Ordered this Gateway to replace an Arris TM822G modem (purchased 4/2014) which was now maxed out speed wise due to the latest speed bump by Comcast for Blast! Pro (to 300/12). Also recycled my router (and TM822) at BB, which did not run the AC wireless standard. Unboxed the unit, called Comcast to see if they wanted to activate it since it had telephony feature. They said sure. Internet portion activated quickly. Telephone was a different matter and after two days, many hours on countless calls, Comcast techs concluded the gateways was defective and I should replace it in order to get the telephone side to work. So I clicked on return, Amazon immediately sent a replacement. The replacement unit worked. Both internet and telephone activated by phone with Comcast techs in one hour (the telephone side takes the longest time). While it is frustrating to have received a defective unit, Comcast techs did their best and of course kudos to Amazon for the quick replacement. All has been working fine now for four days, signal levels are good and getting full speeds. Defective unit on it's way back to Amazon via their prepaid shipping label. BTW, I was told by Comcast techs the telephone side (on both the TM822 and SVG2482AC) has to be activated by them with a phone call, the web based activation only works for the internet side. YMMV. Obviously, you better have a cell phone handy to do this.

I was tired of paying $10.00 a month to Comcast to rent their equipment. That is why I bought this item. I will say that dealing with Comcast's customer service is a JOKE and very FRUSTRATING. and returning their equipment was a major FIASCO!!! But that is a long story and this review is not about me bashing Comcast's customer service. So my review on this item. The installation was very simple. and Comcast was able to add it to my account relatively easy. I had questions about password protecting my WiFi so I called ARRIS customer service and they were A+! the man I talked to was very knowledgeable, very friendly and very Patient with me. As far as how it works. I have only had it for about 2 months but, I use the WiFi on my Tivo, my laptop, my microwave, my printer, my Ring Doorbell and 2 cell phones .I did have to buy an extender but I also use it outside with 1 of my cell phones to listen to blue tooth speakers in my back yard by the pool. It also works great with my Xfinity home phone. With that being said If you have Xfinity triple play and you are looking for something to replace your rented equipment I would recommend this unit.

I purchase this modem/router combo from Amazon directly and I couldn't be happier. I am very pleased with the performance thus far; I am currently provisioned for the 400Mbps blast pro internet from Xfinity/Comcast. Setup was a breeze, the rep asked for the serial numbers as they always do when activating new equipment and within 10 minutes I was up and running. It should be noted that after I hung up with the rep I went online and did a speed test to verify speeds are as expected and I'm glad I did, it was running at 200/Mbps down, so rather than get frustrated I waited 45 minutes, came back, reset the device ,and then performed another So, if anyone is experiencing slow speeds right out of the gate, make sure after activation, give it a good 30-45 minutes then perform a soft reset (unplug for 10 seconds and plug back in)this gives the modem a chance to get provisioned with your ISP settings and whatever firmware updates that needed to be pushed to the device to make it perform optimally. I did and I am happy as a clam!

I purchased this modem as it is capable of working with all the Xfinity Triple Play services. This was newest Arris model just released, supported and Xfinity tech recommended this model to replace my leased older Arris Xfinity branded Triple Play modem. Got on phone with support and was setup within an hour with no issues after they registered the MAC and updated firmware. Going on a month now with no issues and great wireless coverage. No more modem lease... YAE.... Now if the cost was lower!

The unit was quick to hook up. Just changed wires from Comcast unit to this exact unit. Did not connect to the internet so I called Arris. Spoke to a non-English speaking person who ultimately said to call Commiecast. Did that and after only going with three different agents, it worked. The 1st lady over in Bangladesh promised to help me, but disconnected the call and never called back. Typical Commiecast. 2nd land did the same but did call back. Then she disconnected me, never to call again. The 3rd, a man, knew what he was doing and it took a while to correct the unit. He had to redo what the other 2 did wrong. After, just a few minutes of watching the new smart tv both my wife and I are certain that the colors are more intense and vibrant as compared to the great Commiecast junk. A side note, I had to recycle this unit twice after the install and it takes quite a while to connect to the internet. And yes the real reason for the change out was Commiecast raising the monthly fee to $13 plus tax. This will payback in a year.

