Twice the brightness of my old school florescent aquarium hood setup, and a much cleaner light. Slim LED light is much more modern than old school 1990s aquarium hood. Wish I would have made the upgrade earlier, what a difference !! Build quality is excellent, simple and easy to use on/off/night switch, no fancy overkill remotes. Transformer is plug in, so it can be easily replaced if it ever fails. Power use as measured with kill-a-watt, 48" version: On: 23.5 watts Off: 0.3 watts Night 5.5 watts. Old florescent fixtures were 19w each, 38w total.

This is a review of the 20-27" model (so I guess the medium sized one). Also note this is an initial impression review. As I just received this item and installed it on my tank, I do not yet have any long term experience with it. And also, I run my tank lights off timers, so I have set the light to fully on and let the timer turn it off/on each day and so don't use the "blue LEDs only" option. But this light does work fine off a standard light timer (one of those mechanically operated ones with the round face the slowly rotates and you put the little plastic pieces in at the times you want on or off) LED Aquarium Hood Lighting Fish Tank Light for Freshwater and Saltwater, Blue and White Light My standard 10 gallon tank's hood finally crapped out on me. It was your standard 15W, 18" T-8 fluorescent light hood which served me well for over 20 years. But now was an opportunity to upgrade. I do grow easy low light plants in my tanks so I wanted to upgrade to LEDs but also needed to make sure the light was at least equal in brightness to a standard 15W T-8, which is roughly 800 lumens. This light is noticeably brighter with a very natural sunlight look (I was worried it would be too blue looking but it isn't). I tend to buy 5000K lamps and find ones upwards of 6500L+ to be much too blue for my liking. This hood appears very much in the 5000K to 6000K region I prefer so very happy there. A standard 10 gallon is about 20 inches long, so one might think the smaller version, the 11-19" model is just right. And if you don't group any live plants that model is probably going to be perfect for most people. But if you have any ideas of growing any sort of live plants, then I would strongly suggest the 20-27" model is the way to go. It fits a standard 10-gallon tank perfectly, stretching across the entire length and still a enough room on each side for the legs to sit on the tank edges. This particular tanks is neither heated (I keep common guppies in it which do well in cool tanks) nor does it house any fish known to be jumpers. So with this new light I opted to remove the entire hood and am running the light over open water (I have a 30 gallon I have run this way for years without issue). However if you have a full hood with the removable light strip on it (fairly standard), you can use this light with the hood. You just position it over the glass strip where the old strip light used to sit. It does sit a few inches over the glass so I think too much light is lost to the room rather than directed down, but it will work fine if you need to keep heat or jumpers in the tank. Attached photos are to show 1) how well the light fits over a standard 10-gallon (using no glass or hood), 2) How nice the light looks in my planted tank (yes the java moss needs to be thinned out a LOT) 3) how the feet of this light sit on the plastic trim piece of a standard glass aquarium, and 4) how high above the water/hood/glass the light will sit. One thing to keep in mind is that if you use this over a glass top, a lot of light is likely to be reflected up into the room making for a brighter room that just what a lit tank would normally add.

I bought a used 55 gal aquarium and it didn't come with a hood. It did have a mesh lid though. I bought two of these lights - one for each end. I straddled them across front to back. I actually like this a lot better than a hood light because I can slide them back and forth where I want them...this lets me focus in on one area of the tank if I like. There are also the blue lights, so at night, I leave only one light on at the blue setting and it is very cool looking. My cats love it!!

I now own 2 of these lights and I love them. They are so much nicer than the florescent lights that came with my tanks. The 28 - 36 inch fits perfectly on my 36g bow front, and the 20 - 27 inch is perfect for one side of my 55g turtle tank. I plan to upgrade all of my aquariums to this light. Definitely would recommend.

For the price you will not find a better light on the market. This light does a great job and grows plants in a rapid rate. All my plants doubled in size in a month as shown in the pictures. It's not too bright and not too dim. It's perfect for growing moderate care plants

This light is amazing, especially for the price. The brightness is just enough for my plants to grow, but not too bright to the point where I would have to buy a light stand to raise it. The light is basically fully plastic other than the adjustable stands and the finish is completely black, which in my opinion, looks really good. The light has two options, the night switch for the blue LEDs and the regular LED switch with both white and blue LEDs on at the same time. The light itself is a little over 4 inches in width which is much wider than my Finnex Fugeray but that shouldn't be an issue for most people. I have a planted 10 gallon that is 20 inches in length and a planted 7 gallon that's 24 inches in length and this light fits perfectly. Note: For most of you who have fish tanks that are 20 inches in length, please do not buy the 11-19" version because the LED light will be too small and short. I got the 20-27" and it fits on both my fish tanks.

