Awesome LED lights.
These are perfect for what I needed! I have an older house that wasn't specifically wired for a garage door opener, so the garage door opener is plugged into a light socket with an adapter. This meant that the only way to get light in the garage was to either turn off the light socket and turn it back on, or use the light button on the garage door opener. Both of which caused problems. I have roommates that enter through the garage all the time and end up turning off the garage door opener because that's the only way to turn off the light. Then when I get home, I can't open the garage because there is no power. My solution was to install a couple of these in the garage, and viola! I have light that turns on when I need it and off when I don't. If I need light that is on longer, I can still use the light on the garage door opener until I can wire it on it's own circuit. Any my roommates can still come and go and see in the garage! They are on about a 12 foot ceiling, and the light comes on as soon as the door opens. I also love that these are LED and should last a long time!

This is a wonderful alternative for a ceiling light without the drilling, wiring, and installing a proper light fixture!
This is a wonderful alternative for a ceiling light without drilling, wiring, and installing a proper light fixture! It is definitely bright enough to light any area you'd want illuminated. Almost too bright; it might've benefited from a type of setting in terms of "dimability" or intensity. But, in any case, it will definitely provide at least enough light. The motion sensing is a neat factor as well as a sleep function, but if you aren't using it solely as a closet or a counter-type light – I meant to use this as a ceiling light to illuminate a dark corner during a party – it may be hit or miss in terms of keeping lit due to movement by people who are sitting eating and/or having a conversation under it. And if you plan on storing it when not in use, it is rather unnerving to have it full-on lit as you put it away because it takes 5+ minutes for the sleep function/no motion sensor to activate and turn the light off. Taking it apart was rather counter-intuitive. Under the unit, you have to shift and rotate a circular plate that doesn't feel & displace as if it should. Only after enough (more than you would initially estimate) force does it dislodge. Then there is an out-of-place screw (you can both unscrew with a driver and/or your own fingertips) that apparently holds the rest of the unit together, but it is still difficult to understand how. After all of this, you will find 4 slots for big D batteries for this to work. It is unfortunate, but maybe understandable, that the batteries are not included – even though, usually, items with specialized batteries usually include them. The only con I can think of adding is that, the lights, plus the big heavy D batteries (another annoyance to have to purchase separately to make this work), and the rest of the unit, all add onto weight that is considerably heavy! The makers advertise this as a ceiling light, but if you aren't to screw it (like I wanted to avoid), it actually takes a lot to affix it to the ceiling! Velcro for certain will not work, and you would have to get some of the heavy-duty "putty" Command or 3M material that is ensured to be able to hold what seems to be 17+ lbs.! All-in-all though, I think this is a very capable ceiling lamp that offers a great alternative to a professional ceiling wiring and installation. It offers more than enough light, but it's weight and lack of clear intuitive instructions and build may cause some difficulties and further ingenuity to make it succeed. But, at least for me, all of these caveats don't deter me from rating it a full 5 stars!

White, bright light!!!
These are GREAT. Saw them on HSN, but a better price on Amazon. They are heavy so you really must use the screws...Don't try velcro, you'll be sorry. My husband had them both up in 12 minutes. Put one in a small closet that drove me nuts with no light and the other over a printer in an enclosed cabinet...same problem...no light. Now, the second I walk in the closet or open the door for the printer...boom, instant bright light...This is a definite buy.

Great shed lights
Installed 2 of these in my 10x12 shed and mounted them on a 2x4's placed between the rafters. I went ahead and removed the black rectangular jumper so these would function in ambient light. If you don't do that, and install them in a shed like I did, the lights will come on, go off, and then not come back on because of the light coming in from the shed's open door. (hope that makes sense). Initially I purchased just one but then after installing that one realized I needed two. As you can see in the pictures, two lights are much better than one.

Great light for a large closet. Easy to install and bright! Photos included.
Installation: This light was easy to install. I chose to use 4 self-drilling zinc drywall anchors to install the mounting bracket rather than the 4 plastic anchors that came with Mr. Beams. This is perhaps overkill, but I intend for this to be a long-term installation. Here are the anchors I used: #1 Best Quality Zinc Self Drilling Drywall Anchors with Screws Kit, 100 Pieces All Together. With a power drill, I drilled the anchors in, then screwed the screws through the mounting plate into the anchors (I used the screws that came with the self-drilling zinc anchors, not the thinner screws that came with Mr. Beams). Batteries: I use rechargeable batteries wherever possible. Rechargeable D cell batteries are unfortunately not cheap. Your options are NiCD or NiMH. NiCD cost less than NiMH but you will be better served using low self-discharge NiMH batteries in this light. Why? 1) They have greater capacity, and I want to minimize how often I have to recharge/change batteries. 2) NiMH is a newer technology and does not have the "memory effect" that plagues NiCD. 3) They can be recharged 500+ times, sometimes 1000+. Here is the set of batteries I bought (these were the best price at the time of my purchase for what appears to be a quality 10,000 mAh NiMH battery): M2cpower® 4 Pack D Size D Cell 10,000mah High Capacity High Rate NiMH Rechargeable Batteries. I recharge my batteries using an EBL-906 charger: EBL Universal Battery Charger for AA AAA C D 9V Ni-MH Ni-CD Rechargeable Batteries with LCD Display and Discharge Functions. Features of the light: Going back to the light itself -- it is very helpful that there is a jumper that you can detach (it is located in the battery compartment and can be removed and re-attached easily with your fingers) to disable the photocell. Here's what that means... if the jumper is attached, the light will come on if two conditions are met: 1) the motion sensor senses motion; 2) the photocell decides that the room is "dark enough" that your Mr. Beams light should come on. Now, if you detach the jumper, the light will come on if only the first of those two conditions is met. The room could be bright as day and if Mr. Beams senses motion, he will turn on. The light diffuses well in all directions as can be seen in the photos. This is a plus, as LEDs by nature are directional lights, therefore Mr. Beams was clearly designed with a diffuser to spread the light in a wide cone. I would recommend this light. I have included several photos show my installation under various scenarios. 1) Room is dark, only Mr. Beams is on. 2) Mr. Beams is on, and so is the light in the bedroom. 3) The light in the bedroom is on, and Mr. Beams is off. 4) A close-up of Mr. Beams mounted on the sloped ceiling in my closet. Best of luck finding the right light for your needs.

