We got this shovel since our other two single handle ...
We got this shovel since our other two single handle shovels were too broken to use. We live in Western, NY and with the amount of snow we get, I spend a lot of time shoveling. I deal with plenty of back issues so we gave this shovel a try. Shoveling even heavy snow was easier using the secondary handle. Time spent shoveling was reduced, greatly for light snow. This past winter I actually looked forward to the exercise. I am about shy of 5'8" and I didn't have to bend too much unless it was heavier snow which at that point I just took my time scooping it up. Taller individuals may find themselves bending a bit to use the shovel as it's not adjustable.

Great shovel!
I just used this shovel to clear the first snow of the year here in New York, and I loved it! We got two inches, followed by some rain, so the snow was very heavy. I'm a tall guy and most shovels force me to bend over, leading to a sore back. I'm happy to say that my back feels great compared to other shovels that I have used, and I finished the job faster than usual. The springiness makes it easier to throw the snow farther, and helps you to control the shovel as you reset to scoop again. My elderly neighbor set down his cane to give it a try, and he was able to lift and throw the heavy snow!

Will definitely buy more !!!
I really contemplated purchasing this shovel due to some of the reviews I read but I’m so glad I did. Anyone who has back problems will be happy to know that the shovel actually offers relief and works. We both have bad backs and we’re skeptical. The shovel is very light weight which I like. We did not have any problems with the knob on the side. We’ve had two snowstorms and so far one was over 8 inches and the girls are about 6 inches. Both times shoveling was completed faster and with no pain. It does have a small blade on the bottom but I wouldn’t use it to break up ice. It is really no different than the blades on some other snow shovels. So far so good. My husband was thrilled. I think it was his favorite gift this year!!

Two handles = easier than one
Saves me from bending over for snow. Tosses snow easily (6' or more, couldn't do that with the old shovel). I'm over 6' and have to bend down slightly with the short handle on the Snow Joe. Much less than the older shovel. Metal piece on the bottom helps scrape the patio and solid walkways. Also, pushes into wind packed snow pretty well. If you're working with brick-like snow drifts, try slicing from the top and scooping out at a near 90 degree angle to the ground. Forget trying to lift out pieces of it until you break through the brick-like snow. Light weight. The wiggly second handle takes some getting used to. Snow didn't stick to this shovel. Worked fine for light fluffy snow, powdery wind packed snow, and frozen brick-like snow (expect to use more force pushing / shoving shovel into this kind of material). -10 F, 20 F, snow didn't stick. Snow slides off easily. Took seconds to assemble. The wing nut on the handle is a little inconvenient. Bumped my body a few times tossing snow to the side before kind of got a rhythm without running into the wing nut. Could do without that. Overall, I went from shoveling in 2 hr sessions to 3-4 hr sessions. Cleared my driveway in one day instead of two. I have so much fun shoveling snow (granted, I just like shoveling snow) I widened out the driveway and shoveled the grass. If the wind fills it back in, I'll move it again. Shoveling 2+ hrs works the shoulders ... a lot, ha ha. Just remember to even out the work by switching hand positions on the handles. Get one side of the body too strong, pain can result over time. Every so often, just switch hands on the handles. Give one side a break and work the other. Have fun. I have fun with this shovel.

Finally a decent shovel
I could not wait to get a decent shovel that would not break my back. I assembled it and removed a couple of shovelfuls but the storm and need to shovel had already passed. The remaining snow has almost all melted but I will have it ready for our next storm. I am just so happy to have a decent shovel that is not 40 plus years old and worn out. It seems to work and it appears that it will last me a long time but only time will tell.

Works great! No back pain.
I was skeptical due to some of the negative reviews I read before buying this because it seemed gimmicky. But we had a huge snow storm and our old shovel bent right in half. None of our local stores had any snow shovels left and there was more snow on the way! This one was affordable enough that I thought I would just use it until I found something better but wow! This thing is handy! It takes some getting used to, but it’s really sturdy and works well on all types of snow. My fiancé shoveled the whole driveway in less time and less strain than our old one. He loves it too. It’s worth a try for the price, especially if you have back problems.

