Excellent for on-the-go global wifi service
I waited 6 months before writing this review so I could get some experience with this item. I teach college classes online so connectivity everyday is very important. I also like to travel. My first use of this was in the mountains of Pennsylvania. I was pleased to get fast and reliable service on my camping trip. Last week I went to Costa Rica. Once again, this item did not disappoint. Even on a moving tour bus driving between the San Jose and the beach, I was able to get service (once we passed a mountain range. I am very pleased with the Glocalme 3G. In a month I'll be in Italy and Greece and will rely on it again. Great product! The only thing that is slightly odd is the strange syntax (and even one spelling error) in the menu which tarnishes. With all the native English speakers living and working in China, I can't for the life of me figure out why they can't just find one of them to proof-read some things before production.

A Must for International Travelers
We purchased this just prior to a 20 day international trip, covering 5 countries in Europe. We evaluated both enhanced calling packages and this device, and settled on this. Overall, our experience was very good with this. We could connect to Wifi in every country. It was invaluable for getting GPS driving (and walking) instructions, working with email, staying in touch with work, and posting updates for our family to see our trip. The device seemed to be able to easily get through 8 hours of fairly continuous usage, and the backup battery was helpful for keeping my phone charged. Both of our phones allowed texting and phone calls over Wifi - so we were able to use our phones without incurring roaming fees. Highly recommended for international trips. Here are some other things to know: * Your phone can gobble up data fast. Over 20 days, I ended up using a total of 4GB of data (and that's only because I started to conserve much better after the first week). Even then, we easily went through 100MB every hour that we had it on during the final few days. Familiarize yourself with your phones settings to conserve data before using the device, and power it off when not in use. * This seems to tap into local 3G/4G networks to pick up an internet connection. So it is subject to the same signal availability as a phone. We encountered many dead spots during our trip. But we did find that, when on a river cruise for 7 days, this device provided more reliable and faster Wifi than the boat did.

Great device, very flexible, made my trip super easy!
I will admit to being a bit leery of data leakage reviews when I ordered this, but it seemed like the best of the options available -- plus, the ability to use two local SIM slots as well as the "cloud" one for the glocalme service? Seemed like it was worth the risk. It was! This was a fantastic way for my group to stay connected while we were on the road through a number of different countries in Europe. I got one multi-country data package and ended up using around ~120MB a day between two phones. (I'd shut down the hotspot at night to force my devices to use hotel WiFi.) Here's the issue with data leakage: smartphones make it easy to disable data-hungry services on cellular networks, but few or none have a good way to limit bandwidth on wifi networks. The assumption on all of them is that WiFi is the high bandwidth/unlimited option. It is hard to tune mobile devices to limit unintentional WiFi usage, but THAT (and only that!) is why reviews are complaining about using up bandwidth packages unintentionally. Do a good job of tuning your mobile devices to avoid background/unintentional data usage, and you'll have no problem. That is equally true for this device as well as any other one.

This new model is a no-brainer to own
Executive summary: on a recent multi-country European trip, a co-traveler constantly drooled over my G3, which I was using to connect multiple devices while she was paying Verizon $10 per day for not-always-reliable roaming cellular access on one phone. Details: This just works. You link your G3 to a GlocalMe account, deposit money and use it to buy a data package valid for the country you're traveling to. Then you just boot up the device. It finds and connects to a local cell network and creates a password-protected WiFi hot spot you can log into with your phone, tablet, laptop, etc. You're good to go. The G3 is my second GlocalMe; I bought it via an upgrade offer to replace a G1S, and this model fixes every significant issue with the first-generation version. In particular, the battery no longer overheats and its life has doubled, the interface is totally redone to be user-friendly, and it only sips your data package (more on that below). The G3 connects to 4G networks where they exist, and GlocalMe has come out with a wide variety of single-country and regional data packages that can cut airtime costs by 50% or more over the worldwide package. To me, owning a GlocalMe is now a no-brainer for anyone who wants to stay connected at a reasonable cost during foreign travel. I've used the G3 in three European countries, with no major problems. The first time you boot it up in a country, it takes a couple of minutes to connect to the local network; subsequent boots in that country take under a minute. It's important to realize that the G3 depends on connecting to a local cellular network in every country, so it only gives 4G speeds where GlocalMe's in-country partner network supports them. Data usage: Some of the reviews mentioning data usage can be misleading, because you don't know how the reviewers are using their data. We kept two phones constantly connected while we were awake, occasionally added a tablet, and 1 GB of data lasted about a week. But to save data (and money), we tweaked the phone and tablet settings not to do automatic app updates or constant email syncing, and kept our background apps and automatic notifications to the minimum necessary. Streaming burns lots of data; we didn't do any. And Google Maps is also a data hog, so I closed it whenever it wasn't in active use. By way of contrast, a friend whose phone wasn't tweaked connected to our G3 and ran through 500MB of data in less than a day. How much data you use is pretty much up to you. A couple of minor glitches, but none worth dinging a star: (1) Twice during our trip, the screen interface defaulted to the (apparently native) Chinese language for no discernible reason. By following the icons (More / Language) I restored it to English. (2) The G3 lost connection to the local cellular networks a couple of times, but just notified with a message box on its screen. I only noticed the lost connection when I tried and failed to be able to use a connected device, which was still showing a wi-fi connection. Both times, a G3 reboot quickly reconnected to the cell network. Finally, two improvements that are still needed: (1) You should be able to select which data package to use. Currently, you must burn through data packages in the order you buy them, which can waste a lot of money. If you have a worldwide 1GB data package (Cost: 30 Euros) and go to Germany for a week, you can't buy and use a single-country German package (Cost: 7 Euros) until you've used up the worldwide package. That doesn't make sense. (2) The G3 should notify you (preferably via its phone app) when a data package runs low, so you can buy a new one without having to regularly check its screen for the amount of remaining data. The previous model got four stars; it worked, but had several problems and idiosyncrasies. This one just works, and works well.

