far, calling the sheriff's office about the racket has resulted in the offensive neighbors resorting to blasting away for a while, then turning the sound down for a while, and blasting it again. Therefore, we looked into "white noise" machines, and chose this one. Thus far, we're glad we did, as listening to loud rain or ocean waves will really be preferable to that awful base noise that only tends to make me angry.
