My 2009 Mini Cooper Clubman S (R55) was due for a plug change, and the last time I did the change, my older spark plug socket kept disconnecting after screwing in the new plugs. While I was able to retrieve the socket, it made the install of 4 new spark plugs more difficult than it should be. When I ordered my new spark plugs, I also ordered the ATLIN Thin Wall Spark Plug Socket 12 point 14mm. The ATLIN socket did the job, and fit my 3/8" drive. This socket was nicer than my previous one in that it did not disconnect after installing and torquing the new spark plugs, and the nice thing is there is also a small plastic retainer inside the socket to prevent plugs from falling or slipping out when you install your new spark plugs. The build quality was nice, and this will be a keeper now for my auto tool box!

Made the mistake of ordering a comparably-priced socket that was crude by comparison. Was pleased to see the quality in this after I bought it. Have had plug sockets with magnets (broke when dropped) and rubber inserts (too hard to remove plug, or rubber came out of socket with plug). This holding method (5-prong springs design) holds sparkplug well but releases without a fight. Plug fits into socket with correct clearance. Socket is smooth and well finished, without pits. Compares easily with Mac, MATCO, SK. Socket accommodates extensions with ball-type locking device to secure it to your extension so you don't lose it down-hole and have to fish it out.

Socket worked perfectly with no problems. Although made in China, the quality seems good and the plug retainer mechanism worked good as well. By design/necessity the socket walls are very thin. Because another reviewer commented that the socket cracked after a while I bought two of them to have a spare on hand so I would not be stranded if it did crack.

Owning a Mini Cooper regardless of the model comes with loads of extra costs with the maintenance and parts that break on these cars. Along with that when parts break if you want to fix things yourself there is nearly always a specialty tool needed or sometimes you must conjure up a magician or sacrifice a lamb. However, this was not the case this time to change the spark plugs that had the special 14 mm design. This economical purchase from Atlin banished away the dark spirits of any bad juju mechanic spirits. The socket hugs the spark plug nicely without making it impossible to pull or push the new plug in. This was a great purchase. And to think the local auto parts store didn't have a socket in stock...would have been 2-3 days to get it and was three times the price. Grand Slam Atlin!

I would give this spark plug socket more than five stars if I could. The problem with spark plug sockets is always that the spark plug won't stay in the socket. Some of them use a rubber grommet, which can become dislodged, and can get in the way of the spark plug. It is better to have nothing at all than the rubber grommet, because you can always use a pair of needle nosed pliers, or some other improvised tool, to pull out the used plug once it is completely loose. But this socket uses small metal springs to grasp the plug, and it is brilliant. I don't know how long the little springs will last, but even if they break long before I would expect them to, it still doesn't matter, because this socket doesn't cost any more than the less desirable ones!

Great product delivered in a timely manner. I was concerned if the socket would “hold” the spark plug for extraction and re-installation of new since the well is deep and almost straight down. The socket not only held the 12 point BMW spark plug and extracted it without coercion it also easily held the aftermarket 6 point plug for re-instillation. I would definitely recommend and will buy other products from Atlin without hesitation.

Tool worked perfectly. Was able to insert, hand thread in my BMW's (N54) sparkplug without any issue and pull the socket out just fine. I did not run into the problem of the socket holding on to the spark plug and popping off my ratchet extension. Spark-plug itself broke off inside the cylinder, but that is an issue entirely unrelated to the socket. Either torque wrench is out of spec or I received a knock-off Bosch that broke under 15lb-ft of torque....

A well made forging, the internal flat spring plug gripping fingers hold the plug well for both extraction an insertion. The body is 18.3 mm diameter, it is 64 mm long; the drive end of the socket has a 17 mm hex so it could be driven with a socket for a slight "swivel" effect. High quality, nicely finished, a great deal!

I got this a couple of months ago and finally used it. First of all, I received the product on time and in good shape. I love the way it is designed. For my other cars, I use the typical 5/8 socket with the rubber seal. The problem is that it squeezes the plug so tight that it is hard to lift up the socket after the plug is tighter. It gets stuck inside the spark plug's well. The Atlin's design is so good that it catches and releases with the right force. Overall, it is a quality product. I recommend this to everyone.

My first experience with a 14mm thin wall spark plug socket did not go so well. The socket's rubber insert did not hold the spark plug for removal or installation. Those problems can be overcome with a bit of creativity, but made the job twice as long. ATLIN's socket uses an internal metal spring to hold the spark plug in place which is a much better idea than rubber.