Fantastic Twist to the conventional snow shovel!!
These bad boys are a TOTAL back saver!! I've ordered five of them... I have a crew of four up on the roof of our motel clearing off over 3' of snow (on a 300 ft. run of roof!!) and THEY love them too. I've shoveled several hundred pounds of the white stuff myself, and I gotta tell ya, I will NEVER use a "regular" snow shovel again! Having that extra handle is a God-Send!! If you're [semi] old :-) like me (60) or a young buck that just needs something that will fling the snow WAY out of the way - GET YOURSELF one or more of these! You'll LOVE it!!

Great shovel.
Shoveling the double car wide driveway that is 60 feet long. No issues. I push the snow and shovel. Easy on the muscles and back. The second handle does make it easier to shovel. I am 5'6" 160 pounds, 33 years old, and fit. This works great for me. We live in North Idaho and had a few minor snow storms so far. UPDATE...lots of snow. The screw connecting the handle came out so the handle falls off 3 or so times an hour when I throw the snwo. I need to get another screw. Simple fix. I use this with a snow push. We have a 60x17 foot drieway and I use the gravel RV parking on the side for my car. I like to plow a small portion of the street in front of the driveway so we can back out easier. I also plow the mailbox to keep it clear. I create three large holes to push the snow and shovel it out. 2 on the front of the driveway and one by the front door. The snow push saves a lot of time from using a shovel to push/shovel. I like to use the push and shovel it off from my push locations. The push is great for clearing it down to the cement and several neighbors have complemented how clean we get it. The push is good for 3 inches or less of fluffy snow. Real easy to push and clean fast. I have done 5 inches ofnfluff and really have to section it up and then push ton The side. Shovel the push will pack it so it gets heavy if it too deep or wet. 1 inch of wet snow can be rough. If you use this ofelten and keep up on the snow, it is great. We had one storm dump 20 inches in 24 hours and it took 8.5 hours, but i keep it clear. Half was fluffy, half was wet. My forearms were sore and my body was tired. I also like to switch up my hands to shovel. I use a spin technique to throw it when tired. Here are some stats for the above area I mentioned I clear. I push it to my 3 spots and shovel the spots out so I can use the spots again. 1/2 inch of fluffy. 20 minutes of push. 8 minutes of shovel. 1 & 1/2 inches of super wet. 60 minutes push . 30 minutes of shovel. 4 inches of 75% fluff 25% wet. 41 minutes push to clear to the side real fast. 4 hours of fluff. 1 hour push. 1 hour shovel. 3/4 of an inch fell while clearing and I cleared it again within the 2 hours. Very quiet. Good workout. The shovel cuts deep and can really lift. The second handle makes a huge difference to reduce fatigue.

So much easier than our old snow shovel
I am so happy with this shovel. We got it right before we got hit with 8" of wet snow. Not sure how we would have cleared our walk and driveway without it. Love the springy second handle. It really does make it easier to toss the snow. I'm six foot tall and it worked wonderfully for me. I don't understand a comment I saw that made it sound like the handle placement wouldn't work for any tall people. Weird. A few people have knocked the quality of construction. So far, we've had no complaints. Is it as heavy as a regular shovel? No. But when you're scooping and tossing a lot of snow, having a lighter weight shovel can be a benefit. I would definitely recommend this shovel to any family member or friend.

Snow Joe SJ-SHLV01
I used this shovel to clear out a driveway covered with 10" of snow. It was more of a good cardio workout than backbreaking labor thanks to that 2nd handle. The aluminum edge is sharp enough to cut through crusty snow, but it's not dangerously sharp like a sword or anything. It seems to glide well over ice and concrete without being too snaggy or clingy. The bolt and wingnut on the main handle allow for disassembly, but not length adjustment. My digital bath scale says it weighs about 3.6 lbs. This is a well designed and well built product made of premium materials. I believe it will last for many seasons.