I wanted to add a review for the timer since it was bundled on this product page: I had used $5 timers with $6 dimmers for a while (cheapest I could find). Then I moved up to the Current USA Single Ramp Timers, which are twice the price of these and only have one "On" period. So I was very happy to find that NICREW had released some new timers at half the price of the ones I normally use. The instructions were pretty good, but they leave out that the timer will start the next programmed section if using the "Sunrise and Sunset" mode. I programmed everything around 4pm so that the lights should have been on at 25% from noon to 5pm (L2). But when I saved my programming, the lights did not turn on until it hit my next programming section (L3) at 5pm. It's not an issue now that I understand it, but I thought it was broken at first. I really like that I can get a 24-hour effect with the timer. While it doesn't let me control the colors of the light, it does let me run the light at different brightness levels throughout the day. So I can have the light turn on fairly dim in the morning to let me feed fish before going to work. Then I can have it off during the day until I get back home and it can turn on to max brightness then. The ramp timer also seems to help the fish and shrimp a lot, especially newer ones. When the light suddenly turned on in the past, some of my fish or shrimp would be frightened and dart everywhere or even jump out of the tank. It was sad to lose a few fish and shrimp to that. Once I actually witnessed it, I've decided to only use ramp timers on all of my lights. Overall, a very nice timer for a very nice price! ==================== Overall, this LED light gives new fish tank owners the best bang for the buck. The competing LED lights are all much more expensive and this LED light fits my tank great with its adjustable brackets that just rest on top of the fish tank cover. Mine is sitting comfortably on top of my Aqueon Versa glass lid and Aqueon 20g long tank. I have been using this product on my fish tank for almost a month and it has been great! It illuminates my 20g long fish tank entirely and perfectly. I actually thought the tank had constant algae blooms before I got this light. But once I was able to light up the fish tank, I could tell that it was actually just the colors of surrounding objects causing the water in the clear tank to seem green. In addition, my 5 plants (anubias nana, dwarf lily, temple plant, rosette sword, & java fern) have been prospering under this LED light in my low-tech tank as well. My dwarf lily actually grew 5 lily pads to the surface of my tank over the course of 2 weeks! To be fair, all of those plants are low to medium light. Also, the customer service is amazing! I contacted them about the cost for a power adapter replacement for a light that was not under warranty and they responded within one day and are shipping me a free one! The only thing I would change about this LED light is making it so the brackets do not slide out of the light. However, I would gladly settle for a lower price rather than that minor inconvenience that I only ran into while taking it out of its package.

Using on 37 gal cube. White light shows true color for everything in the tank. It is a little bright, but fish hide beneath plants during naptime. Having said that, this light will have no problem penetrating to the bottom of a deep tank. It is sturdy, but should not be used over open tank. The brackets provided extend as advertised and can attach solidly to the rim or sit on the top without bowing. Plants seem to be doing okay. Too early to tell what their growth rate will be, but so far I'm encouraged. Switch has 3 settings. Day/off/night. In order to use the night blue light(moonlight) setting you must flip the switch manually. It turns everything blue. To me, it doesn't resemble moonlight and it isn't worth the trouble to switch on/off. Some people do like it, It just isn't for me. I'd rather plug it into a timer and forget about it. For the price, you can't expect any frills like dimmer/timer/internal switch. It's a solid LED light for your aquarium and you can't beat the price if you're looking for this type of light.

This small light is surprisingly powerful. I did not expect it to work as well as it did, despite the other reviews. Prior to using this, my plants did OK, but growth was slow and almost non-existent. In addition, certain plants would immediately melt within days of being placed in my tank. I have a 10 gallon tank and I use Eco-Complete substrate. It is stocked with one betta. Since installing the lights, my Amazon swords, Anubias, and Ludwiga Repens have quickly grown thick and lush. In addition, a beautiful carpet of bright green algea has coated my mopani wood at the highest points. I am in awe of what this light has done for my tank. Now with the plants so brightly colored and lush the tank now appears to have been professionally aquascaped. This light really does a nice job.

This is a gorgeous light for my aquarium. It is not as long as I had hoped, but in the end it lights up my large aquarium very well, much better than the previous light which was a gro-light fluorescent hood. The light is bright and cheerful, and the plants love it. The blue leds are nice at night, but I usually turn it off. I would definitely buy again. My tank is oddly shaped with a bow front, maybe 40 gallons. And yes, you can see there are way too many fish in there, they keep having babies.
