faster than my LG 8x (review is for silver detachable cable version)

I started to wonder if USB 3 drives might be faster than my trusty old LG (which uses a USB mini connector), and took a risk on an off brand. Exact Audio Copy software rips at 8.5x using this drive, the LG seldom got above 2x. Cheers! The only issue is the cable being only 18 inches long. Same shortie as my Seagate multi-TB external drive. It's OK if you can put it next to your laptop. Standard USB A on one end, USB 3 (see photo) on the other. Didn't try a longer cable. Great Product - Great Shipping

I burn a lot of DVDs & CDs and own several programs that need to be installed from an optical drive. Therefore, a computer without an optical drive has been useless to me. However, a situation has arrived where I needed a 2-in-1 computer with detachable monitor that I could use as a tablet. A friend gave me a birthday present a couple weeks ago, a new Surface Book to meet that requirement, but there was no optical drive. I searched online for portable drives. Sine my new computer has USB 3.0 ports, I wanted a drive that would take advantage of the ports. This seemed to be the ideal situation. I ordered through Amazon Prime and got free one day delivery. It came direct from the manufacturer. I plugged it in and played a CD with no problem. I had to install some software to play the DVDs, but fortunately I already own that software and the drive installed it perfectly. I then watched a DVD movie and it was perfect. What a great drive.

Great product and Fast help when needed!!

Great product! Had an issue getting it to work at first but contacted their help desk with email provided and got my problem fixed in no time at all. By the way, anyone with a Toshiba Fusion (like me) who is having problems should download VLC media player. Fixed my problem quickly.

I've got to tell you that this drive is not only the "QuietesT", it's also the fastest.

I've had a couple of these external drives over the years, just can't figure out where they have gotten away to. The drives I had, had been "BIG" brand name drives that cost a WHOLE LOT more money than this drive did. I have used just about every kind of disc that you can in one of these since it arrived, and they all worked just fine. They all burn smooth and quick and play back the same way. I have done audio, video, programs and lots of backups now with this machine. I used both the expensive name brand discs and the... ones that cost a LOT less and as far as I am concerned are the better discs anyways. Didn't matter if it was R, RW, DVR, + - or whatever, they all worked great in this RooFull external drive. This drive is lightweight, quiet, quick, and tough. It's gonna be around for a long time. Then there is the included protection case. It is the reason I purchased this particular drive. I had already decided to get a RooFull based on testimonies about how well they work, and how long they last. The case caught my eye and said to me that if you're going to get one, get a good one and get a case to protect it. Once the drive and the case arrived I instantly knew that I had made the right decision. This is not some little thin, wimpy, whimsy of a case. This sucker is TOUGH! I know that with the case this drive is going to last me for as long as I'm around. Hopefully it will help scare off the gremlins that ran away with my other drives ;) Final thoughts: Very Quiet, Very Fast, and the CASE is a no brainer (I wish I had thought of that) I wish I had cases like this on all my gear. Be smart buy a Roofull and get the one with the case! Whoever thought to package this great drive with the tough case, is proof that there is still some common sense left in the world ;)

Works on Windows 10 home edition right out of the box!

This DVD writer worked right out of the box with my Dell XPS running Windows 10 home version. I used VLC player to watch movies and iTunes to listen to music while using discs played on this DVD player. The cord is short, so I purchased an extended cable, just in case I need to set the writer up a little further away from the computer. I liked the price and the fact it uses USB 3.0. For me this product met my expectations. If things change after using this player a bit longer, I'll update my review. The company sells a more updated player, but I like the idea of storing the cable under the player when not in use.

Easy, easy, easy!

I'm not a techie, so am so thrilled that this truly was Plug n Play! I just got a new Origin laptop (most new laptops don't come with CD drives). I needed a drive to install my Quicken program. Just plugged this in and wham - it works!! Compact for easy storage. I also like that the cable is attached so that I won't lose the cable.

Great External Drive for the Price. Works great with Windows 10

Bought for my Daughter's trip to Israel for Study Abroad Summer program. Her new laptop didn't come with a disc drive but she needed to install software once she arrived in Israel to complete her studies. Item arrived quickly and installed without issues. (She has Windows 10 installed on her HP notebook) After reading all the reviews, I purchased this item because it appeared to be the most reliable and compatible with her notebook. Ordered the Drive 72 hours before her departure (yes, we cut it close!) but it came quickly and we had time to test it the night before she left for her trip. Appears to have installed the operating software and started an automatic install of a program disc we used to try it out (this is what we hoped would happen). Overall, very happy with this DVD drive.

It works perfectly for installing software and disc based games

I used this to install several video games from disc. I still use it to start up all of the games which require a disc to start. I then just unplug the external dvd drive and continue playing the games. Perfect if you have a gaming laptop (or any) that lacks a disc drive. I would recommend this drive to anybody. The included protective case keeps the drive from becoming damaged during use. The cord is quite short, but that doesn't matter for my needs. I have tested it with an amazon basics usb 3.0 extension cable and it worked perfectly. Just remember to keep it on as flat a surface as possible, though I have used it on less than flat surfaces with no ill effects. Perfect on the go, in car rides, etc. if you just need to use it to start a game or even quickly install software from disc. Material on top of drive matches the outer material of my Acer Predator Helios 300 so well that they look like they were made for each other.

I have used the drive only a few times so far but it has performed as expected. I like that it is compact and requires very little desk space. I have it hooked up to a brand new iMac, desktop computer. Over time I suspect your drive will be used extensively as I make music CD's for use in our family vehicle plus DVD movies to preserve family photos and videos. I am relieved and comforted to hear you provide "customer service" AFTER the sale. To me, it is service AFTER a sale that carries more weight than anything else. Why? Because most products are manufactured at minimal costs, using substandard materials and "cheap" labor. That in turn results in down time due to faulty internal connections, cold joints, defective materials and design. Any product which fails to provide reasonable service in relation to the product price tag and intended use NEVER gets our repeat business and ARE provided plenty of NEGATIVE advertising to everyone we know and with whom we do business.
