I'm a hand surgeon and I use nice needle drivers regularly for work. I bought this one for use in sewing household repairs and they are actually quite good. I would be happy using them to do basic surgery even in the operating room. They have a great traction inset that prevent rotation. They will of course shred your needle up but usually when we operate we don't worry about roughing up the needle as they get thrown immediately out.
