So far so good! Used it for several hours last Sunday and have to say it is a welcome addition to the yard maintenance arsenal. Previously I was using a reciprocating saw (like a Sawzall) with a wood blade for bigger cuts and a manual pole saw/rope lopper for taller, tough to reach cuts. This definitely handles the thicker 6-8" cuts much faster than the reciprocating saw plus you have the function of added reach. The cam used to lengthen and shorten the pole was strong and simple... length adjustments were a breeze. Go ahead and buy some additional chainsaw oil (bar and chain oil) now as the small (4oz ?) bottle was almost completely used in the first day for me; fortunately I had finished my job but it would be a real bummer to be in the middle of a project and have to stop as a lack of oil can ruin the saw. If the saw starts to chatter a bit make sure too much slack isn't in the chain (simple turn of a screw will fix it) and make sure to take a break to periodically clean out the saw dust that can build up near the gear head as it kicks back and mixes with the oil. I will try to update review as I "log" more hours on the tool.

Not quite as portable as my Ryobi 18v, but faster and more powerful for jobs close to the house. Was very pleased with how easy it was to cut up these 10-11" diameter logs.

Surprisingly powerful and useful for an electric saw. I've run chainsaws my whole life so it's not like I know nothing about real chainsaws...but I originally thought these were kind of a gimmick, or something for 'grandma' to use, kind of like an electric snowblower or something. My dad bought one and I used it at his place and was very pleasantly surprised. Ended up buying the same one, the Sun Joe 8amp, but in green. These saws rock! Highly recommended if you have lots of tree limbs within an extension cord distance from your house.

This pole saw is awesome! I live in South Florida and have many palm trees. I got estimates to trim them and they wanted $50/tree. I got this pole saw and a ladder and trimmed them with easy. The saw gets a bit warm but I give it a few minutes between fronds and I didn't have any issues. This saw has paid for itself in the first 10 min of use. I like that the blade articulates, makes cutting much easier.

Perfect for clearing the dead wood from around the house. Here in the Southwest US trees don't really get to be so thick so 10" is perfect for anything on my property. Just add 100' extension cord. I do have a couple suggestions though. This saw comes with oil, buy more. It's a small bottle to get you started but it's automatic lubing and at the end of a long day you'll have used most of the bottle. Also, watch the chain tension. The first day I needed to adjust the blade about 6 times. Now it's stretched and I can use it an entire day and not adjust it.

I'm very happy with this chain saw. I bought it back in November when it was on sale, but just got around to using it this past weekend. It made quick work of some pretty large limbs (8-10" diameter). This saw seems to be decent quality for seasonal residential use, and should serve me well for years to come. If you're a professional or own a large property with lots of tree's, you'd probably want to invest in a higher quality tool. Assembly was easy, basically just have to install the bar and chain. Just make sure you put the chain in the right direction, or it won't cut well. All of the tools required for assembly are included, along with a pair of safety glasses and a set of wall mount brackets (nice touch). The one thing that's not included is bar/chain oil, so make sure to pick some up and don't use the saw without it. The last time I downed a tree, I used a gas chainsaw and ladders (it was a tough job), but I found that working from the ground with this telescoping pole chain saw, was much faster and safer. I highly recommend it for your average home owner with a couple of tree's to prune each season.

I have significant experience with both gas and electric chainsaws, but this is my first pole chain saw. I was a little apprehensive about purchasing one at this low a price, but was impressed with its construction and materials. It cuts well as long as you use proper techniques and do not try to push it too hard. Weakness: I read other reviews prior to purchasing this unit. I agree with other observations that the cap & threads used to seal the chain oil reservoir is too weak. Take care not to over tighten and strip the threads. Caution: I saw the complaints about the saw taking too long to cut, being very slow. I did not have this issue at all, but I believe that they put the chain on the blade backwards. This does not allow the cutting surface of the chain to make proper contact with the wood. The instructions are clear how to perform this relatively simple task, and it is one that you will have to perform again when the chain is removed for sharpening. I was pleased with the cutting performance. Safety: I like being further away from the moving chain. Sometimes you need to be closer to the cut that only a standard chainsaw can provide, but there is always the chance of kick-back directly into your face. With the extra distance of the pole chainsaw this is less of a risk. To me using the pole chainsaw is significantly safer than using a standard chainsaw on a ladder.

I had a tree come down across my driveway during a recent storm. Luckily, it got wedged in the crook of another tree so I could still drive under it and at first, I thought I could use my regular chainsaw to drop it. However, once up on the ladder, I realized that it would be much more difficult than appeared from the ground. I figured with a pole saw, I could dice it up from the far end while remaining safely out of the way and so purchased this saw. I was amazed at how well the saw works! It cut through the downed tree (an oak) with no problems. I worked my way down the trunk until it got to wide for the bar to handle. I could've made a cut from both sides at that point but it wasn't safe to be on one side since the cut section would fall on me. I found that it works best when you take your time and don't force the cut. I would basically lean it up against the trunk and let the weight of the saw do the work. It's not the quickest way to do it but the saw never bogged down and was very controllable the whole way down. There were a couple of times where the bar got pinched and stalled out the motor but once I freed it up, it worked fine. I highly recommend this saw and considering how well it cuts and the ease of use compared to my gas-powered chainsaw, I kinda wish I bought the model that converts to a hand-held unit.

We purchased this pole chainsaw because we have a large tree that is near our solar panels, so branches and growth need to be trimmed on a regular basis so they don't block the sun. It is much easier to use, sturdier, better built and powerful than we expected! And the angle you choose stays locked in place. We feel that this is a good value and a good product. Even though we had never heard of Sun Joe products, we would now not hesitate to buy this brand of equipment again.

Excellent corded polesaw, it took down everything from small branches to 6" trunks with moderate effort. The chain should be tight before you start off on your adventure, which can be a little tricky, but some common sense goes a long way. The best way I've found is to loosen the chain tensioner, slip the chain into place and then hand tighten the cover over the chain. After this, give the cover retaining nut a quarter turn loose, which should help the tensioner move freely. Get the chain taught per specs in the manual (tensioner bolt should turn easily now) and then tighten down the cover bolt. I had the chain pop off once, but I think it's because I was torquing the saw a lot and it was after about an hour of cutting. I refit it and put some lubricant on the chain and it went right back to tearing into thick shrubs and small trees. People should also have realistic expectations, if this survives one season of trimming, it's already paid for itself. Keep the saw clean and lubricated properly and I don't think you'll have a problem.
