It works Great
So far so good! Works great! Installation wasnt that hard at all. The only con is my small Chi/terrier is super smart and tiny and can wiggle her way under the gate But it does keep babies and my big dog out of the kitchen while I cook, clean, etc. 👍

Gate can be unlocked & opened with one hand
I was confused about whether this Perma Child Safety gate required two hands, one at each end, to open it, or could be opened with one hand only. Now that I’ve installed it I’ve found it can be opened with one hand. Here’s how it works on my 33” baby gate, 36” opening: To open the gate, first turn the knob at one end. Then let go of the knob. You have released the lock in the coiling mechanism that prevents the gate from unrolling. Next pull the gate fuurther out an inch or so to unhook it from the u-shaped clip at the other end. Now the gate will roll up. Guide it back with your hand as it rolls up. As soon as it starts going backward (rolling up), it is locked from going forward again until you turn the knob. To close the gate turn the knob and roll it out until you can hook it on the clip at the other end. As it settles back into the clip (rolls up) a half-inch or so it locks itself from unrolling again until you turn the knob. You can’t pull it out of the clip until you turn the knob to release it from its don’t-unroll, locking mechanism. So it stays locked closed in the clip. You have to turn the knob when you want to open it. Don’t use the ridiculous little screws they provide. With pressure or weight on the center of the gate they will pull right out. Try to find studs at each end to mount the gate on. Use 1.5” - 2.0” screws. Stores sell good stud-finders now. If you must mount on wallboard use molybolts, not the expansion screws provided. Molybolts will hold much better . Sound mounting is especially important if your gate is at top of a flight of stairs, as mine is. This gate is just what I wanted to keep my 91 year old wife off the stairs leading down to the basement. She won’t be able to figure out how to open it. I wish it came in beige color. I ordered gray. It’s see-through like a curtain shim, so it’s not too bad. This gate is just what I needed, well made, at a fair price. Five stars.

Great retractable gate
This gate works as expected. Locks in place and is taut when locked. The mechanism is certainly flimsier than solid metal gates, but it's to be expected. The retractable mechanism allowed us to mount a gate at the top of the stairs without any intrusive elements to trip over (and then fall downstairs). It can be confusing to open because the spring is tight and the locking mechanism needs to be released before opening, but, whatever, evenly slicing your own loaf of bread is really hard; If you can figure out bread, you'll figure this out. Recommended for when you want a gate that's not intrusive. NOTE: our kid doesn't climb on the gate. It probably wouldn't be able to withstand much climbing before losing integrity, unlike a metal gate. Or a blast door.

Very pleased
This is a super product but must be installed by someone pretty handy, we had to cut my shoe mold. So far my dogs have not escaped and they are very small. There is a gap that they could get through on the side if they wanted to but my dogs are 4 and 6 pounds. Larger dogs would not have a chance. We also put it as low to the floor as possible so they could not crawl under. This is a permanent solution as you have to drill holes in your wall. With all this said, it works very well and the retractable part is genius. It would take a baby or toddler a while to figure out how to open, and only because they see you turn the knob. It has been up a couple of weeks and the white color just blends into my house. It was worth the money because it is engineered well.

Amazing Product
Our Boston LambChop has Cushings Disease. It makes him extremely thirsty as s result it’s unfair to crate him with the others. He loves to sleep with us but likes to push hubby out of the bed. We put a wooden gate up but he would push it until he could scratch on the bedroom door. Our home is only 3 years old and having a old fashioned baby gate attached to my wall was a no. I came across this and am I’m so glad I did. Ready in Less than 5 minutes to securely installed. Last night everyone got a good nights sleep. We didn’t use the spacers for floor molding. We attached from side trim to side trim. LambChop can sleep on the couch or in any of the 4 dog beds in the living room. He has free access to the doggy door as well. We have med gray wall paint with dark grey doors and white trim. I can’t imagine a usable gate that would take less room or look better. The gate rolls and in out very smoothly but you do need two hands. Once it’s locked in place it doesn’t continue to roll if you lean on it. Sadly Cushings is a fatal disease so someday we will someday remove the gate. We will only have 8 screw holes to patch and touch up. I really don’t understand all the bad feedback.

Works great!
Great product for little ones! Works well for our 72 inch hallway. You have to read directions. For it to go that far you must twist the knob, let go of the button then pull the gate all the way to the closed position. You do NOT have to hold the knob and pull at the same time... Twist the knob, let go and then pull all the way to close. Its kind of like a seat belt if you stop it won't go any further and you will have to re turn the knob and try again.

Keeps Our Dog on the Deck
Bought this gate for our back deck so that we could let our dog hang out on the deck without worrying about him running off into the yard if we weren’t around. It was very easy to install – took maybe 15 minutes at the most. The wide opening for the stairs on the deck meant we had to find a gate that was wide enough – most aren’t. This one was plenty wide. The latch seems to work fine. I just turn it to the open position, let go of the latch and pull the screen across the opening. It took a few tries before I figured out what worked best in pulling the gate because once in a while it would stop and I had to turn the latch again. Now that I have it figured out, no problems. Also, generally pleased with how this gate looks. It seems very sturdy. I’m sure some kids or dogs could do some damage to it if they tried, but that would be true for most any non metallic gate. I am very pleased with this item.

Great gate
Awesome gate. Comes with everything including shims for baseboard (although I will probably just make some custom MDF brackets eventually because I am obsessive and they don't look great). One installed inside the other going outside. Hopefully the material can actually put up with full Colorado sun. We will see. But for the price I think these are a fantastic value and the muted grey is a way better look than most other options. Very sturdy but no easy to operate with one hand like a swing gate for example. But a worthwhile trade off as nothing swinging around on a hinge when open - just rolls up with good tension. Also easy one button dismount from the bracket if you want to get it completely out of the way for some reason.

Best games ever!
My favorite thing I have ever purchased off amazon! These gates work wonderful in my house to keep the dog out of rooms he is not allowed in to when no one is home, but make it super easy to be able travel back and forth between rooms when we are home! I wish I could of found these years ago! Life changeing! I enjoy my home so much more now that I don't have to climb over dogs gates every where.

Best thing I ever bought on-line!
When we redecorated our split level home some years before grandchildren, we replaced an ugly iron banister for a beautiful wooden one. When the first grandchildren came, we improvised a security screen to prevent them from falling, but that would not ruin the banister. The old style security fence, also, only covered the stairs to the basement, and not the stairs leading up to the bedrooms and main bath, which share the same banister. This retractable baby gate solved the problem. I had a professional handy man read the instructions and install it. He noticed that the instructions did not take into account our kind of base board, so he had to improvise. But he installed it in about 45 minutes. The 72-inch screen spans both stair cases and can easily be closed or opened by my two older grandchildren (9 and 11 years old); pulling the screen all the way across before it locks (like a safety belt in a car) is a little difficult for the 7 year-old grandchild, but she understands the principles and will do better when she's a little stronger. The important think is that the baby, now 1 and crawling, looks at it like any other wall and does not seem to care what is behind the screen. Hopefully, he'll do the same when he's walking.
