REAL WOOD -- Guarenteed child safe colors

This is a simple wooden toy, instead of plastics, since you know this is going in the baby's mouth. This smooth finished wood is natural, whereas plastics are anything but that. I trust wood, more than plastic any day. The wood is sustainably harvested wood, with a child safe finish. So it meets all EN, ASTM, and CPSIA standards. The six interlocking gears, are each painted a different color, with the color's name printed on each gear. Since this toy is appropriate for two years or older, I doubt they will learn to read the words right away, but you never know if you have a prodigy. If your child comes up, points to the words, and tells you what they are, then you're dealing with one smart kid. (Although the carton says 2+ for age, I'm sure many 18 month old babies would enjoy playing with this too.) You play with this toy two ways. First, you can put the interlocking gears together like a puzzle, so they fit back into the wooden frame it comes in. Or, you can move the gears in such a way, that each gear can stack on the other one. This takes a little bit of figuring out, fine motor control, and patience, so playtime with the BEGIN AGAIN GEAR STACKER will teach visual analysis, process thinking, and color recognition. For a real challenge, instead of stacking the gears largest (red) to smallest (purple), you can invert everything, stacking the gears using the purple piece for the foundation. Durable and open ended

We found this at fresh thyme and my 15mos old loves it. It's super durable and he likes figuring out different thing to do with it. You can stick it from big gear to little gear or vice versa. The opposite side also has the colors in French German and Spanish :)

Challenging and entertaining

As the days for our four Grandsons return to our home we continue to search out toys we are comfortable and safe. The BeginAgain Gear Stacker Stackable Rings that teach colors & languages appear to be a perfect example of what we and our oldest daughter look for. The colors are vibrant and attractive, encouraging young children to play with them. The interactive shapes offer challenges and should keep our youngest Grandson entertained for long periods of time. The construction material is extremely solid and allow them to be stacked or put together as a puzzle. We look forward to being able watch him play with them and if we are lucky he may even allow us to join him.

Nice, solid pieces

I love wooden toys for toddlers and children. Or even adults! This feels substantial, and comfortable to hold and maneuver. The color names are printed in English on one side, and the other languages on the other. Since colors seem to be one of the first things most early language learning programs cover, this seems like fantastic reinforcement.

Building fine motor skills

These are really fun vibrant colored rings. It's a great tool for building fine motor skills as well as teaching the different colors labeled on each ring. I like the fact that you can stack them upside down too. Overall great toy for 2+ aged kids.

A great challenging learning toy!

We gave this to our 2 1/2 year old grandson for Christmas. He loves puzzles, and his parents loved this one too. It can be used as a puzzle, and it can be stacked in an offset vertical column from large on bottom to small on top, as well as from small on bottom to large on top. It's a great learning toy -- teaching sizes, colors, sorting, balance and patience! It is made of wood and looks quite durable.

Tactile, entertaining and well made

This is a fun puzzle toy for any small child. It has large smooth pieces in vibrant colors that stack and build. Each one has the color labeled for extra fun. They stack together neatly when done. We are big fans of wood toys and this product is nicely done with smooth edges and a durable feel.

Somewhat Challenging as Stacker Toy or Nesting Puzzle

This BEGINAGAIN GEAR STACKER (Stackable Rings Teach Colors & Languages) is a high-quality wooden toddler toy. I wanted it for my husband to use in post-stroke hand therapy, because it requires fine motor skills to balance the "gear" rings into a pyramid (especially an inverted pyramid). You have to place the rings just right, or they will fall through the larger or smaller rings, so this is somewhat challenging as either a stacker toy or a therapy tool. I find the nesting puzzle aspect quite fascinating. It's easy to nest the rings in their box if you work in one direction by size (largest to smallest or smallest to largest). But it's tricky to replace them in the box if you assemble them out of size order. The rings teach a little bit of foreign language. On one side of each ring, the color name is printed in English (e.g., red). On the other side, the color name is printed in Spanish, German, and French (e.g., rojo, rot, rouge). I'm partial to wooden toddler toys, because they're so solid and substantial. There's something special about the experience of assembling a wood-block puzzle. This puzzle is well-made, uses child-safe finishes, and is very colorful.

Will last through the early years with ease

This stackable toy is perfect for baby or toddler. Would also make a great shower or birthday gift as this will last through those early years. Quality wooden pieces can get smacked around and the paint does not chip! Each cog is labeled with the corresponding color in several languages and is designed to nest inside of one another. Such a quality design and construction, we're sure this is going to last for a couple more years before we pass it on.
