Dont buy it.

I originally gave this product a 1 star rating because it simply didn't held enough temperature to cook. I wen outside of our appartment complex and got a bunch of rocks. Just regular rocks. Placed them below the heating element and wow. 450 degrees easily! I guess plan to get some rocks if you are buying this grill.

Wow. What a fantastic grill! I use it on my apartment balcony where flames are forbidden. Very little smoke is produced. Fat drippings are neatly collected in a tray. It makes the best grilled bacon I've ever had.

SO... As far as electric grills go, this is the best one I've had. I've owned two previously. InfraRed a gimmic? Who knows. I will tell you that I made beef ribs the day it arrived and they came out super good. Took me about an hour to put together. But by the time I was done I couldnt wait to trow my ribs in there. I will attach pictures so can get an idea of how big this is. I was pleasantly surprised to see how big it was. Never will be as big or fast as a gas grill. But I gotta tell you, if electric grills are you're only option, this is the one to get. Char broil is definitely a good company and know what they are making. I'm about to make some baby back ribs and cant wait to see the results. Buy it, you will not regret it.

Excellent small electric grill.

For one or two people in a smaller space, this is an excellent compromise grill. The only real down sides are that it does take longer to warm up than a gas grill, and every time the cover is opened, a lot of cooking temperature is lost. Cooking for two, when you can minimize the open time, it is very, very convenient. The porcelain cooking surface is extremely easy to clean. Within its limitations, I can recommend it highly.

I am stupid. This grill is not.

I bought this when there were no reviews on Amazon and figured it would be the same as the other El Patio grills from Charbroil. Unfortunately I fried the element when I plugged it in to a 240v source. D'oh. Then I ordered the wrong element. DOUBLE D'OH Charbroil's website is severely lacking on info and parts on this new grill. I rang their call centre and it turns out the sticker on the grill lists the INCORRECT element number as 29104990. Correct replacement element is #55711039. They need to fix this ASAP. Having said that...finally sorted...this is a kick arse grill and this is coming from an aussie guy who sold a much loved Weber Q LPG bbq ( damned building owners ! ) and was sceptical about Electric grills. Assembly was relatively easy. A few beers and a few swear words and 30 minutes. The unit is wonderfully made and looks awesome. Why is Amazon not selling the other colours !? The shelves are a great bonus as is the extra warming rack. The one thing that really lets this unit down is the grease tray design. They should redesign it so it slides into grooves like the Weber Q tray. instead the tray has to "grab" the guide rails which means you have to faff around sometimes lining it up. Other than that, I cannot really fault this grill. It is virtually impossible to burn meat with a nice even, slow ( but not too slow ) cook. Chicken comes out especially amazing. Juicy and succulent. With a powerpoint and some spices and marinated chicken, you basically have a portable business ! HOWEVER There is no way this unit can reach the max temps on the gauge. After an hour of wait/test mine only got to 375f/ 200c. Still enough to slow roast so I am not really complaining. Due to its deeply slanted ribs, the grill plate is not as easy to clean with my grill brush ( see above ) as the cast iron grill plate on the Weber Q. I may possibly need to get a narrower brush. BUT Honestly.....the quality if the meat that comes out is well worth it. I cam going to play around with using a container filled with herb infused water to see if i can get extra taste and moisture into the meat just for fun !

Good while it lasted. - Update!!!

This was a great little patio grill. Living in a condo, electric is my only option. It cooked all foods great & I used it a lot, but it didn't even last a year! So, 2 stars for good while it lasted. So....as it turns out, this baby is still going!! A little electrical trouble that was remedied & we are BACK IN BUSINESS!! So happy! While others said it didn't get hot enough, mine consistently reached 400-500 when required. Maybe because I live in the South & it's just hot outside! :) I've cooked everything from vegetables, shrimp, pork chops, steak & of course the obligatory chicken breast. It cooks evenly & succulently. Highly recommend.

Wonderful purchase!

Wonderful grill!!! We live in a condo with a large balcony where is forbidden to have a grill. After asking everywhere we knew that only electric grills are allowed! We ordered the Char Broil TRU and it was a blessing! No more smoke around the condo, no more grease to clean...After using it several times for a month my husband and I just love it!!! I very much recommend this grill!!!

Love this thing

Great product. Only have had it a few days. Soild build, I was surprised by the quality. Takes a while to assemble, though I had a buzz and it was 11pm..lol. Cooked chicken breast on it so far, cooks perfect leaving food moist. Not sure everyone has an issue with the 360 degree temp? I haven't put a laser temp gauge on it but the grill got to temperature in about 10min, I butterflied the breast and it cooked thru in 6 min probably. Grill area cooks evenly, I got 7 butterflied chicken breasts on the grill surface. The recommended grill brush to go with it doesn't work well, maybe seasoning (oiling) the grate will help. I had one problem, I put the cover on while it was till plugged in, woke up in the morning and the cover was glued to the lid. The temp knob turns on very easily and the cover must have caught on it and turned the grill on :-). So unplug before covering kids......do as I say not as I do. I live in a condo so this really helps, since cooking inside smells up the place and leaves residue.

my patio jewel!!

I love it! for one or 2 people it does the job and very practical. I don't like gas grills since they scare me as I already had a bad experience it almost blowing off my face... I had a bbq for 18 people 2 weeks ago and I was able to cook burgers and hot dogs for all guest as well as grilling pre-cooked chicken and ribs. very easy to clean and small enough to fit covered on a corner in my patio. received many compliments on my new cute grill!!
