My life is complete now. A string trimmer that actually works. I was really conflicted if I should have gotten the 20v or splurge and get the 60v. I have 10 acres with tons and tons of landscaping. I am so glad I went with the 60v because I won’t have to worry about being under powered if the need arises. In fact, I have already gotten in to some waist deep grass in my ditch and this thing powered right through it. However, this brings me to my first and probably only complaint about the trimmer... My first evening using this I spent more time replacing the line, removing the reel, fishing out the line, and overall just wasting time with the stupid line setup. It is among the easiest line bump feed that I’ve used, and it still sucks. The following day I purchased the uglyhead (pivotrim knockoff) which works amazing! It saves so much line and the time of drinking with the stock reel setup. So, if you went that route, factor in another $30 to get this. The packaging for this system doesn’t mention DeWalt 60v specifically, but once you remove the stock head setup (including the shaft) it leaves you with a single bolt threaded portion which this bolts right to. I have tons of goat fencing which tends to be super tough on any whacker line, but after my modification I simply love the dewalt purchase. The battery is really cool as it can be used with your 20v dewalt tools as it steps down the voltage automatically. I’m thrilled with the purchase as I don’t have to use a gas trimmer ever again. No more special mixed gas, no start after sitting over the winter, no more burning my forearm on the motor, etc etc. You’ll love it. Get cha one!

Although a little on the heavy side and quite long this thing really rocks! It has a lot of power and plows through heavy grass and soft brush like a hog. If you plan to mow brush or strip leaves from branches, etc, step up to the .095 string. The .080 does a fine job in even heavy grass but brush stock larger than a pencil, fence posts, and stone walls tend to eat up the .080 string. I mowed for about an hour on the low speed setting and throttled back on the variable-speed trigger quite a bit when trimming grass around trees so as not to beat up the tree bark. The only down side so far is loading string. It's a pain. I wish it had preloaded string cartridges but that might not be cost-effective for double string trimmers. Anyway, I'm very pleased with this trimmer and I now have another battery and charger in my arsenal of DeWalt 20 and 60 volt tools. I think the chain saw will be my next purchase.

Received my trimmer today . Let me start by saying that trimming my lawn is and always will be work that I don't like. But knowing that I will never have to pull on a gas motor again makes me very happy. My lawn was two weeks over due for trimming. I have a 100'x150' lot. I trim all for edges. I have 5 trees a 14'x14' shed that I trim all around. And 3 sides of my house. I edg trim 50' of drive way. After 20 to 25 min. of that, the battery has all 3 lights still lit. So I started down the street on the ditch. It has 2' tall weeds and on the low setting I couldn't stop the motor. Not sure why there is a high setting. Found no reason for it. This trimmer is everything that my gas STHIL fs 44 is. I have no regrets on this purchase at all. No more old gas I this guy's shead.

the 60v max has been a great system for me, started out with the grinder for work and fabrication (albeit, a 2ah battery is limited, great for short jobs!) so when I saw the dewalt weed wacker and chainsaw, i originally bought the chainsaw- but they weren't going to be shipping for awhile so i changed my order to weedwacker, great choice... this thing trims the entire property, havent had to refill the spool but even if it does go through alot, thats a better deal than oil/gas and constant maintenance cleaning air filters. weed wacked right after a light rain, still worked well

I'm loving this trimmer so far. I had a nearly 20 year old 2 stroke straight shaft trimmer. I was having problems getting and keeping it running and finally gave in and figured I'd try battery operated. So pleased with this unit. I have several DeWalt tools and a nearby DeWalt service center, so if I need service, it's nearby. So far I haven't needed it with any of the tools except for one battery that I bought separately. I went with the 60 volt model because it will work with my 20v max tools as well, and I have some tools that could benefit from the large battery. It comes with a 4 amp charger, that charges the battery quickly. I don't have a ton of trimming to do, but the battery only loses about 1 bar for 20 minutes worth of run time. It is a powerful trimmer, actually stronger than my gas trimmer. The head is easy to reload. The original line was pretty good, but I'm using some yellow stuff from HD now and it works well too. I don't have good success with any string trimmer edging sidewalks. Once I cut mine back with a bladed edger, it's actually not to bad. The shield on this one is rather narrow, which I suppose makes it easy to trim around posts, but I would prefer it to be bigger. I've started to wear pants now when doing yard work because of the strength of the motor and lack of shield coverage. It has no shoulder strap mounting. I wish it did. I am tall at 6'6" and it gets straining to hold this in position for the short time I need to use it. If the D handle was taller it might be easier. My old trimmer had about the same reach, but a shoulder strap which helped. It was heavier though.

