Well made kayak carrier for the price point. Instructions were clearly printed with glossy step by step photos Installed on 2020 4Runner, please see installation photos. Being universal fit the mounting bolts were too long for my particular application. After cutting bolts 3/4” shorter (17-18 threads) the carriers mounted with no chance of touching the roof. Securely holds my 12’ VIBE yak

I bought the double set of the AA Products KX325 J-Bar Racks to hold two (2) 10 foot kayaks. I also ordered AA's APX25 truck ladder rack (universal, no-drill) to mount these J-bars to. I opted to mount my rack to my utility trailer and mount the j-bars to that. Unfortunately, once I got my rack assembled and tried to attack the j-bars, the bracket was not the correct bracket for the wide crossbars on the APX25. I simply assumed that if I ordered two products from the same company at the same time they would be compatible. I also did not see any sort of compatibility chart or warning telling me these did not go together. Needless to say I wasn't happy..... However, I made a quick call to the AA Products customer service and they actually answered the phone! How many times have you called customer service for a company of a product you've bought on Amazon, only to find out that they don't actually care about the service post-purchase? Not with AA Products. I explained my issue and they quickly identified that I required a larger bracket and shipped it out same day at no extra cost. If I had called prior to placing my order, they would have done it at that time and I wouldn't have had the problem at all. They also informed me that there is an item on Amazon where they bundle a ladder rack and j-bars together, and that includes the correct brackets. ***I have to say that the customer service response to my issue made this experience 5-stars hands-down*** The j-bars come in multiple pieces and it appears to be a daunting task to assemble, but the directions are easy to follow and the components all went together easily. I had no issues putting them together. It took me about 20 minutes to put 4 j-bars together while I was watching TV. The padding around the bars is plush foam and appears to be durable. The bars are steel (not aluminum if that is something you are looking for), and they are powder coated black. I'm very pleased with the appearance, strength, and durability of these racks for the price point. If you need a set of j-bars, I would give these a shot. If nothing else, the customer service alone would be worth it.

While it required assembly, it wasn't hard to put together. I was very happy with these racks as compared to the double kayak carriers that are one unit. For starters, this was much cheaper. I also like that each kayak I mount is on its own set of racks. The double rack I also have creates problems when you remove one kayak, the other one wants to fall down. I find it's better to have separate racks that don't touch and this one works great!

I wanted to use these racks a few times before writing a review. I'm quite satisfied with these, minus Amazon damaging the package enroute (but no bearing on the product or seller itself. A reflection of Amazon's deliver service). When it did finally arrive, it was packaged pretty well and it didn't come damaged or anything like that. The instructions were ok and see what reviewers are saying, but I'm an avid DIYer and was able to figure them out pretty easily. The first hook was a little awkward putting together, but after that, it only took me about 15 minutes to get the other 3 together. My tip for ease of assembly: I used a ratchet and socket set to put it together and tightened snug. The wrench they give you is pretty small and can see why some reviewers say it didn't seem tight after they put it together. I found it in the second package of nuts and bolts after I got the first 2 together but wouldn't of used it anyway since you can't get a lot of torque on the nuts with how small it is. Also, turn the carriage bolt while tightening to make sure it seats into the square holes. It comes out as your turning kinda easily. I feel a lot of reviewers didn't realize that or how carriage bolts work. Over all, very satisfied. They've been secure on my roof rack for a few weeks and installed easily. I do turn the knobs every time after I put my kayak in just to be sure but it's pretty secure on the crossbars and I'm not worried about them. In terms of longevity? I dunno yet. Only been using them for a month so not sure how they'll hold up over time. They seem pretty solidly built so I'm sure I'll get at least a couple years out of them before I need to repaint or put new foam on them. And still, at this price point, I can just replace them as they age and still be cheaper than the higher priced cradles. My verdict: At this price, I'm extremely satisfied with the build quality and my experience so far with these, considering the alternatives being at least double the price for only 2. If you're new to kayaking like I was and don't want to break the bank, these are worth it IMO.

