As many have said the 1AAA is a great light and this is my fourth Streamlight. Wanted to confirm since it looks like no one has yet that (direct from Amazon at least) they are now shipping the new brighter 115 lumen version of the 1AAA. This version also includes the improved "hat brim" style clip that can slide on from both directions.

My fiancé is a huge fan of these and I didn't really understand the big deal, to me a flashlight is a flashlight) but then the other week we were hiking in the woods and I had left my big beat-a-mf flashlight in the truck since I didn't have room in my pack after filling it with more important things like beer, beef jerky, cigarettes and camera stuff for our little fun escapades we do in the woods (on a side note if you and your significant other don't film all your love making when you're young you will regret it when your all super old) So anyways we get up to a spot we love, which is about a hour in, and we do what people in love do, laugh and chat and all that other cute crap and then I realize the light is broken on my camera and I'm so mad since it's dusk now and I need light for filmmaking and I had left my flashlight behind ! Anyways my fiancé pulled this pen out and we were able to proceed with a great night. Anyways then I realize how cute it is and also fits nicely in my palm when I. make a fist which is good incase I need a harder punch for a bear or whatever. I really love this thing now and I keep one in my purse all the time. You won't regret the purchase.

Small, bright, lightweight, programmable. Perfect EDC light. There really isn't a reason/excuse to not carry a flashlight - everyday. The ProTac 1L-1AA is a great flashlight and I think it will end up passing up the ProTac 1L and 2L models in popularity. If you were like me, you are wondering - "how can a flashlight take a small CR123A and a AA battery?". When you unscrew the cap, you will notice the AA battery slides down into a retainer that has a spring on the bottom side. The AA will protrude out of the end of the flashlight, but you just compress the battery down as you screw on the end cap. Easy. The CR123A's fit flush. It's a great concept. Ten-Tap programmable so you can run it in different modes: High, Low/High, or High/Strobe/Low. Just momentary press the end cap 9 times and press to click on the 10th. Great flashlight. *UPDATE* It has been one year since this review. I have carried this light in my left back pocket daily. A few drops, scuffs and scratches but it is holding up just fine. Wrapped 14" inches of duct tape around the middle because duct tape is always good to have with you. And, it adds a little grip too. It's a great light. * Please let me know if my review has helped. Thank You.*

The only reason surefire can charge so much is because people are willing to pay insane prices for anything that gets a military contract due to the implied prestige and the feeling they get LARPing as their favorite DELTA operator. Anyone familiar with military contracts knows that the highest bidder doesn't get the contract. It's often a mix of cheap and reasonably reliable and even then not always. Surefire is not the best light manufacturer. They're great lights to be sure but they're overpriced by 300%. The streamlight is high quality and most LE or civilians won't put this light in military use conditions. Though streamlights likely would survive the same use surefire does. If you're willing to pay the premium to pretend you're Pat Mac then go with surefire. If you're a reasonable and frugal civilian who still wants great weapon accessories then buy this light with confidence.

This is a great light for several reasons. I keep one in all the cars with a cr123 in them for emergency needs. They just work when you need them. Nice and small, also carry one on me or in my briefcase. It takes at least 5 different types of battery that I have found so far. I know that streamlight specifically states not to use Rcr123a rechargeables, but they work fine. Even better is that it runs on 14500 batteries. Now you do lose the low brightness when using rechargeables, it’s more like bright and slightly less bright. Strobe still works fine. But it is brighter than using cr123s for sure. I’ve done some pretty extensive testing with this and have run into no reliability issues yet. So you can run off 1AA, 1AAA, Cr123, Rcr123a, and 14500. In my testing a 800Mah 14500 will run bright for about an hour. Then it will diminish from about 280 lumens to about 50 lumens (as unscientificly measured against other flashlights of known lumen output) over the next 30 minutes. I stop testing at 1.5 hours, but expect it would just continue to dim and probably give you another 15-30 minutes of useable light. The light gets just as warm as it does with a Cr123 and then cools as the lumens decrease. The best part is that as compared to my Streamlight 2L-X it has slightly better throw. The 2L-X most likely still puts out more lumens, but it is hard to tell in the dark. They look nearly identical. This light just throws slightly farther and still has great spill. This light is nice and small and the clip is perfect for a hat brim or a pocket. The emitter is a bit more neutral white, but still a cooler color. Certainly not as yellow as a zebra headlamp in neutral. It is a nice bright neutralish cool white. I suspect streamlight doesn’t advertise the battery capability because they want to keep selling their Cr123 batteries. That or what I’m doing will kill the emitter quicker. Maybe both. Regardless, I have a bunch of these little lights as they have become my favorite. Stash them with Cr123s for emergencies, EDC/ use with a 14500 and carry a Cr123 as a back up. I’ve had luck with this but don’t recommend it since you “could” fry your light. Hasn't happened to me yet. But just to be safe....