Alot of power!!! I was very impressed with it. I have a small yard but I used to mow commercially and used Stihl, Red Max, and Echo weedeaters. This Dewalt one is heavy feels very sturdy and is powerful! Not quite as powerful as a gas one but very close. It is pretty quiet! The biggest down side is that the string only goes to a 15inch diameter and the sheild is kind of small (I think you can order a bigger one though). I think if someone could increase the string to 18inches and have a wider shield it could be a fantastic commercial asset. The batteries are large! I've used it on my small city lot 6 times and the battery still has 2/3 charge left. Recap, as a home owner=great buy... As a commercial tool, possible but needs a couple things to make it great

I was looking for a replacement for a 2-stroke gas trimmer that I had. I don't have a huge yard now, and I was thinking I could just get one of the cheaper Black and Decker plug-in or battery powered trimmers, but since I like to do things overkill, and because I'm partial to DeWalt, I figured I'd give this a shot. POWER It probably has more power than my old gas trimmer. The benefit of the electric motor is that you get basically instant throttle (potentiometer?) response and immense torque even at low speeds. It has 2 settings, low and high. For my average yard, I kept it in low, and even then, half throttle did basically everything. Only for cutting through tough stuff (small saplings etc) did I have to squeeze it to full power. I tried it on high mode a few times just for fun, but I didn't come across anything that necessitated the high setting. EASE OF USE Just charge the battery and go. No starting, no gas. I put about 2 hours of use on it the first time, and the battery dipped down to 2/3 bars on the pack. I didn't find it to be too heavy, comparable to a gas trimmer. My one minor quibble would be that the shield is a bit tiny, so yeah, you probably get more junk on you compared to others, but you shouldn't be wearing your Sunday best anyways doing yard work. In addition, the battery pack is compatible with a range of DeWalt stuff, so I might end up replacing a few corded tools as well. SUMMARY Definitely a capable tool. Beats any gas trimer I've had. Makes quick work of basically everything. Pros could definitely use this, although you'd probably have to buy and extra battery or two for all-day use.

Fantastic Weedeater, Goodbye Gas. Got this string trimmer in from Amazon 2 days ago and today was the first day to try it out and all I can say is WOW. We have 10 acres but I only use the weedeater on about 1 acre around the house and fences. This trimmer has more power than our gas powered Echo and does a wonderful job. I ran it on the low setting which has plenty of power and was able to get the areas done within the 1 acre and still had 1 bar on the battery. Smooth, Quite with plenty of power. The battery does take a couple of hours to charge with the included charger. Comes in a large Dewalt box that is 45" Tall and was delivered by our regular mailman. I've added some pictures showing the factory box and everything that's included. I'm going to get the blower next. Buy one, you will love it.

5 stars does not mean it's perfect. Pros: powerful. I followed the directions and charged the battery before I tried to use it for the first time (it says right in the instructions that that is what you should do to ensure battery longevity). I used it on low power on a small property that didn't need much trimming. The battery still presents as full. That said, the trimming that needed doing was simple for the installed string (smaller diameter of the two options) to handle. Just for fun I turned it up to high power and cut through some suckering offshoots near the base of a tree (maybe 1/4 inch diameter); again, no problem. And high power really is high power. I've never handled a commercial gas-powered trimmer. This thing was definitely more powerful than any home-use gas trimmer I've used. It's quiet and the only thing I smell is the pheromones from angry plants--no gas and oil fumes to pollute my space. Cons: the initial string coil was tight and stuck to itself in places--probably wouldn't have been an issue, but it may have caused the feed function not to work smoothly. I know because before I got stuck outside in the hot sun trying to change the string and expanding my vocabulary, I wanted to do a test run of changing the string. Glad I did. It's...annoying. But then it's been annoying on every single string trimmer I've ever used. The guard is narrow, but if you wear jeans and work boots that's not too much of an issue. Don't use it without safety glasses though, especially if you plan on using it to edge (the instructions say don't use it to edge!).

My wife and I mow/weed-eat 6 acres, and I've lost count of how many different gas powered string trimmers we've gone through. After trying the WORX GT, (and returning it the next day) I decided battery powered was not the route to go. It was years before I would try another battery powered trimmer.... However, owning a HUGE arsenal of Dewalt 20v Max tools, I thought I'd see if they had any lawn tools available. 60v that also works with my 20v tools! REALLY? This thing is the REAL DEAL! ●TONS of power! ● Looong battery life! ●Great auto-feed! ●Well balanced! ●Fast charging! I love this thing!