How many ways can you put something together incorrectly? Well, apparently quite a few. By the 4th one we figured it all out, but do yourself a favor and REALLY study the directions, follow them carefully. Put one whole J-bar together start to finish instead of assembly-line style, in case you go off the track. We had to take two apart to correct a mistake made early in the process. But once together, they're easy to put on and take off the rack, and they're super sturdy. We have a Toyota 4Runner with very flat cross pieces between the bars, and these work just fine. I was concerned about the clearance under the bar for access to the knobs for installation, but the clearance on our bars was more than adequate. Overall, very please with the rack.

We bought this Kayak rack to transport 2 eight foot kayaks 250 miles. We have assembled and put the j racks on our SUV. So far everything has gone well. Our trip will take place in the next two weeks and we will supplement the review on its completion. However, I wanted to make a special effort to complement the customer service we received. The racks arrived with a card that supplied us a phone number to be used if we had questions. We did have questions about the ratchet straps. I called the number supplied and received a message that the call was outside business hours. I left a message. Shortly thereafter, my wife also called. She was talking to a live person within a few minutes. After a pleasant discussion, the customer service representative completely took care of us and our questions. Later, I received a voice mail from customer service explaining that they received my first voice mail but believed that they had solved the issue during the subsequent conversation with my wife. They wanted to make sure we were taken care of. I was absolutely amazed at the prompt, pleasant, and effective customer service as well as the thoughtful follow up. I will report the results of the performance of the kayak racks upon the completion of our trip but I wanted to immediately report a very significant and impressive aspect of our transaction. UPDATE: Put 2 8 foot Kayaks on the racks and drove 250 miles. Returned two days later. The racks secured the kayaks and were just what we wanted to transport our kayaks. We had no problems.

A bit time consuming for 2 sets. Put 2 sets on a 2016 explorer. Had to use my engineering skills to figure out how to mount with long bolts. Problem was bolts given were to short or to long. Long bolts i had to use were hitting the glass roof. Ok, quick fix, i put some felt pads between the glass and bolt. But still i was driving 4 hours with kayaks bouncing around. Didnt want the glass to break. I could have cut them to length but not having a store open at that time i was doing all this fun to get right size bolts and had a threader on hand of course, i had to MacGyver. Screw caps given in the package i used as spacers, more so to raise the racks up to shorten the bolts on the bottom side with some extra washers i had on hand. More importantly to make sure it was securely fastened right as well. All in all it all worked out amazingly with no issues riding from Asheville NC to Charleston SC.

This company’s customer service was found to be exceptional. We used these carriers for our kayaks and they worked very well. After removing the carrier racks for a better car clearance our 5 month old pup chewed the rubber tubbing off two of the carriers. I then called the company requesting replacement rubber tubing for the damaged racks. They were very understanding and assured me the protective tubing would be mailed within days. It wasn’t long after we received two metal tubes complete with the rubber sleeves attached at no charge. Before putting the carries back on our Honda Pilot we ordered from the same company a set of their folding carrier racks and we found these to be exactly what we need, giving both a rating of 10..

I purchased these Kayak car holders for my two new Kayaks. After reading and researching I came upon this set of Kayak holders for my car. The instructions were easy to understand and the Kayak holders were simple to assemble. Exceptional quality, great service and excellent quality manufacturing. I will definitely recommend AA Products products again.

It took about 2 minutes to figure out how to assemble the first bracket. Once I figured it out, the rest were a breeze. Used both racks on top of my 2014 Ford Explorer to haul 1 kayak and 2 kids kayaks all at once. Drove one way with them for about an hour and a half at speeds of up to 75 mph. The kayaks held sturdy the entire time. No question that the racks served their intended purpose. Make sure you follow the instructions and you will be on your way to fun times on the water. Worth the money!
