I installed this today and it took aaaaaall day. Let me tell you about a few things I learned along the way. If you have a long driveway, go ahead and pack all your tools. You’ll need socket wrenches, 2 size 13 wrenches, and many many many more wrenches. Plus your drill and drill bits and level etc... Also, if you’re planning on installing this on a pre-existing wooden 4x4 post where your gate is hanging. You’ll have JUST enough room to hang your bracket. But you’ll be cutting it close. And it was hard for me to find out if my cars door opener buttons would work with this gate. Truth is, all three cars (ranging from 2015-2018) had little to no problem learning the code. It took awhile to figure out what would work so I’ll try to save you the time by telling you. Pull up to your gate in your car (bring your ghost remote with you) Hold your ghost remote within a few inches of the button in your car you want programmed. Press the button in your car simultaneously with the first button on your ghost remote. Keep them held down until the light in your car does something special. Anywhere from 2-20 seconds in my case. (2 of my cars’ lights turned green. One just went from solid to flashing) If you’re pointing your ghost remote at your car button, and those steps don’t work, try holding it on the other side (instead of left side, right side) I learned this after 10 failed attempts in the Chevy. Anyways, hope this saves someone a headache.

Love this setup! I took the time to read all the reviews beforehand, and certainly glad I went with this product. I would recommend reading through to see what others have ran into, or had to purchase separately. I purchased the dual setup with solar panel. Extra, I bought the zombie lock. I created the list I "thought" I needed, and to be safe contact Ghost Controls 1st. They walked me through what I needed, and most importantly what I didn't need with my setup. I live in a state where we don't get much sunlight during the winter months, so per customer service, instead of purchasing the battery box, I was told to buy a deep cycle marine battery of which the solar panel will charge, but will keep enough power during low sunlight. With the zombie lock, you need to also purchase 2 U connects for your gates. Furthermore, with the reviews, I decided to purchase the separate pins so I could lock my system in place, so it makes it more difficult to steal. Also, if you have dual gates, you will want to purchase conduit to run your lines under your driveway "thanks to whomever wrote that review". All-in-all, the system is really nice, and works perfectly (on day 1). I followed the instructions, and it took me a full day to install (2hrs to dig driveway up to run conduit). The wireless keypads are a great addition I chose, as I have ppl in and our of my property throughout the day. High five to customer service. You actually speak with someone, and they were spot on with exactly what I needed.

This thing is like a BMW in two ways. It performs well and you're going to spend a buttload on "upgrades" that you wish were in the box, but you're still going to be pretty smug when this thing is installed and working. I know I am! 1. The locking Clevis pin. This prevents someone from unbolting your controller and taking it away. 2. The Zombie lock. This prevents someone from just removing the front mount clevis pin and opening it manually. 3. The pipe clamps for the zombie lock. Don't drill your gate. You'll just promote rust. 4. The extra remote. This kit comes with one remote. Even if you are going to program your HomeLink adapter, you'll still want one of these in the house and a backup to let folks in to the gate. Don't forget to order the battery pack. Oddly, it took two extra weeks to get my battery so I had to wait to install. Not a big deal, but caveat emptor. This was my first gate install and I rate it on a 3/5 for difficulty because the person who designed the enclosure for the control box doesn't ever have to install it with accessories themselves. If they did, they would know they failed. Regardless, it is working SUPER well and lives up to everything that past and current Mighty Mule owners say why they love the Ghost Controls unit better. The instructions could be really simplified when it comes to the whole process of measuring the gate. I followed the instructions, making marks where I was told, and that utterly failed. Then I realized that what I needed to do was: 1. Attach the control arm to the rear mount following the clearance guidance. 2. Open the gate all the way to the position where you want it to open and stop. Shorten the control arm by rotating it until it is all the way IN and touch it roughly to where it will mount to the gate. If that meets the distance and clearance guidance, strap that baby on using the provided clamps and move onto the control box instructions. 3. Once you have the control box working, use the JOG CLOSE button to push the gate to the desired stop point and then press and hold the 1ST POSITION until it beeps. At that point, you're pretty much done. Any decent DIYer that hasn't violated the length limitation on the gate and has the rear mount configured at the right height with the proper clearance will be able to manage easily with a few tweaks from there. Side note: the guidance to use two pliers to force the clamps close is a bit silly. I have a few set of those Quick Clamps for woodworking from your local home improvement center. Best investment ever and as good as an extra pair of hands sometimes during this project.

