We bought this to use with our stand up chest style freezer which we wanted to covert to a beer/wine fridge. This device works great at keeping our beer the perfect temp, which really in this case is nice and cold and not frozen. We use it outside too, in a covered area and have not had any issues with humidity or what not to it's functionality. Not sure what the manufacturer recommends though, best you follow that. **UPDATED 2/2019** Stopped functioning properly after less than a year. Reading temps at 20 degrees higher than actual. Everything froze over, beers exploded. Total mess. Not impressed.

Excellent product. I use it to control a heater in a small greenhouse.

Once it is programmed, it holds the temps exactly in the set range (verified with a quality thermometer in the fridge). Works great, and is super value priced. I haven't used the heat function, but based on how the cold works, I can't see why it wouldn't perform just as well (since it is just switching outlets off and on based on a temp).

This is the ultimate thermostat controller I’ve ever purchased! It has both heating and cooling features working simultaneously to ensure constant temperature range (you have to get an efficient heating and cooling appliance to utilize this feature of course). Can either be set to read in Fahrenheit or Centigrade, constantly displays both real-time and desired-set temperatures, has both high and low alarms (you can set your preferred temperature settings), delay activation functions can also be set on both F’ or C’ by configuring temperature difference fro set temperature. Leaflet manual included is also very easy to follow. All in all, a great product, it’s quality!

First, it was delivered very promptly, 2-3 days. I am truly amazed at the versatility of this device. I have used 2 Ranco controllers over the last 15 years and Ranco being a true reliable classic, the advantages of the Inkbird over Ranco are huge! The experience begins with a few moments of frustration as the Inkbird programming for so many functions is a bit loopy, but if you read the instructions carefully you will do okay .The Inkbird is fully wired and ready to go at half the price for a Ranco, make this a quarter of the price if you require both cooling and heating simultaneously, which Inkbird can perform, whereas you will need 2 Ranco units to do this. Inkbird can be set to one tenth of a degree, Ranco to one degree. Not a big deal in practice but the precision is there if you want it. Same for the calibration function, if the sensor is a bit off and you have an accurate thermometer to compare it to you can program a correction with a tenth of a degree accuracy. If you set the parameters very tight, say within a tenth of a degree, you will want to program the compressor delay function to protect your freezer or refrigerator. And did I mention the high/low alarm you can program for excessive high/low temperature. Now, as I mentioned, the Ranco controllers performed faithfully for 15 years before they died. Will the Inkbird last this long? I sincerely hope to be able to update this review 15 years from now. I would like to issue a correction to the above. The temperature can be set at whole degrees only, the actual temperature displays within a tenth of a degree. This makes the compressor delay function somewhat redundant.

I have an outside wood stove and run a hot water loop into my garage for "free heat". Leaving the fan running on the radiator in the garage was a waste of energy, plus I think it took the water temp down too far when the coals died down, etc. I gave the 4 on the "Easy to use" because based on the directions and my lack of understanding of them, I couldn't get it to function the way I needed it to work. Reading the reviews on Amazon...I wrote a note to the company, explaining what I was attempting to do. Within 24 hours I got a detailed response that allowed me to make it work immediately. Had they not been SO helpful...I'd have been VERY frustrated. All's well that ends well! It woked perfectly all winter long! I would recommend this unit!

This little guy has been running our space heater and a small AC unit just fine the last few months. It's pretty darn accurate so far - we've kept a thermometer next to it's sensor, and it's only 0.2Β° off at it's worst, but usually 0.0Β° off. As long as you don't want to reprogram it, it's an easy-ish setup using the included cheat sheet for what the symbols mean. If you'll be needing to reprogram it regularly and cant memorize a bunch of code names for values, then you better not loose the cheat sheet explaining how to reprogram it. It's my only gripe, but considering how accurately it manages the temperature and that it has a programmable swing value, I'll give the difficulty in programming it without having the sheet on you a pass.

I bought this for a planed tank I keep in my small, un-air conditioned cottage heated by a wood stove in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Summer temps swing wildly during the day, often a 40ΒΊF differential between highs and lows, and indoor ambient temps experience a similar, but less dramatic swing. This obviously wreaked havoc on my planted Fluval Spec V. I lost my entire RCS population as well as two african dwarf frogs, several plants began to melt and otherwise showed signs of stress. Enter this temperature controller, paired with this fan: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L54ZYAQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Temps became far more manageable, instead of a 10ΒΊF swing, I was only seeing about 3 with only evaporation being an issue, and that I can live with. Fast forward to the colder months, and I can keep the temperature completely stable. This unit is easy to program, accurately measures temperature (I run a redundant thermometer), works as described, and the display is easy to read across the room. As I build a lager display tank for a public building in my town, I will be sure to incorporate this excellent piece of kit.

It's a little confusing at first, but it doesn't take much to catch on (esp with reading the manual)--a lot easier than the nightmare that I went through trying to set a thermocontroller (making natto) a few years back. Very glad things have moved along and we've gotten to this point (in terms of available products). I could easily imagine having gotten this and finding it to be a cheap product, but this is NOT a cheap feeling product. It seems to be of quality.

Showed up promptly, and put it to the test immediately. Has been working for about a month without issues. Getting this device connected up to and operating with a top loaded freezer has made my keeping beer at 38 degees (I have three sensors total, surface of container, in fluid as real referenced, and ambient air) absolutely perfect. Air temp in freezer goes from 42 to 32, surface temp of stainless container (taped with electrical) goes from 37-39, and the fluid temp (reference water in container) never goes outside of 38 degs F. (all degs in F). Turns on and off the freezer unit absolutely as advertised. Highly recommended.
