VERY SOFT - DON'T RECOMMEND
I ordered this stone wanting to use the 240 side the most as I have a couple of knifes with small chips that I wanted to get out quickly. I soaked the stone and started on the 240 side. I worked the knife for about 30 minutes and didn't notice any burr at all. Even the tiny chips were still there and I couldn't detect any metal gone. What did happen, though, was the 240 side basically just started to disintegrate. It was worn far down with just the one knife I started with. In my opinion, the 240 side is junk and cannot do what it's supposed to do. Next, I tried the 800 side. This side is much better than the 240. I was able to get a knife to factory sharpness on this side - BUT, almost the same softness as the 240 - the stone has extreme wear. I used this stone correctly and it should not have worn with a single knife like this. It was not worth my time ordering because it does not do what it claims. UPDATE 5/11/19: I emailed customer service and they sent me a replacement stone (1000/4000) This is supposed to be better quality. I have not used it yet but I am upping the stars on my review for their help. I will update with what happens with this new stone.

It’s a rock solid purchase
When I first came across the need for a stone such as this one, I thought it was going to be a hard choice. After what felt like days of grinding through product reviews I came across this stone cold bad boy. I grit my teeth and went ahead with the purchase. Turns out it was a flat out dandy purchase. Any sharp minded person would be happy with this purchase.

Fantastic Stone for Heavily Damaged knives
The 240/800 Whetstone is a great starting stone if you don't want to spend the hundreds on a full Naniwa set. No doubt, the Naniwa is produced to a higher standard and possibly more uniform grit. However this doesn't really matter as much when all you're doing to taking away large amounts of material to remove chips. The 240 isn't super coarse, but it is definitely fine enough that it doesn't leave deep gouges in the metal forcing you to go through a wider range of stone grits to remove gouges from anything more coarse. Going from 240 grit to 800 grit will take more time than say from 240 to 600, but if this is your only stone, 800 will suffice a finishing grit, even though I personally would recommend getting the 1000/6000 to along with this one as a bare minimum. I personally own the 1000/6000 and 3000/8000 combination stones. Combined with a leather strop and honing paste, you can get your knives shaving sharp.

Excellent budget stone
Originally bought this product to use as a flattening stone for another higher grit (advertised as 1000/6000) combo stone, which this product immediately replaced. The 240 grit feels like it might be slightly higher grit but still is a great stone for removing material fast for re-profiling and setting an edge. The 800 side feels much better than even the 6000 grit of the other stone, although I believe its the other stone that is wrongly advertised. Although not a polishing stone it is an excellent medium grit for achieving an edge capable of shaving hair. At the $15 price point the lack of a base is easily overlooked, although this does come with the silicon backing to fit other bases I already have. Anyone looking for a budget entry level stone look no further.

Great stone for the money!
Bought this stone to learn and develop the basics of sharpening using whetstones. I soaked the stone for a handful of minutes, and left a small stream of water from the tap pouring onto the stone, and with a few youtube videos under my belt highlighting techniques, I took some of our bang-around junk'ish kitchen knives and brought them all back to life, and then took to my edc pocket knives! This stone was VERY handy, and is a great value for someone wanting to put a hair popping edge on their knives. I later added a 1000/4000 for higher polished/finished edges, but this wasnt necessary to achieve an awesome working shaving-sharp edge!

Works Great with Henckels Knives
We have a 7 year old Henckels Knife Set. We've been using the Sharpening Steel with the set for a while, but wanted to try something different. We never used a stone before, but this one seems as good as any. The other pictures show exactly what you'll get. It also comes with a set of instructions that shows one method of knife sharpening, but you can always find a good video online as well. I do wish it came with an angle guide, but I probably would not be diligent in using that anyways. The rubber holder was a nice addition, especially when wetting the stone. Using the stone for the first time, the stone seems to do a nice job. I'll continue to use it over time and if there are any updates needed, I'll write more. Thanks.

excellent stone
great quality. I used this in combination with my other stones to get my BK2 to a convex grind, this stone really helps shave the steel off.

Good All Around Stone
This stone has worked very well for everything I've tried it on so far. This includes several pocket knives, a couple of various kitchen knives, and a handful of tools i.e.; wood chisels, scraper, etc. I may by another though with 2 more grits, to give me even more variety.

Works as advertised
My kershaw knife's friends were complaining because it became very dull. I used the 240 side for sharpening and the 800-side for making it look pretty. "Dull-ness be gone!" said the whet-stone. All my knife's friends are now in pieces.
