Perfect for occassion use supporting repair work
Great set of basic thread chasing taps. These carbon steel taps are not made for repeatedly cutting full threads in un-threaded material. They are perfect, however, for cleaning up threads in already made items. This is often needed when corrosion and/or debris have compromised a pipe or part. Having the full range of common pipe thread sizes in one inexpensive kit makes it easy to have on hand.

Good set but wish had a case
These are one of those things that you may not need often but when you do, it's nice to have around. There are a few things to keep in mind - first, these come in relatively cheap plastic sleeves so you will probably need a case or something to make sure they don't get lost and stay together. Next, these are NOT adequate to create a NEW thread which is a bit disappointing. They are fine to re-thread. Next time around I'd spend a bit more and go with a better bit able to handle all thread needs. Still, these are an affordable option which work well for casual and/or occasional use.

Great quality
My son used this to work on a pipe in the basement, he said that it worked great, and noticed that they are very good quality. It worked great for the job he needed to do, and had no problem fixing it. They are a little heavier then other tools he has used, but they did a great job with what he needed them for.

Nice set of very well made taps
Years ago I found an interesting old wooden box in my parents' basement that had some pieces of very precise looking machine tools in them and I had no idea what they were but they were carefully packed in sawdust, so I knew then had some value. I asked my father he said they were the taps that my grandfather used to thread pipes in his plumbing work and that he had learned his craft working on, believe it or not, steam railroads. I got kind of fascinated by the concept over the years learned how to fix and repair old pipe threads. I'm not particularly good at it but I have to say it's a still a pretty interesting hobby and comes in quite handy at times. I'm just using these to clean up some rusty old threads as I work my way around the basement plumbing but they're very high in quality. These taps are extremely well machined and they seem exceedingly sharp to me. I still kind of prefer working with the taps that my grandfather used long before I was born, but it's nice to add some nice new ones to that set. One thing I've learned about doing this is to be patient try to keep the taps going in very straight and use the force you need, usually the metal will take it. I'm going to buy some raw pipe and try cutting in new threads with these, for fun if nothing else.

ohhhhh yesss!
I used one of these to fix the threads on my autoclave (basically a big stinky pressure cooker). The lid is aluminum, and someone must have tried really hard to screw up the pressure gauge threads, because they were a mess. The appropriately sized tap easily reamed out the aluminum threads well enough to make good contact and not damage the gague assembley. These appear to me to be high quality tools. It has been so long since I have seen carbon steel I hardly remember what it looks like anymore.

1/8-3/4 NPT Thread Taps- Tool Steel
These are good quality hardened alloy tool steel pipe thread taps. They include the most common smaller sized taps for most household and light commercial use. They can be used on cast Iron, soft steel, and any copper bearing non ferrous alloy. They can be used either with a large tap wrench or a high quality spanner. You can construct your own tap wrench if needed. They are made in China, but the quality of Chinese tool steel has improved in the past few years and I am confident these taps will pose no problems if properly used (with cutting oil and proper advancement and back off for cleaning and lubrication). I highly recommend this light duty, General Purpose NPT pipe thread tap set.

Did The Job!!
Excellent tap set. Very well made from Carbon Steel and they do their job without kinking or binding. I needed to thread some PVC to fit some old pipes that nobody seemed to be able to replace (I've been through that circus before with plumbers) and my Son suggested I just thread my own PVC piping and replace it myself. I said fine...how bout you come help. He did that weekend and we managed to reroute (badly needed) some awkward piping done by some plumber years ago and get a much better shoot to the bathroom tub in question. It took us all a late morning and the afternoon to cut the threads and run the pipes and then patch the sheet rock back into place. Looks as good as new and we even get better pressure without all the kinds and turns in the piping. This tap set turned out to make the job easy as pie (this would have cost me at least $300 with my plumber). They are squared off ends though and you can't use most socket wrenches but I just happen to have a square set that belonged to my dad back in the day and they worked like a charm. The set comes in it's on case (sturdy plastic) and with a little elbow grease and these precision cutting tools you can do yourself a favor and plumb for a lot less than I've paid in the past. I give them Five Stars easy.

A Very Nice Set of Carbon Steel Taps
This Drill America POUCSNPT5 5 Piece Carbon Steel NPT Pipe Tap Set comes individually packaged; I thought it would come in a box like some other sets I have seen. It's well made and came lightly lubricated. The threads are very sharp and they cut through metals and pipes without much effort, provided that you use the proper drill size. I recommend it!

Working well for us
My husband's pretty pleased with these. They're perfectly fine for home-level use (we're not professionals in a trade that would use these regularly so I can't really comment on that part). He's used two of them so far and said they performed without fault. Carbon steel should last a good long while, and will definitely open up the possibilities on what these can be used on. I'll update if any issues pop up, but so far the 'boss' is pleased.
