Good product and does the job
I've read the reviews and looked at YouTube videos before placing my order. I currently have a small Royal yarn winder for a few years, but needed another for the bulky yarns and this hit the right spot. The assembly was quick and easy from the start. Before starting I placed a piece of cardboard and felt on the table also craft form under the clamp of body of the winder (I did this on a glass coffee table/not a good idea) also used some duct tape on bottom of the yarn guide to eliminate some of the shaking. It does make a lot of noise at first, so I put a couple of drops of sewing machine oil on the metal parts (this worked out very well) and did lessen the sound. I've completed 40 skeins in a few hours in one day and now can crochet and knit till my hearts content. This yarn winder will not be up permanently, this is why I did take these precautions due to the location of use. Fast delivery, good packaging of product and yes I would recommend this items.

Great Yarn Winder
I started crocheting again, after years of absence. When my granddaughter and niece both became pregnant, I decided to start up again. I was struggling with the yarn, especially toward the end of the skein. My husband suggested I purchase a yarn winder. I began searching Amazon and when I came across U-nitt I was thrilled because it wound a larger 10 oz. skein. A MAJOR plus, is the fact it has metal, NOT plastic gears. When I received mine, I immediately rewound my baby yarn and continued crocheting two baby blankets. It was so much easier and less knotting of the yarn, once I rewound them. It's a breeze! Just grab that end piece out of the center and spin away. 10 oz. are rewound in a jiffy and the yarn feeds nicely from the center. (Note: I put a piece of tape on the end of the yarn and gently stuck it to the top of the winding cone). This keeps you from losing then end back into the center, when you remove the wound yarn from the spool! In my opinion, if you intend to knit or crochet and want to keep your yarn free of tangles, this is the product to have. (I also noticed it's better to hold a very slight tension on the yarn, which helps it wind just a little tighter, which I prefer)!

Wonderful!!
This winder is wonderful! I splurged on this winder after having two other ones basically break down on me. I’m a crocheter and have A LOT of yarn that needs to be wound up. Just a few days ago, I wound up 47 skeins of yarn with this baby and had no issues with the machine. It’s all metal body construction makes it very sturdy! I also love that you can wind up to 10oz cakes! Regular yarn winders only make 4 oz cakes. So you can nearly triple how much yarn you can wind. The green cake is ONE FULL skein of red heart super saver!

What you can and can't do.
What you can do is make perfect yarn cakes in no time. This winder works wonderfully. I don't have a dedicated place for it so I just keep it put together in it's box with a cover over it. I use it on an old wood TV tray. What you CAN'T do is wind from a conventionally wound ball of yarn. The yarn coming off the ball is going to get too much tension on it just from the turning of the ball. You must unball the yarn by just making a pile in a box or on the floor (hang onto that tail!). I use 2 boxes for this with the ball in one and the pile of yarn in the other. You can then wind from the pile of yarn very easily. Seems as though some people were having problems due to this. While not really fun unballing yarn, it's the only way to make this work. This machine will do some very large cakes of yarn. I wound almost an entire cone of Sugar 'n Cream cotton. Only had to wind a few yards by hand at the end. I really love this winder and highly recommend it.

Quick, efficient and easy to use!
***I can only compare this to my experience with the little winder from Hobby Lobby...which I returned because it was terrible.*** This is my first "jumbo" ball winder. I chose this one because it was very similar to a winder that was more popular, highly rated and more expensive. I had enough $ for this one and I am so glad I picked this up. It works wonderfully!!!! It is very easy to setup and very easy to use. I wound about 10 skeins in a matter of minutes and each one came out perfect. Please note, some were cotton and others acrylic, all different sizes...each one resulted in a compact, dense, cake of yarn. This is a great product for a great price. If you are in the market for a ball winder then I highly recommend the U-nitt!

Great purchase, highly recommended
12 skeins ---> 12 yarn "cakes" in less than an hour = awesomeness. I started crocheting recently, and got a little crazy buying yarn. It was everywhere, so difficult to organize, and partially used skeins were so messy! What used to take up 2 bins, will now fit in just one. It's amazing how much space it saves when skeins are transformed into cakes. It did take a little practice to learn the best way to string the winder and how much tension to use, but I figured it out without too much trouble. This is the best thing I've bought for my new crochet obsession :D Highly recommend it for anyone like me who suddenly finds themselves with piles of yarn everywhere! I couldn't quite picture what this was going to do at first, so for anyone else who's in that boat, I took 3 photos as I wound the last one. You can get a feel for the size of this winder also.

Let's wind with this great winder!!
I had bought a less expensive plastic ball winder but when winding the skein the ball would fly off. The skein I was winding was 3 oz, so I bout the Jumbo winder. I really like it. It will will wind a 10 oz. skein so my average skeins don't fly off of it. Another great thing about this winder is it doesn't tangle. On the smaller one I bought if I stopped winding a skein the yarn would get into the gears and or get caught it the mechanism sometimes. Not with this one the winding arm is positioned in such a way that the yarn doesn't get near any gears I can stop winding a skein. Some times at the end of a skein the end of the yarn tangles with the yarn and I have to stop and untangle the skein and there is no problem what so ever in starting to wind again (until the skein I am winding tangles with itself again! LOL) I really like this winder. Using an umbrella swift is so easy with this winder because it winds consistently at the same speed.

Great for large cakes!
When I received this unit I couldn't get it turn easily. Contacted U-nitt and Julie sent me out a replacement very quickly. Great customer service. Received the new one and it works like a charm! It makes very large cakes. I learned quickly to knot one end and secure that in the top slot of the cone for ease in finding the piece to pull out of the center. You'll really enjoy using this and it makes crocheting so much more pleasant without the yarn rolling around. I would like to find out if there is a smaller cone attachment for smaller balls. I had some leftover yarns that I used and it wasn't enough to hold together given the larger center. Highly recommend.

This is a serious winder
I ordered a small plastic winder but returned it and bought this one. This is SO DIFFERENT! First of all, it's mostly metal whereas the other was all plastic. It's extremely sturdy. It will certainly last my lifetime and much more beyond. This is a large winder, so be aware that the balls are taller by about 1/2 inch to an inch than you'll get with a small winder - no big deal. I haven't reached its capacity yet - it will take a lot! My only complaint, like others, is that the gear sticks slightly in what feels like one little spot. I will try soom lubricant on it when I get the chance. Otherwise, it's perfect and I'm very pleased. It arrived promptly and well packaged.

Great Product-Great Company
I ordered this after researching jumbo ball winders. It looked sturdy and I liked the price. Upon setting it up, though, I had difficulty turning the crank smoothly; there was a consistent sticking and halting in the gear area. I sent an email to the company asking for instructions on how to adjust to make the ball winding action go smoothly. Without hesitation, the person I was dealing with sent me a new one "hand picked" from there factory. I did not complain or request a new one, but a new one came anyway. Along with the new ball winder (which works flawlessly, BTW) I was sent a post paid return label to send the "sticky" one back. This all occurred within about a week and now I am happily winding my huge cakes of hand spun yarn. I could not be happier! I highly recommend the product and I highly recommend the company!
