This works great. I have a two part hitch: the first is the shank which goes directly into the hitch receiver and the second goes up and down in the shank to give me rise or drop. Both parts had a lot of play. I got two of these and it elimainated any and all movement. I've added some pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Good Quality Material but Got a Bad Nut

It seemed to work fine until I tried to remove it and one nut was frozen to the bolt. I had put it on finger tight so it wasn't cross-threaded. Twisted the bolt off it was frozen so tight. Good quality bolts and material other than that. May have just been a bad nut. Returned for refund. UPDATE: Even though they refunded my money, this vendor sent another tightener for me to try. The second one worked with no problem. I have to give them five stars if nothing else for their costumer service. But the tightener works great also. No more noise and the bike rack doesn't wobble back and forth.

Well worth the investment!

Initial experience is good. Good apparent quality. Included hardware served the needs of the installation. Used this with a hitch mounted rack, this worked great to remove the wiggling, banging and clanging of the rack behind the van. It takes about 10 min to install the first time and then about 2-3 min to remove and reinstall. I added a ratchet and socket to the van tool box so that the needed tool would be handy. Once this was installed, I barely knew that the rack was installed.

Hitch Tightener on a 1 1/2" to 2" adapter

I used two of these tighteners to add support to my bike rack. The 'clamping' helps to support my heavy bike rack and prevents wobbling. two 5/16" plates are strong enough to keep the bike rack from overloading the 1 1/4 to 2" adapter.

Does not fit on my 2013 F-150. There is not enough room under the rear bumper for the nuts and washers and will not work by turning it upside down and bolting from beneath. After the manufacturer RETECK saw my negative review they contacted me and asked for details and photos of my hitch. The draw bar I use is short and has an upward curve in it. RETECK offered to send me a modified tightener customized to fit my hitch free of cost. I received the modified tightener today and installed it and it works perfectly. The tightener is very well made (as was the first one I was sent) and I never have received better customer service. The manufacturer is evidently very concerned with customer satisfaction. Therefore, I must change my review form one star to five stars.

Highly Recommended

So far so good! I am using a 1 1/4 inch bike rack with a 2 inch adapter. The rattling was so severe that I felt uncomfortable using this setup. This hitch tightener fixed all my problems. The hitch and receiver stay put and does not move at all now. Can't beat the price, and it was packaged very nicely!

Not a good fit for a 1-1/4 in receiver, Great customer service!

The parts are very nice quality, I would think that it would work great with a 2 in receiver. The issue that I have is it's quite sloppy on my BMW 323i wagon with a 1-1/4 in Curt hitch. Don't know why no one makes a clamp like this sized for the smaller receiver. I use two different hitches in my receiver,one is a 1-1/4 to 2 in adapter,for a rack, the other is a draw bar for towing a small trailer. This clamp does not work well with either one. Maybe if you could purchase a second plate to go on the top side of the clamp,this would help tighten things up. I hate to have to buy a second kit just to get the plate needed to try this. I thought about trying to fabricate a top plate,but forming the lip seems beyond my scope. Anyway I hate having to re-engineer something I just purchased that doesn't work quite right. Wanted to update my original review. With help from Rose, the company send me another clamp kit so that I could add a second plate to the top of the U bolt. This tightened things up nicely. Now the U bolt pulls directly perpendicular to receiver and hitch,whereas before the U bolt was tilted @ 60 degrees shifting the pulling pressure. This kind of customer support is rare in today's world. THANK YOU for caring this much about customer support. Truly amazing!

Top notch product and vendor support

11-5-18 Updated review: The vendor was prompt to respond & resolve the issue I had with the stainless steel hardware galling. Vendor sent a complete kit that contains nuts made from a different alloy. Twelve days from the date of my original (cry for help) review was all it took to have the replacement in my hand. As much as I hate anti-seize compound (the gift that keeps on giving...kinda like herpes, once you have it, everything else you touch will have it too) I will use a dab of that silvery goo, and then when it's not in use store the tightener in a zip-lock. 10-18-18 Original review: Headline: It was a 5 Star product until... I'm hoping my one star review will capture the attention of the seller so I can get some assistance. I can find the product all over in google searches, just can't find contact info for the distributor. I purchased this tightener in June of 2017, used it a few times and it kept my cargo platform steady as a rock. The second time I tried to use it this past summer the nuts seized to the U-bolt before the clamp even got tight. I drove home with four mountain bikes on a wagging cargo platform, I was pretty underwhelmed. Now as I've read other in other reviews, the nuts seized due to a condition called "galling" also known as "cold welding" which is caused by friction during the tightening process and is quite common with stainless steel fasteners. I thought about using anti-seize compound the few times that I used it, but figured I wouldn't need it because the tightener wouldn't be used for long periods of time (4 days max) and wouldn't have a chance to corrode. Also, I was using a ratcheting box-end wrench to tighten it, so it took very little speed/torque to create enough heat to gall the threads. I worked in the auto repair industry for 20 years and had never experienced galling. If I had no idea galling was a possibility, I've got to guess 99% of the people who purchase this product are ignorant as well. Some forewarning/instructions would have prevented this, now all I have is an odd looking paperweight.

Why didn't I know about this sooner?

This item is a must have for cargo or bike racks. My racks are solidly in place and there is no movement when driving. I was always concerned with how much play was in the cargo/bike rack while driving. I felt all the motion would work things loose, of course they didn't but I was still worried. This completely ties the rack into the bumper hitch so it is solid and acts like part of the truck. Excellent product. Do yourself a favor and buy this.... Will the bolts come loose when I change out my hitch? Time will tell. I will update when I have to switch them out to haul my trailer.

Fits my GM truck

I really like this little item. Heavy plate (5/16" Steel) with a good paint job. 1/2" stainless steel U bolt, stainless steel nuts and washers. Fits my GM truck factory 2" hitch perfectly. Fair price. Couldn't ask for more.
