Amazing brace for soccer!
Works great for my son who is the goalie for his C1 traveling team. He broke his foot last year and was fresh from returning from that when he rolled it during basketball. Now he is back doing both with confidence due to the ankle brace. Fits great in his soccer cleats which are low cut by design. No issues with reduced mobility. Unfortunately it doesn't fit in his basketball high tops. But that is because he has the newer style "sock" shoe with Velcro "lacing". The "sock" design doesn't allow the top of the shoe to be loosened because it is one solid piece around the circumferene. I am sure if he had lace up high tops it would fit in this just fine. Really happy with the purchase. Buying another for him to support his other ankle from a past sprain and another for myself due to a resent ankle injury. He wears a size 9 shoe and the medium fits great. I will order a large for myself; I wear a size 12 shoe.

Best combo of protection and mobility
I play basketball 2-3 times a week. I have had chronic ankle problems my entire life. I have sprained my ankles dozens of times over the past 30 years. This style of lace up with the straps offers me the best protection while still remaining somewhat mobile. I have tried to use off brand ankle braces and they are not the same quality as these. If you are serious about your ankle protection this is the brace you need. I still manage to roll my ankle about every other time I play basketball and these braces keep the sprain from being worse than it could be. Since I started wearing these full time about 10 years ago I have not missed a single game because of a sprained ankle. Make sure you get the right size. I wear size 11.5 and the Mediums are too small but the Large is perfect.

This brace offers great protection and support for the ankle
I will not play basketball without wearing these. This brace offers great protection and support for the ankle. I suffered a severe ankle sprain playing hoops more than a decade ago. I have been wearing McDavid braces ever since. The lace and figure-8 strap system keeps everything in place but doesn't limit my mobility at all. I'm a smaller guy on the court 5'11", 185 lb guard so I need to move quickly in order to succeed. The braces allow me mobility and most importantly, confidence, to play all out. About once a year I might come down on my ankle, roll it or land awkwardly, but with these braces on I have never suffered any ankle injury of significance. Takes a minute to get on, lace up, strap up, etc. but well worth it. I play 3-4 times/per week and let these braces air-dry after each use. These can be hand-washed but I throw them in the regular washing machine every other week (Do Not put these in the dryer) and they last me a good 8-9 months before they start to fray at the same spot, along the bottom of the foot near the heel.

Comfortable, light and provides compression for healing
LOVE love love this brace. I'm healing from a Grade II sprain that happened 8 weeks ago and this brace works far better than the Aircast I was using. It fits in my sneakers so I can finally get more exercise, and while walking around in my daily life I forget I'm healing from an injury, because this brace is so supportive. I need the compression whenever I'm putting weight on the ankle, because my ligaments are not yet healed - they snap and pop when not wearing the brace, but do NOT while wearing the brace. Great compression without being uncomfortable. A note: I have a very high instep so I need to adjust the laces to be looser at the bottom, otherwise I'd have bruising at the top of my foot like others have experienced. No need to crank the laces over all parts of the foot, do what you need to. Also, straps go on better if you do the left one first, then the right. Highly recommended.

As good or better as the one I was given at the podiatrist
Honestly, I was just looking for the cheapest ankle brace I could find on Amazon. I have recurrent Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction (PTTD) and I needed to replace my old brace. This ankle brace is as good or better as the one I was given at the podiatrist's office. Super structured, laces up the front snugly, velcros around the ankle three different ways, and feels very secure. Great quality. I'll update if it falls apart right away, but at the moment, I'm really happy with this! FYI, I'm a woman and wear a size 7.5-8, and I got the XS.

An ankle brace that does exactly what you would hope
great ankle brace. My ankles got to a point of getting so weak they would sprain every time I played basketball. I been wearing these for 3 months as play basketball 3x a week, two leagues and at least 1 day of pick up and never sprained or rolled my ankle again. Your ankle is completely secured. This product is well designed. The straps are not complicated at all. It creates a tight snug fit so you will have to wrestle it on and off, but I think that speak to the level of how secure they make your ankle. The profile of the brace is not bulky at all. Fits foot like a glove and slips into your shoe with no problem. I highly recommend. I looked at every brand. There is a reason McDavid is a respected ankle brace brand.

My orthopedic was glad I had this
My orthopedic doctor gave me kudos for having this brace, said it was a good one and they recommend it. That's good enough for me. Once I get this boot off for my fracture, he wants me to use this brace to finish the healing process. This brace feels good and secure. I will be wearing it when we go hiking to avoid future sprains.

You get what you pay for...
You won't be disappointed with this one. I've worn another McDavid ankle brace for years, needed a second for another injury. No idea why, but in trying to save some money, I ordered another product with good reviews, had stabilizing straps, etc. What a major disappointment. You get what you pay for. This one is more expensive, but the material is far stronger, the quality of the eyelets and the fasteners as well. It's pretty valuable to be able to closely inspect a couple different products -- what a drastic difference. I'm a larger athlete (6' 2" and 235 lbs), so I'm not trusting my ankles to subpar material. I won't make that mistake again.

Comfort and Support A+
I am 50-years-old, an everyday runner, and over the years, mostly when I was younger, I have sprained my right ankle 4 times; twice playing basketball, and twice running. That being said, I have been running in an ankle brace for 20+ years as I never know when my ankle will just decide to tweak and give out when I hit a small rock, or crack or hole, throwing the bottom of my foot off-balance and causing it to give out, thus causing injury. I lost a McDavid 195 ankle brace I bought before so I to decided to buy this 199 model. I was real happy with the one I lost but it did not have the wrap around Velcro straps. I went out running in the 199 for the first time yesterday. The 195 held up beautifully and I found it to be the best supporting ankle brace I had ever owned. Pros - Comfort: I found this brace to be a better fit inside my shoe. It is hinner and the slick material out of which it is made allows it to slide into the shoe with no issues. Support: I felt very supported and very confident while running that I was not going to injure my ankle. Con - The only negative I see is that lacing and strapping it up can be a challenge as the Velcro of course wants to stick to everything; the laces, the floor, your shoe... but it would not keep my from buying it again as I buy a brace for the Pros I mentioned above.

Great brace!
I purchased this on orders from my foot surgeon, because after a bad sprain my ligaments thickened and chronic swelling was causing constant pain. Even after four months, a light pressure on my ankle would cause it to swell up to the size of a grapefruit on both sides and make it hard to do anything. I'm used to sprains, since I have been competing in muay thai and dancing for over 10 years (with literally no arches), but this was the first time I didn't heal quickly. The doctor told me to wear this, because it would keep the swelling down and stabilize the ankle for quicker healing. I am a size 10 womens and I ordered a medium. It was tight around the front opening at first, but it does stretch out a bit with a few wears. I wouldn't go up a size, because if it is too loose, it won't do anything for you. It does leave a few red marks and wear marks if you wear it on bare skin, but for me, I just put some lotion on underneath and it sorts out that problem. I hate socks, but a lot of people also recommend socks if you have chafing issues. Since I started wearing this, I feel no pain when walking and there is no limping. I have done site walks that are over 8 miles and I had no discomfort and my ankle felt great. I am so impressed with it that I am buying another so I have one for daily wear and one for sports. I highly recommend this to anyone who is recovering from a sprain and is tired of limping around.
