Might be good oil, I don't know. Mine came today with about quarter of an inch of oil left in the jar. The dropper cap wasn't screwed on all the way. I hope I'm not expected to return an empty bottle to get my money back or get a full one as a replacement. Update: Citidel Black responded immediately, stating they'd look into the cause as well as made it right for me. The actual product is fantastic. I put what was left in the bottle on various blade steels and it leaves a nice, thin coat and is easy to wash off of my hands and metal scales. It also washes off nicely and didn't leave any evidence of itself in my jeans pocket from my oiled EDC. This is a five star product, I truly believe, when the dropper cap is working as intended. Also the packaging is beautifully done. I'm going to watch this space and when it seems this problem is worked out, I'm coming back for more. UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: I came back for more. Seems they've worked out the issue with spillage and must have cleared the warehouse of defective cap ones, or whatever the problem was. This may be my go-to blade steel protection from now on. I'm in the Midwest with a few D2 blades. I'll update the review in several weeks, after I've gone boating and bank fishing a bunch with my oiled D2 knives.

I currently have 3 knifes I'm taking care of and help a few of my friends out with their knife. I was looking for something that was low viscosity and both corrosion inhibitor and lubricator. I try to take care of my knifes and use them often at my work. So I wanted to get plenty that I wouldn't run out quickly. I work with hydraulic fluid and use that for a while to take care of my knifes. Citadel Black Knife Oil isn't a perfect oil, clearly its better used on basic kitchen wear then pock knifes. But Its a great lubricator and lower viscosity then the hydraulic fluid I would use. My knifes showed some clear improvement when it came to opening them after I applied the oil. It grips onto the knife well, however it grips onto the metal slightly to well. I find myself trying to spread it to coat the whole blade. Its better then hydraulic fluid with viscosity, but wasn't exactly what I was looking for. The dropper is a slight disappointment, it works well, but be careful to make sure its closed when done. Over all product I would say is a 4 star, but plus one for a actual good box that does well at storing the GLASS bottle.

This knife oil works fine. It comes in a little black card board box. It looks fancy like a bottle of cologne or something so you could even leave it laying on a counter if you wanted. The dropper makes things really easy to add a couple drops to each side of the blade. I couldn’t smell the oil at all but I didn’t sniff it close up either. Seems sentless. Good price and fast delivery. It will also last a long time as it is a decent size bottle.

I purchased this knife oil because I was having some rust issues with one of my pocket knives, and this oil seemed to do the trick. With a wipe using a clean cloth, a quick application with the handy included dropper and this oil makes my knives silky smooth and gives them a beautiful look as well and I can rest assure that they will last a very long time now. The oil itself absorbs very well into the knife, and only needed a couple drops on each side and because of that, this one bottle should last a very long time. The bottle is made of a very hefty glass, and the minimalistic design of the black box and bottle makes it easy to keep around in the kitchen cabinet. Although I originally purchased it for my pocket knives, I ended up using it on my kitchen knives too since it is food safe, and has no scent or taste that I could notice. Very high quality product in a very nice and easy to use bottle that makes this a definite staple in my home now.

Came in a beautiful glass bottle with dropper for precision. Works excellently and protects knives from rust. It is recommended to use on folding knife hinges to keep the knife in pristine condition for a long time.

Oil is a must have for any knife owner who cares about his/her investment. This is a great product to chose for this purpose, not only it'll get the job done, it will make the trivial process a bit more of an event just because how nicely packaged this oil is. Thank you.

Previously, I wrote a review on another cheaper kind of food-safe mineral oil which you can read by going onto my page. I just moved a few months back and thought I had lost my other mineral oil in all of the hubbub. I have since found the old one and continue to use it on my knives and tools, but, before I found it, I bought Citadel Black Knife Oil. I have to say right off that it is worth the price. Why? It does everything standard mineral oil does except that it leaves a thinner and longer-lasting coat. It actually even keeps out moisture if the tools you coat with it are left out in the morning dew for a few days. When you use a soft cloth to wipe off any excess oil, if you turn a knife or tool towards the light, you can actually see an extremely thin coat of quality oil all over the surface of the metal. I have since switched to using my other mineral oil on my knife handles as Citadel Black is apparently not supposed to be used on wood. From other reviews I have read, most people don't have trouble when they use it on wood, but there must be some reason they say not to use it for your knife scales. Lastly, since this oil spreads so thin, two drops will generally cover a large knife and it stays on the knife in a thin layer even after the knife is put into a leather sheath. As a last minute thought, I also like that the bottle Citadel Black comes in is made from thick glass. It is sturdy and I wouldn't bother worrying too much about breaking it. Also, the lid is a very functional glass dropper, so you don't have to worry about using too much oil or spilling it. I will definitely be buying this again as soon as this bottle runs out.

Used this quality knife oil, and a rust eraser to remove a century of damage.. Worked great.. I also treated all my knives with this, as I live in Hawaii with salty air.. It has stopped and rusting of my blades.. good stuff, great packaging, as the dropper and bottle are glass they cannot me with a great package that I have dropped several times and it is all perfect when I open it.. I feel like royalty when I open the packaging..

Clearly something different. I ordered it while considering something to preserve the expensive knife set I bought. I didn't even know about the existence of such product and now can't stop using it. Living in a humid surrounding, my knives catch up on rust easily. But with this oil, I was able to clear every stain and the set now looks like brand new. The shine makes the cutting so smooth and pleasant with aroma. If you have also never used one before, give this one a try. Easy to use and will definitely make knives last long.

I butcher my own animals by hand which is something that can get tedious. This tedious nature of the work often means a dull knife can lead to accidents as the more you have to try to force the knife through the animal the more you are likely to hurt yourself or any help you have at that moment. This has always meant touching up the blade between animals or anytime I take a break. This has always been something of an annoyance but we just took it as part of the job. Today when this oil arrived I already had several animals waiting to be butchered that I held off on so I would have something to test this oil with. Today when the oil arrived I sharpened the knife then used this oil on it before I went to work. Not only did it protect the edge on my blades it also made clean up much easier afterward. But here is the best part for me; it made my work so much easier that while on most days I only do 2 animals, today I did 4 before I was done. I even gave serious thought to doing one or two more. So it kept the knife sharper, longer, to the point that it made my work much easier than it's ever been.