The Secret to Mounting These in Plastic Sheds
Small plastic sheds. So many of us have them. Mine is an 8' x 8' Lifetime brand shed that I use for gardening stuff. While the days are still short in late winter I am in and out of this shed constantly getting seedling trays, bags of potting soil mix, etc as I start my flower and vegetable flats indoors for the coming season. But going out there anytime after 5:00 pm meant either dim or no light at all. I needed overhead lighting. But how do you mount these lights when the only thing overhead is a metal roof truss? Zip ties. (Gasp!) Yep. They work perfectly. (See the pictures with this review.) I was able to easily attach the base plate of these lights using a 12" zip tie to each overhead truss. Then I simply attached and locked the main light housing onto the base plate. It took all of 10 minutes to do both lights. And because these lights only come on when it's dark out my batteries aren't wasted every time I open the shed doors. The 20 second auto-shut off is great EXCEPT when you aren't moving around. I have sat at my potting table in the shed many evenings working with seeds looking like I was afflicted a with precisely-timed arm spasm as I raised my hand every so often to activate a light. So the light isn't completely perfect, but 2 of these in my 8' x 8' space gives me great light.

This is a CEILING light, useful only attached to unobstructed ceilings! I ended up buying the MB970 -- a great light!
I was very disappointed! I wanted to install this in a small closet in our older home. The ceilings are 13' and hard to reach. So, I installed it above the inside of the door. When I open the door nothing happens. I literally have to reach up and wave my hand to get the light to come on. The light stays on for about 30 seconds, then I have to wait for about 20 seconds and wave my hand again and hope the light comes back on. This is literally a CEILING light and useless in any other location. Also, there must be nothing even remotely blocking its limited ability to detect motion. And, as I mentioned, it does not stay on very long at all -- do what you have to do and get out. ONE STAR! UPDATE -- I was contacted by Mr Beams (see their comment). They have very graciously offered to replace the MB990 with an MB970, a brand new model which seems to more closely match my needs. In addition, they have offered to mail the replacement and have me send the MB990 back in that package. They are also going to replace the D-cell batteries used in the MB990 with C-cells used in the MB970. The customer service has been FANTASTIC! I will provide a final update once the process is completed. Up to THREE STARS! UPDATE 2 -- I received the replacement product MB970. It is perfect for my needs. It can be attached to a wall and adjusted to direct the light where you need it. It is easily assembled and attached to the wall. The light is bright and perfect for my closet! Hooray! A FIVE STAR product and FIVE STAR customer service from Mr. Beams!!!!

Perfect Shower Light
I installed this light above my shower and it works perfectly. I removed the light sensor so that it comes on even when there is ambient light present. I also narrowed the motion sensor with a bit of tape so that it only comes on when I open the shower door and while showering. Initially, it would illuminate from any motion in the bathroom and just outside the bathroom door. The light stays on pretty steady while showering, only occasionally turning off. However, it quickly turns back on without needing to do any abnormal motioning. The batteries are still going strong after 2 months of daily use, hopefully they'll only need changing once or twice a year.

These MrBeams solved the solution for us perfectly and easily. We already owned several MrBeams spotlights for the ...
We are building on to our back patio and it’s a step by step process based on timing and funds. We have yet to complete our second patio cover addition, which will bring the power to the patio covers (new and existing will have lights and fans). We wanted to have some sort of light overhead but had no power to run to any fixture. These MrBeams solved the solution for us perfectly and easily. We already owned several MrBeams spotlights for the sides of our house to illuminate at night, so I knew I could count on the LED being bright enough. I bought the 2 pack and installed them in the spots our future ceiling fan/lights will go. As you can see in the pictures of the patio, it is rather dark at 5:30 pm during November. With the 2 lights on in the 20 ft x 12ft area, there’s plenty of light to spare. We can now use our back patio at night for he foreseeable future, until our patio is finished. The lights go up very easy and you can even control the illumination sensor by removing the jumper (if you want lights to come on with any ambient light in reach of the sensor). We have a patio wall sconce that, if on, the overhead light won’t turn on (which is fine).

I Wasn't Holding Out Much Hope
I'm moving into a new/old house and realized that there was not light in the shower. I didn't want to mess with running wires and drilling holes for a can light so I searched Amazon for a "battery powered LED bathroom light." None of the results looked like they would work... Too little light, cheap looking, etc. Then I ran across THIS light. It looked like it was exactly what I was looking for so I took a chance. Lights arrived and to my shock they were awesome! Well made, sturdy, easy to follow instructions and BRIGHT! Super bright! I would say it's equivalent to a 60 watt bulb....maybe a little less. So easy to install and set up. Since it uses 4 D batteries it's a bit heavy but with that much power the light should last a long while. No switch needed since it has light and proximity sensors that are programmable. Here's the best part... You walk in, it lights; you walk out and 20 seconds later it turns off. Great product! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
