Excellent basic CB radio

Cobra 19 IV Review This radio gets 5 stars because it does exactly what it promises. It puts basic citizen band capabilities into your hands. This is a very basic radio. It has no special noise blanker buttons or other enhancements. This is the perfect radio to take on a road trip and to talk to truckers within about 2 miles or so. The range of your communication depends on your antenna. I have talked to truckers 5 miles away with a Little Wil 300 mag mount antenna on the center of my minivan roof. The signals are clear, and other stations will reply and give you good audio reports with the stock microphone. This is not a good radio for around town when you want to talk to folks five miles away. This radio is too responsive to interference and noise. This is not a radio to have when you want to monitor CB channels as you drive around town. You would have to constantly adjust the squelch as you are driving past shopping centers and businesses. It also has that popping sound when a station (or some noise) out there breaks your squelch. This is common among low-priced CB radios, and your Cobra is one the best of the bunch, but it still is a bit annoying. One feature I like very well is the squelch control. It stands out from all the other controls, and for good reason. The squelch is something you have to adjust frequently. With the way the button is protruding you can just feel for the squelch and adjust it without having to look at it. Just to cover all the bases: this is an AM mode only radio so it does not receive or transmit sideband signals. It does not have channel scanning. It has a a button that allows to quickly tune to channels 9 and 19. This radio does not have a weather radio section or any weather alerts. It is just a simple 40 channel AM CB radio. This radio delivers everything it promises. You will enjoy the truckers on the road, and they will hear you loud and clear. You will hear them loud and clear as the speaker built into the radio does a really good job. If you are thinking about getting a basic CB radio for hunting to talk to and coordinate with other hunters, this one will do the job, and it will do it very well. The controls feel tight and solid. The case feels solid and substantial. The radio comes with a mounting bracket and related screws and bolts, and it comes with a microphone which does very well. This is a CB radio that transmits 4 watts out (the legal limit), so it will do fine when plugged into your cigarette lighter. However, a cigarette lighter plug is not included in the box.

Serves it's purpose.

Just installed this today. Got the cable , mount and antenna from a local truck stop. Antenna is 4 ft., nothing special. I was able to talk to my boss at work from 3 miles away. Faint but plenty clear. Happy and satisfied.

Cost and clarity of communication.

Using it in my 18-wheeler truck.
