I used this gauge to double check my Technics overhang gauge after installing the Ortofon 2M Blue on my Technics SL-23 turntable. It's simple to use and an inexpensive way to be sure your set-up is dead on. It's a little hard to see, but if you try to view it from a number of angles you should be able to get it done...my eyesight isn't what it used to be, which makes a lot of things a challenge.

If installing a new cartridge you may want to check your turntable manual or possibly cartridge manual and do a rough overhang adjustment first. For my cartridge that already came attached to a headshell this was specified as a distance from the stylus tip to the back of the headshell (not including the insertion tube) as 49mm to 52mm. After this go to: https://www.hudsonhifi.com/pages/instructions and watch the video: How To Set Up Your Turntable Cartridge. The website is also conveniently printed on the protractor. After seeing what you to do through the above video instructions, the mirrored protractor was easy to use. The mirror version's lines do raise above the glass slightly and can create some difficulty for centering the stylus, and the mirrored lines can be visually confusing. But these are not really significant issues. I don't know how the mirrored version would compare to the high contrast version but I would think that either one will work just fine. One last note. If you have a permanently attached cartridge as part of the tonearm, adjustments are not possible and a protractor will only allow you to see how badly the alignment is without being able to fix it.

Hudson Hi-FI is an awesome company, easy to work with, fast shipping, and great prices. I purchased Hudson's Hi-Fi Turntable Phonograph LP Phono Cartridge Stylus Alignment Mirrored Protractor (V2) to dial in my vintage turntable and brand new AT150MLX cartridge. I have used many alignment tools over the years, and this one is superb. If you are an audiophile with expensive gear and the desire for perfect stylus tracking and alignment, then just go buy one of these. How to: First adjust your stylus overhang and make sure that's right.. Then you just fit the protractor over the record spindle, position the tone arm cartridge over the outer most grid on the mirrored protractor. Adjust the cartridge position to make sure the cartridge is adjacent to the grid lines (with the stylus centered in the bullseye), then check with the inner most protractor grid. Keep making minor adjustments until the tonearm/cartridge are as close to perfect as you possibly can. Simple and takes 5 minutes.

Some reviewers of this and similar items have commented negatively on the mirrored surface, but I can say from experience now that this thing is far superior to those paper scales that can force the user to twist and turn, or even use a hand-held mirror, to see the mounted cartridge from all angles. And the smooth surface poses no danger to delicate stylus tips. The cost for such a simple device might be a bit high, but considering that so many people opt for cheap or free devices, a manufacturer does need to charge enough to cover design and production expenses and make a profit.

The Phono Cartridge Stylus Alignment Protractor Tool is a great investment. When you compare the price of the protractor to the price of your stylus & records, you should be able to conclude this is a good investment. The smooth surface of the the mirrored protractor helps insure you do not damage your stylus while aligning. It also makes it superior to the free paper protractors as it is easier & more accurate when reading it & positioning your cartridge. I definitely recommend investing in the Mirrored Phono Cartridge Stylus Alignment Protractor Tool to protect your stylus & records from needless wear.

I love Hudson HiFi products! I’ve totally gotten back into the Vinyl experience and with an ever growing record collection, it’s great that someone out there is providing all the tools we need to get the most out of our records. I recently installed a new turntable cartridge and wasn’t certain it was tracking right. The sound was off and I figured rather than guess, I purchased the Hudson HiFi alignment protractor tool. Within 5 minutes, I had a perfectly aligned cartridge and the music from my records just popped right out with amazing clarity. Huge difference. Thank you!

This item is a must have for making sure your cartridge is lines up properly and is pretty easy to use as well as see the lines on it to make sure it's accurate. It's made of a nice durable piece of plexi like material so it will last a lifetime unlike some of the paper and even cardboard cut out ones I've seen out there. You never can be too precise when it comes to keeping your record collection in great condition as well as your needles.

I just bought an Audio-Technica AT-LP120 . I wanted to trust that the cartridge stylus was aligned properly but I just had to check for my own piece of mind. I found that it wasn't when I checked with this protractor. After watching videos on how to do this it looked a little intimidating. It actually wasn't. I was able to adjust perfectly. I found that the mirrored version was helpful.

However, Hudson HiFi sent me a replacement, a platter mat that has the protractor on it. This was even nicer than the one I originally ordered, and fit fine. They took care of me so I changed the review and rating. Five stars easily. Thanks Hudson HiFi.

For those of you who have a turntable that has a cartridge that can be removed it’s important that this cartridge be aligned correctly you cannot assume that the factory aligned it correctly it needs to be checked and this is where that little device comes in it’s called a protractorAnd run one end slips over the turntable spindle While you place the needle on the pattern at the other end you do this until the needle lines squarely on the crosshairs which means you may need to adjust the cartridge to get it to be at that point when you do your cartridge is correctly aligned which means your needle is not wearing your record nor is the needle it’s self getting incorrectly worn