AWESOME LIGHT. Just received this light and tested it. It comes with both a CR123A battery, as well as a quality AA battery. Both batteries inserted into the light without issue. Upon inserting the AA, there is a small amount of spring pressure put on the battery in order to close the tail cap, however, it is a non issue. I tried the CR123A battery first and the light worked perfectly. The high setting is very bright with a good hot spot and plenty of spill. Very few, if any, artifacts can be spotted in the beam. The strobe and low setting also worked fine with just the right amount of light on the low setting. I then inserted the AA battery. I was actually taken back on how much light was produced with a AA battery on high. Visually, it appeared very similar to the amount of light the lithium battery produced. Low and strobe also worked fine. The light is very well made and should give you no problems. Streamlight has excellent customer service, so if you do have any problems, they are willing to stand by their products, from my experience. I would not hesitate to purchase several of these lights, as the "duel fuel" capability is the best selling point of this model. If you are looking for a great light, do not hesitate to purchase this one.

This is a really cool flashlight. I am not much of a flashlight guy... I'm more a knife guy. (we all have our thing, ya know?). So I did a bunch of research when I figured I wanted an LED flashlight. I have always used MagLites for home/camping/backpacking/work/etc... so I figured that one would do. I love the brand and their quality is and has always been awesome. But then I heard something in a random review about a flashlight that can use a couple of different batteries...? whaaaat? After more research I settled on this one (for price point and functionality. I don't need more than 3 settings anyway.) It came with 2 batteries - standard AA and the CR123... OH YEAH. (So, the CR123 is a better battery, more powerful, that's the one I put in there. Well, I hit the LOW beam for a split second the other night to find something on my side of the bed. My wife woke up from a dead sleep and exclaimed 'OW' because the room lit up like an invasion. Seriously, it took me by surprise too. Haven't had a chance to check the durability factor yet. I will though when we go camping this summer. Real easy to use, just be careful, IT IS BRIGHT. The body has a nice feel, no sharp edges. It can stand up on end for 'candle mode' because of the recessed button. Clip woks great. All in all, this flashlight is constructed, and operates, very well.

I purchased the light for patrol use. Walking up to a car with illegally tinted windows on a traffic stop at midnight is incredibly uneasy. I own the Stinger HP which is quite bright and I love it. That light is mounted in the car and comes every where with me. But I needed a new duty light for my belt and I needed one that would burn through tinted windows like butter. This light rips through windows and blinds anything in its path. I'll let the picture speak for itself.

Not that my review would make the least of an impact on the otherwise already stellar reviews of this 2AA powered LED, 250 Lumen flashlight from Streamlight but its simplicity makes it just plain superb. One button, 3 clicks, 3 light functions. High, strobe then low. I really think thats about as simple one would need. Of course, to each his/her own on its intended purpose but having owned a mini Maglite LED, one of the original LED flashlight badged as the Inova X5, a Nightcore, a Fenix & others on the 18650/C123AX2 platforms, this ProTac is the right compromise on everything. Availability of the 2AA battery especially the rechargeable Eneloops, regular Alkalines & even ni-cads on dollar stores would light this baby up. Sure could use a “whiter” light but Im comparing it to brands that claims almost twice the lumen power of this Protac. KISS along with form, fit & function makes this 2AA, an A Plus on my book!

Almost the perfect patrol light. I'm using high quality 18650 olight batteries, not sure of the runtime but it is at least an hour on full. This thing is super bright and lights up everything with the perfect balance of throw and spill. High is brigher than the car spot-light, it blazes through tinted windows and gives a great view of the inside. It is a great size and the grip is really fantastic in a gloved or bare hand. Makes a good club when needed. It fits in a duty belt ring with no problem and is easy to carry. I've dropped tested it onto pavement multiple times and it is surviving (so far). It is almost the perfect flashlight, with two minor exceptions. It needs a programming mode high-med-low instead of low-med-high. The default of high-strobe-low is what I am using, meaning I have no medium . Low is fine for reading documents, walking a trail, or whatever, but I think it would be nice to use medium. I don't like low-med-high as I need high to come on right away, there is always time to cycle to low. Strobe is nearly useless since high is plenty for disorientation. Second is it would benefit from a side switch for different shooting platforms. I was worried about this but have quickly gotten used to it's size and weight as a tail clicky using the FBI flashlight technique. This is not a good light for the Harries technique, but i don't like that method anyway for personal reasons.
