The log splitter was fantastic. In fact, it would have gotten 5 starts, except for the engine. Since the engine is horrid, and it won't run without an engine, it got dropped to 1 star. When I unpacked it to assemble it, I was struck by two things. First, this this is much heavier and beefier than I expected, with better quality parts. I have a number of pieces of farm equipment from China, and the quality varies a lot. This is definitely one of the better pieces of Chinese-manufactured equipment. Secondly, I was impressed with the thought that went into the ease of assembly, and some of the well thought out engineering. Lots of innovative features for a log splitter. We got her fired up to split some wood today. So much fun watching big pieces of wood turn into nice, burnable little pieces. Nothing like the nice snap of a big eucalyptus log feeling the pressure, then giving way into two pieces. It splits wood, does it nicely, and with features that make it easier, and with some beef behind it so you think that it's going to last a long time. One annoying thing though.... every now and then, the engine would just stop. No sputtering, not under load.... it would just die, like an ignition problem. It would always restart on the first pull. Well, after about 25 pulls on this first day of about 2 hours of splitting, the pull cord stayed out, and I could see that the recoil pull mechanism was jammed inside. I pulled off the recoil starter, and one of the pawl fingers fell out on the ground. So I took the starter into the shop and pulled it apart. What I found was that Briggs had built their whole recoil starter of very low quality cheap plastic on the inside. The part that takes the full torque of a pull start to get the engine going was plastic, and this one happened to be broken plastic. That isn't going to last..... come to think of it, it didn't last...even a day. Not a good sign for what you thought was going to be a reliable piece of equipment. So now I have a $1000 piece of farm equipment with a very cheaply built, unreliable engine on it. So the same quality thinking that gives you cheap plastic on a very high stress part probably leads to other areas inside the engine that aren't so easy to see.... like maybe the ignition system that keeps stopping?? At any rate, the log splitter is great, and would continue to be great if it had a Honda engine on it instead of this absolute piece of garbage Briggs that they used. I have many years experience working on small engines, and stopped using Briggs a long time ago due to quality issues, and I see that they have only gotten worse. I was hoping that a quality log splitter would have used a quality engine, but now I'm learning the hard way that Briggs has gotten worse, not better. The Chinese-built Honda clone from that large tool store that I put on my Ditch Witch is built much better than this Briggs engine. Too bad YardMax doesn't offer engine options, then they would be the best thing out there for the price. FOLLOW-UP: YardMax came through with great customer service, so the rating went up to 5 stars, which is what the splitter is. As soon as they got involved, I had a new Brigg pull recoil unit the next day, and they offered to send a whole new engine. The YardMax person in charge of procurement and specifying the parts called me, and he was extremely interested to know exactly what the engine problems were. He said that they have 1000 of these out there with this engine, and this is the first engine warranty issue. If so, a 0.1 % failure rate isn't bad, and I evidently just ended up with an engine with two problems. I think the engine stopping issue was caused by a sticking low oil shutdown float; I messed with it a bit, and it runs pretty steady now. I would still prefer a Honda or Honda-clone engine, but YardMax's customer service took care of the problem right away. That being said, the Briggs customer service is absolutely worthless, so I'm extremely glad that YardMax can call their contact over there and get something done. Their normal customer service's answer was for me to spend an hour pulling the engine, drive 45 minutes to a warranty repair station [the local one now refuses to do any Briggs warranty work], leave it there, drive back to pick it up when done, then spend another hour re-installing the engine [2 hours work and 3 hours of driving to get a warranty repair]. They don't even offer to send out the bad part on a new engine when their local warranty repair station won't work on them anymore. One reason that I hate Briggs. After I got the engine running again, did more splitting, and this splitter is great to use. It went through some very gnarly eucalyptus logs, and it's really fun watching them split. The vertical feature really comes in handy for those very large and heavy rounds. A very well engineered and thought-out machine, that appears to be very rugged. If the engine keeps running, I'm a happy camper.

Definitely need assistance with assembly, two person job for sure. Once it was assembled the splitting began and it was a powerhouse! The splitter ate thru everything we threw at it and didn't stop. Powered through knots, big rounds, it split it all.

This is awesome, split 4 cords of wood, so far , no problems

Could not be happier. We split some elm logs that were full of knots and 40" in diameter no problem.

Great setup. Definitely a two person setup, but we'll built. Only thing that would make it better would be oil for the engine included. So many more features for the same price as the ones at Lowe's or Home Depot such as the log cradles and a full beam over a half beam and the hydraulic reservoir inside the axle.

Absolutely love this log splitter. The power is fantastic, easy start, not very loud. For a couple aging in their 50's, it was becoming impossible to keep up with wood for our fireplace. This log splitter is so efficient, that after about 2 weekends of splitting the wood, we have enough supply to last through this winter and into the next. So easy to use, not overly loud, and works as expected. Love the tow behind feature, as you can split the large rounds before you load them to bring them home!

So far very pleased. I have split close to seven cords of ash and oak in a very short time and it works great. It is a 2 person job to assemble safely out of the box.

and get their half beam 25t, same everything just a newer design, the half beam has nothing to do with the size of logs it will split or how much power it has. i bought mine $1025 (about) on Amazon, on their website they are selling for $1099, not sure on their shipping price. i found the spike wheel good for holding odd ball logs in place at the base, same day we put it together we split about 3 cords and a few gnarly ones that i would not put on there again. the motor is really good on gas, and it did come full of hydraulic fluid, we did have to put half a quart of oil in the motor which came with it. shipping, everything arrived in good condition, i got a call the night before it arrived, mine arrived a day later then Amazon stated, not a huge deal over all i am happy with it, every splitter i researched practically says, do not split really gnarly knotty logs, just toss them aside, we put some big ones to the test and even the few gnarly ones id rather not put on there again and it split through them. it definitely takes two people to assemble it is heavy, over all did not take long to put together. its a solid splitter,

One powerful splitter haven't found a log that it won't split. Split logs that are two foot around and two foot high that are green weigh 100 to 150 lb without a problem. Strong built even the splitting platform are well made .Had no problem with assembly even though it is heave it is crated well and goes gather with no problems good instruction. Starts with ease on the first pull with a strong running motor. It comes with that other splitters don't have YardMax goes the Exeter mile with this splitter .Comes with hydraulics hooked up and with the oil in it for running no hoses to hookup a few bolts gas and oil in motor your ready to start splitting. with the tilt up I split sitting on a log no lifting.

Great product. Had no problems so far. Go to youtube and watch video on how to assemble.