I've been using this dual swing gate opener for a few weeks now. My biggest regret is that I didn't install it sooner. I was on the fence (haha) between this and the Mighty Mule - but given the MM's mixed reviews and higher price, I decided to take a chance on the GC. Operation: I was surprised how quiet it is. You can configure it to make loud beeps to warn pedestrians, animals, etc. when it operates - but I've turned it off out of sympathy for my neighbors. It has adjustable force controls, similar to an overhead garage door. Mine is mounted on an extremely light aluminum gate, so it's a bit overkill. Ease of install: The actuator and control box wiring is extremely easy. However, fabricating wooden brackets to get it to fit to my fence and gate took 90% of the time. My biggest complaint is that all of the included bolts have locknut fasteners, so you can't screw the nut farther down on the bolt if there is excess length. In other words, it has to be a perfect fit, or you have to use spacers. Also, they are metric - so good luck getting inexpensive replacement hardware at Lowe's. I really don't understand this. I just bought my own SAE bolts and nuts - much easier. Unless you have tubular gates of exactly the right dimensions, figure on making a few trips to the hardware store. Programming: Again, super easy. The trick is to set the gate so that it closes with some residual pressure applied on the stop plate so that it doesn't flap if there's a strong breeze. Again, my gate is extremely light, so heavier gates might not have this issue. This whole process takes about 5 minutes at most, though. Remotes seem to work about ~40 feet away. Other expenses: You have to buy a battery. I thought you could just hook it up to an outlet, but that is used to charge the battery. Figure about $40 for a small lawnmower battery and another $10 for a battery box (which I mounted to the fence). You'll need something to dig a trench under your driveway. After trying and failing to use the water jet method, I ended up digging out that black expansion rubber between my concrete slabs. I ran the actuator cable through some flexible shroud and wedged it all between the slabs. I guess the alternative is to jack-hammer a section of concrete out... There is some pain associated with individual circumstances - but now that it's up and running, I love it. I was quoted nearly $6k by a local company to put in one giant automated single swing gate (which would look dumb in a residential setting). I am enjoying the feeling of saving over $5k on this project.

We really enjoy not having to walk and open the gate manually anymore. Plus, all our guest are impressed that we can open our gate with the click of a button - it really makes your property feel special! Before purchasing a Ghost Control gate opener, we did a good deal of research and this seemed like the best quality do it yourself gate system on the market. We've had it about 6 months and so far, it seems well made and works great! It's taken some time to learn the ins and outs of this system, but the Ghost Controls customer service has been terrific in helping us troubleshoot. They usually answer the phone immediately when called and they take the time to answer questions and help you understand the system better. A+ for customer service and a good quality product!

I was a little skeptical to purchase this product after reading some of the reviews. However, I needed a product that was solar powered and reasonably priced so I decided to purchase it. So far I am as pleased as punch with this gate opener. So far this product has stood the test of the elements, It works through sun and rain. I live in an area that experience very heavy rains and wind and the occasional power outages. So far there is no damage to the gate opener system. It took me two days to install, but that's only because I spent lots of time planning exactly how I wanted to position the control box and batteries and I spent over 4 hours building a stand to house them. However, once you read the installation manual and plan properly you could have the system up and running in about two hours. After three days of rain and very little sun, the gate opener was still working perfectly. I am so happy with this product that I also purchased the wireless keypad. The keypad was installed within minutes and working perfectly. I also had to contact Ghost Controls for a little tech support for the remotes and I found that they were very responsive and resolved my issue within minutes. But for programming the remotes and keypad you have to read the instructions very carefully and follow them exactly as it states. Finally, I wish to say thanks to Ghost controls for developing these excellent products. I waited for years to get a solar gate opener with wireless keypads. So If anyone is looking for a quality gate opener that can work through the elements, I highly recommend Ghost Control products to you.

I love this gate opener. I have it set up opening a pair of 10' gates and it works fantastic. Gates open fairly quick for a system that is powered off of a single 12v car battery. Highly recommended if you are installing security gates. 6 month later: It is nearing the end of winter here in Oregon. Through a fairly rainy winter this system faithfully opened my gates. So nice to sit in the dry car and wait for the gates to open! Still opening quickly and silently. I have added a remote keypad for friends to get in and an exit sensor so they can get back out. These wire up to the main controller and work well. My opener even survived a neighbor ripping the gate off the post with their trailer! Had to straighten the bracket and silicone up the cracked case but still working good as new! I added a 10w solar charger to keep the battery topped off and that works great as well.

I researched gate openers for several months. Selected Ghost Controls because it was the best value with the best reviews. I have the heavy duty double gate, the 10 watt solar panel, the double battery holder, the key pad, and the driveway sensor, all ghost control. Total was about $1200. This beat the price of the other once I added the other items I needed. I installed it myself and had no problems. Instructions were good, the hardware is excellent, everything I was included. I did use PVC/electrical conduit to run the cables out of the ground and around to the other components. The key pad is wireless which is nice. I mean this is a good quality gate. The control box is very nice, secure, and dry. The gate actuators seem to be top notch. The options on the controller board are good. (how long the gate stays open, setting the endpoints of travel for the gates). You can set the endpoints so the gates are pressed pretty good against each other and no motion due to wind or other minor disturbances. The gates sequences nicely (one gate is always first to completely close regardless of the endpoints you set). I've had this up and running for over 3 months now and not a single issues. The two remotes work great and are pretty long range (400-500 ft or so). A few different gate modes are available which is nice. The auto open on departure (with the driveway sensor) just rocks! I can't say enough about how happy I am with this gate opener, I don't see how it could be any better than it is.

I bought this to replace my fourth mighty mule opener. Mm has changed their design over the years - my first one was twenty years ago. It lasted for years. I replaced the motor after about seven years - bought an rc car motor that worked fine - for a while. Then they changed the opener design so that all the electronics were in the opener. After one malfunction after another, I replaced it. More issues. Then another arm. Finally I decided to try another brand. I got the Ghost and installed it today. First impressions: it’s nice! Quieter, smoother, nicer hardware, great instructions. It has a “soft stop” where it slows down at the full open and closed positions. Nice. The control board is easy to understand and hook up. My friends all have mm transmitters, as do I, so I bought a mm receiver to install for them. Easy install. Lifetime warranty on motor and gearbox, so I’m optimistic that maybe it’ll do the job for years. We’ll see, but so far, I’m impressed!
