Fast shipping (came earlier than expected). Easy to use (just fill with oil - took most of the provided bottle). The valve accepted a standard R134a line without needing an adapter. I used it to evacuate a fridge and worked well. Very happy with purchase.

Great machine

This pump worked great. On calibrated manifold gauges it pulled 29.8 psi. You can't here it run from three feet away.. I have done 3 cars with it so far and have run it over 5 hours between the 3 cars without it shutting off or overheating. Maybe the difference between how i use it and some other people use it is i don't use the vacuum oil it comes with. I learned that you need to use the best quality oil you can buy for it and i buy the best i think there is. I don't know if amazon allows you to mention brand oil names here on this site. For the money it is going to be hard to beat. The instructions say's it has a filler plug for the oil to be put in but this one just has the red cap you unscrew from the top and install the oil. The instructions are not clear on how far up to put the oil. I fill to the bottom line and run it 5 minutes, then i fill it half way between the bottom line and the top line. It never used any oil working on all three cars i did. Now i will change the oil. It never got so hot that i couldn't just lay my hand on it. Great little machine.

these are perfect, but if you're a woodworking wino

I bought this vacuum pump to stabilize wood turning blanks and degas wine. The pump arrived before my vacuum pot, so I decided to setup it up for degassing wine. My one and only criticism of the unit is the two fitting for attaching a vacuum line. They are a 1/4" Flare and 1/2" Acme. If you're a refrigeration guy, these are perfect, but if you're a woodworking wino, they can be problematic. I wanted to end up with a 3/8" nipple fitting for a hose. After a couple a trips to hardware stores and purchasing the wrong fittings, I became frustrated and removed the fitting from the pump, took it to the store, handing it to the clerk and told him what I wanted. After much digging around, the clerk came up with a variety of fittings that when combined would accomplish my goal. One thing I noticed when I removed the fitting from the pump, was the thread sealant. Instead of typical semi soft pipe putty, the sealant was hard like glue. When I reinstalled the pump's fitting, I used Teflon tape. I assembled my degassing rig and fired it up. The vacuum gauge read a maximum vacuum of about 25 Hg. Fine for wine but not ideal for stabilizing wood. The next day my vacuum pot arrived. It came with all the fittings and vacuum gauge installed. All that needed to be done was to attach the vacuum line directly to the 1/4" flare fitting on the pump. No adapter needed. I fired up the vacuum pot (after changing the pump oil) and watched as it maxed out at about 27 Hg of vacuum. Acceptable but not great. Out of curiosity, I put a few drops of oil around the pump's fitting were it screws into the pump body. Within a few minutes, the oil had disappeared. Before doing the next batch of wood, I removed the fitting, cleaned the threads with a pick and wire brush, and reinstalled the fitting using 5 minute epoxy as thread sealant. The next time I ran the pump, it pulled a 29+ Hg vacuum that eventually got past 29.5 Hg. At my elevation of 825' above sea level, that's about as good of a vacuum as you can get. I am on my 5th batch of wood and have not changed the oil in the pump. It's still pulling a near perfect vacuum. Speaking of oil, when the pump is running, an oil mist is emitted from the exhaust port. I would avoid breathing it. Rather than wear a filter mask I simply put the pump outside. The good news is, when the pump reaches maximum vacuum (and there are no significant vacuum leaks) the mist diminishes almost completely. I still run the pump outside. In cold weather, I keep the vacuum pot inside and run the power cord and vacuum line under the garage door to the pump outside. The cold air helps keep the pump cool during operation. In 50+ degree temps, the pump gets pretty warm after running for a couple hours or more...not burning hot, but uncomfortably warm (which is normal). Overall, I'm very pleased with this pump, especially at this price.

Time to repair your car's AC? Get this kit!

I'm an avid DIYer so when my truck's AC compressor failed, I wanted to tackle it myself so I bought this gauge and vacuum pump set. Be sure to fill the pump's oil before using (included, along with instructions). After replacing all of the mechanical parts (you've got to replace the condensor, receiver/drier, and orifice tube too, after flushing the lines) I hooked everything up, the gauges worked as expected, and it pulled a solid vacuum. The only snag was the freon can tap - it must have had an intenal defect because it wouldn't allow freon to flow from the can. Luckily I had a cheapo tap/gauge combo from the box store and was able add freon and finish the job. I emailed the company via Amazon explaining what happened and they responded early the second business day, stating that they had already shipped a new tap, and they also refunded my $5 for the wasted can of freon. Things happen and sometimes parts fail, so it's great to see a company stand behind their product and do the right thing. You can't go wrong with this kit!

Pump worked great. Used this with a set of gauges (ATD Tools 3694 Dual Brass Deluxe A/C Manifold Gauge Set) to prepare and fill my auto AC. This came with everything needed to connect to the gauges. It also comes with oil to fill the pump. I've only used it twice to put a vacuum on the AC system (running for about 25 minutes each time), but so far so good. Seems like a quality product for a DIY'er like me.

Did the work of far more expensive units

Used this pump the next day after arrival(which was on time). Took about 10 minutes to reach 29.5 to 30 in. of vacuum. Ran it for about 30 more min. Shut it off and checked to see if system ( 06 Dodge Ram diesel) was holding vacuum for 15 to 20 min. Then ran pump another 30 minutes. No problems at all. Pumped performed perfectly.

Pump worked very well . It pulled down to 30 in just a few minutes. I ran it for half hour and then left it for another half hour. It still had a vacuum so I put the R134 in. I have borrowed a pump from a pro shop a few times in the past and this one worked just as well.

Lemons may exist - mine worked great

I read the negative and average reviews. I was really concerned about buying a potential $60 paperweight. I used this way too many times in the past two weeks and am very satisfied with the results. Drop test - passed. Multiple uses - pass. Recommend - yes. I had an accumulator’s schrader valve stick which caused a leak. I have tools to replace the valve while leaving the system pressurized, but this required the accumlaotor to accept the valve and the replacement schrader valve to also be good. Fail and fail. Anyways enter the replacement accumulator and first attempt. The pump worked great and pulled a perfect vacuum. The motor was hotter than expected, but no issues. Charged the system and everything was roses and smiles. Two hours later and after a loud sound of rushing air, I discovered a spring fitting on the new accumulator failed and I lost my charge. Reset the connection and it passed the pull apart test. It appeared solid. Vacuum number 2 - worked great. I turned after pulling the vacuum and promptly sent the pump off the radiator falling to the ground. I got lucky with no damage to the pump or gauges. The gauge line sort of softened the fall. I began to recharge the system. One can in and I had to deal with another issue. Pop goes the same spring connection. Lesson one: don’t buy crap aftermarket AC stuff. Poor quality control. Bought a Motocraft and installed it. (Fit perfect) Vacuum number 3 and everything is still working great. The pump ran for over three hours in 95+ degree weather over the three vacuums. No noticeable oil loss. Solid vacuum. Met my needs and then some. I suspect there will be lemons in any process, but this one worked very well for my needs.

good vacuum for my AC

Nice hard vacuum. I have an air powered vacuum, but it couldn't ever get a vacuum low enough for AC. This one pulls hard (I did have to fix up a couple connections to remove all leaks).
