- WELL COATED AND DUST FREE: The only thing worse than chalk breaking in half is getting dust all over your hands and clothes when writing on the board or drawing on the sidewalk. All Hagoromo chalks are well coated to prevent hands from coming into contact with chalk dust when using. Never have to worry about stained, dusty hands when using chalk ever again
- VIBRANT AND CONCENTRATED: All chalks are highly concentrated in color, are vibrant and have bright color payoff. Great visibility makes it perfect for use in large classrooms or lecture halls. Marks smoothly, creating clear and distinct lines on chalkboards and sidewalks
- NO MISTAKES: Our chalks erase easily leaving little to no residue on the chalkboard when removed. Chalk can be easily washed from most articles of clothing without leaving any unwanted permanent marks. Chalk generates little dust and fallout minimizing chances of smudging and messes when writing or drawing
- ECONOMICAL USE: Unlike other chalkboard or sidewalk chalks, Hagoromo chalk is highly dense meaning that their shelf life is longer as it is consumed very slowly due to compression molding, drying system, and special thermal treatments. There is no need to use a lot of chalk to generate vibrant and colorful art, a little goes a long way!
- NON-TOXIC AND ECO-FRIENDLY: Made from high quality natural calcium carbonate, this product is non-toxic and safe for kids and professional use. Every single Hagoromo chalk is packaged and inserted in foam slots one by one to avoid breakage.

OK -- I won't insist that we change our chalkboards to whiteboards
I just taught my first calculus class using Hagoromo chalk and it was a dream. I don't have the experience to compare the Korean product to the Japanese product (sadly), but bottom line -- it is an experience far superior to using the institution-provided Crayola chalk, which I break all the time and which is scratchy. This chalk is softer so I can use a lighter touch and get the same boldness. I used about one-sixth of a piece for a class, so assuming I throw away the last sixth of each piece I'd conservatively get about 360 classes out of a box of 72. I used to be adamant about converting our building's chalkboards to whiteboards because I hated using chalk, but now with Hagoromo -- I'm finally OK with using chalk every day.

#1 Chalk ... used by advanced physicists the world over
Dry-wipe boards stink (literally). The feel and look of this chalk on a good chalkboard is unmatched. Smooth drawing is guaranteed. This will be the best chalk you ever used.

Best chalk I've ever used.
Feels sturdy, writes smooth, erases well. As far as chalk goes, it is a pleasure to use. I know, it's hard for some people to understand what can be so special about a brand of chalk, but after using so much of that cheap chalk that is weighs almost nothing, breaks all the time, and doesn't want to erase you really can appreciate how nice this chalk is to use. If you are going through the effort of reading chalk reviews, then I suspect you will know what I am talking about and I would HIGHLY recommend trying out this chalk.

Exactly what a mathematician needs
Pros: This is exactly what a mathematician needs. Cons: I am so used to using the Hagoromo chalk, that I could not use any other kind of chalk anymore...

Maybe not the Rolls Royce of chalk but still, like, a really dope Lexus.
This is excellent chalk. If you, like me, hate the squeaks and cracks of Prang and Crayola then splurge a little. I've used Hagoromo chalk for many years. I was told that the company shut down and stopped producing new chalk. For a while the price had skyrocketed but this was closer to the old price. I don't know if they changed their minds or if they sold the name to another company or if there's another explanation. I can say that this chalk is at least a good approximation of what I'd used for years. It is noticeably different and, in my opinion, markedly worse but it's still excellent chalk. Also, for what it's worth, my box didn't have any broken pieces.

Prime your chalkboard if the chalk isn't wiping clean.
I've been using Prang (blue box) for 14 years and thought it was great. Erased well, but broke frequently. Heard about Hagoromo chalk and wanted to give it a try. At first it wouldn't erase properly, but then I remembered to prime the board. That did the trick and the chalk works beautifully. Less breakage, writes smooth and erases clean.

This is a teacher's treat. Buy some for a teacher you love.
I would never have believed that there was so much difference in chalk. This chalk is such a pleasure to write with - no screeching, no breakage or chipping, far less chalk dust than the brands the school buys. I have both white boards and chalk boards in my classroom, and this was an impulse buy, but after trying it, it will be something I treat myself to as time goes by. All the pieces arrived unbroken and the packaging protection was phenomenal. This erases soooooo much cleaner than Crayola and Prang. I have read that this is a new formulation and that the old was better - I don't know how. This stuff glides across a chalkboard like butter across a warm pan. I am going to hoard this for myself and make the kids write with the not-as-nice chalk. I decided to try the colored chalk as well, and it also is of much higher quality. It is far more pigmented, erases without ghosting, and delivers a clean, colorful line.

It's back!
I'm so happy to see this available again after hearing that Hagoromo had shut down in Japan. I've used the original for a couple of years and loved it (see my review at Hagoromo Fulltouch Chalk Assorted Colors 12pcs), so I was pretty excited to see that another company bought the equipment and is making it again. I just got this box yesterday, and it seems to be of exactly the same quality as the made-in-Japan version. I didn't have any broken pieces, but they could have used a little more packing material to keep the box of chalk from sliding around in the packing box. And it arrived just in time for the semester to begin! I'm a pretty happy mathematician right now.

Best Chalk I've Used!
I never did get to use the original Japanese product, however, when I saw Korea was producing this item, I jumped on it. I am so glad I did! It writes smoothly, doesn't leave the residue on my fingers, feels more robust than normal chalk, and erases cleanly. My colleagues began remarking on this new "miracle chalk" when I'd leave used ones behind in the classroom. Now they're discussing purchasing cases for the department as a whole. I've enjoyed using it so much that I even bought a case of the colored chalk, although I haven't had a chance to use it, yet. I write a lot for my classes, and I would estimate I use half of a stick per fifty-minute class, equating to approximately 144 classes per case. I now understand why everyone was hoarding the original.

Worth every penny
This is really good chalk; it's definitely worth the money. You should know, however, that you get 24 pieces of red and 12 of the others. In my opinion, red is the worst of the five because it's not very bright on the board. I've used Hagoromo chalk for many years. I was told that the company shut down and stopped producing new chalk. For a while the price had skyrocketed but this was closer to the old price. I don't know if they changed their minds or if they sold the name to another company or if there's another explanation. I can say that this chalk is at least a very good approximation of what I'd used for years. Also, for what it's worth, my box didn't have any broken pieces.