Totally worth not paying the phone Co for their overpriced packages.
Arrived Wed, activated Thursday, automatically with 1.1 GB of credit. Used in Canada over the weekend. Worked without a hitch. Yes, you have to be diligent about your usage. Turn it off when you aren't using it overnight. Setup all your devices for data saving mode. It is amazingly quick how you can burn thru data.

Very satisfactory experience replacing original Glocalme from two years ago.
As advertised, it just works and is a big step up from the original Glocalme device that I used for traveling two years ago. It appears to be much faster using 4G than the 3G original. I was also able to activate this device and deactivate the older device without losing the credit I had in my account. Very much appreciated the ease of transferring to the U2.

GLOCAL MOBILE DEVICE
I don't normally write reviews but I figured I should start. I had this device for a few months now and it has been great. I get constant wifi with it. However It does take a few minutes to turn on so I usually turn it on before I leave my house and get into my vechile which is where I normally use it. It can be a little confusing to set up but if you follow the directions you should be fine. The battery life is amazing. It last about 15 hours. I also love the different packages I usually only get the 1. Gb data thats plenty for me. I know it may vary from person to person. So if you are looking for a portable wifi device this is a must. The only issue that I have is with charging it but I think it's more with my computer it won't stay on and it has to charge usb so once my computer turns off it stops charging. So it takes a while to charge . Other then that great product.

Perfect, just what the traveler might need!
No worries device! Before I traveled with tons of Sim Cards from multiple countries. Now I forgot completely about those. This is 3rd device that I purchased, and my friends and family ask for more. It worked for my friends and family in Brazil, Germany, Spain, Vietnam, China and we're gonna travel more and more! Do not trust people who tell that traffic is over used or cheated - this can happen if you do not know how to avoid traffic overuse! You need to turn off all the background content refresh, iCloud or other pictures sharing and do things to prevent traffic overuse and not to blame the provider of traffic overuse. For exmple if you synchronize 500 MB files in your Dropbox or similar things in the background... Very highly recommended. To the Glocalme I wish they cover all the world because still there are countries to add. Wish also to make email announcements about adding new countries/packages to the customers.

Forget sim cards and local cell phones, this product is great!
I used this product in Canada while on vacation. I have a Galaxy S8 Boost Mobile (USA) phone that doesnt have international options for phone use under the provider. Glocalme was very easy to setup and acted as a wifi device where ever I went. I was able to use Google Maps and browse the internet no problem. I just needed to be aware of avoiding the consumption of unnecessary data so I actually brought my older Virgin (US) Galaxy S5 phone with me as well to Canada with most apps that would consume data uninstalled instead of dealing with turning app data on and off on the S8. One just has to be mindful of data usage and the Glocalme device showed me this info no problem. The family had three android devices connected to the wifi no problem and I would shut the portable wifi off when not using it. It's a great device that I look forward to using in future international travels with all the data packages one can purchase! Forget sim cards and local cell phones, this product is great!

Easy to set up; easy to use!
Very easy to set up - make sure you register the unit and set up your account etc before going on your trip as it needs to be registered in order to work. As soon as we landed in Japan it only took a few minutes to boot up and then we were connected to the internet! Bam easy as that! When we were running low on data it was very easy to top up. Brilliant gadget that we will use when travelling overseas.