The modem is great and I wish I had purchased it sooner instead of paying rent to Comcast for years. For my situation, the main difficulty was getting through Comcast's telephone nightmare to talk to a technician. They had to register the new modem with their system. The instructions in the manual provided said just to "activate" the new modem. That was incorrect. The Comcast technician was great. Getting to her was stressful since the telephone system wanted to reset my old modem. And although the technician didn't think it would work, once activated the new modem restored all my old dedicated IPs (for example, to my printer). But after I returned to the Comcast store the modem I was renting, Comcast did not remove the charge for renting it. Again I had to forge through the Comcast telephone system to talk to a person in billing. It took them another day to remove the rental fee. All in all, it is worth the hours of struggle with Comcast.

I bought this modem to replace the rented Comcast Xfinity Arris TG1682. The 2482 is most likely just the retail version of the TG1682. Self activated on the Comcast network and was up and running in just a few minutes. The Arris SVG2482AC is listed as compatible on the Xfinity approved modem list for my zip code. This is a DOCSIS 3.0 modem which is more than adequate for my internet plan.

I bought this to replace the modem we were renting from the local growing company we have here. So far so good! I even contacted amazon to make sure I could send this back if it did not meet my expectation, or did not work with the local company! I could return this, which made me feel better but why? Works fine but for the phone line. Our local company was bought lately by some big boys who claim they are going to upgrade the technology in this area.....hope the phone lines are on the list. It was bigger then I thought , which is not always bad!! Plenty of air flow ! I had it turned on to see how hot it would get for 6 days now, officially hooked up when I could monday morning. All is well in the land of computers here! Speed tests all look good. I have not hooked up all the features yet...... I wished there were more options in the admin panel however they must not be to big of a deal for i can not remember what they were right now haha! There is 3 desktops (2 are gaming computers), several gaming consoles , several cell phones, a lap top, a tablet, 3d game system, tv's, the cameras hook right into the wifi.... gosh I think that is all we have connected. I do not like renting anything if I have a option to buy!

This is a good product and the price isn't bad if you really need both an Xfinity cable modem and a high capacity router. This is one of only two models that Xfinity recommends for 400 Mbps internet connections that work with Xfinity's VOIP landline telephone service. These are the fastest cable modems that work with Xfinity's VOIP system. And this was the less expensive option (although looking back it might have been worth spending more to get the other choice (a Netgear model) just because of the color. This is the only white device on my computer desk and it really sticks out (LOL). According to at least one of the tech support people I talked to, a lot of people don't actually upgrade to a VOIP compatible modem. If they have a working VOIP modem they can keep using it for phone service, while transferring their internet connection to a faster, Non-VOIP cable modem. I didn't test this, but if it's true it means that you can get a Gbps capable DOCSIS 3.1 modem / router and instead of this unit. I don't think I could have saved much money by doing this, but you might be able to. Clearly there are a lot more cable modems to choose from if you don't need them to be Xfinity VOIP capable, so I would recommend you consider this before you buy. But if you do buy this unit with the intention of using it for VOIP with Xfinity, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT CALL XFINITY TECH SUPPORT TO HELP WITH THE INITIAL SETUP OF THIS DEVICE! It comes with an excellent set of Quick Start instructions that can prevent you from doing what I did, which is spend over an hour frustrating Comcast Agents and Tech support people on the phone trying to get it all set up in one step. It just isn't set up to do that. As per the Quick Start Guide, you start the setup by connecting your coaxial cable and either an Ethernet (preferred) or wireless connection to the modem from a PC, Mac, Laptop, or similar device with web access. When you boot up the modem it automatically configures itself to go online and prepare itself for activation by Comcast. Crucially this step takes 5-10 minutes and has to be completed BEFORE you can register it for your account. Trying to start with the registration on the phone resulted in a bunch of frustration as the constant reboots ordered by Comcast messed up the software that the modem was trying to run to set itself up. Then, as per the Quick Start Guide, you can go online and use the www.xfinity.com/activate web site to both register the modem to your account, and set up the SSID you and password you want to use, ideally the one you already used before the upgrade. This automatically sets up the 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands to work off the same login and to switch automatically. Only after doing this do you want to mess with the VOIP settings, which has to be done by phone. The Quick Start Instructions give you a special number (1-855-652-3446) that apparently connects you to the tiny subset of Comcast techies that know how to transfer your VOIP service to this modem. I ignored these instructions and tried to let Comcast handle the installation over the phone. The result was over an our spent with various techs trying to intervene in the process before the modem was ready for the next step. I wasted everybody's time and effort. In the end, the modem itself had to take over and fix the installation after the tech guys had succeeded in setting up the VOIP and making it impossible for me to connect to the internet. Basically the modem had to go through it's initial setup protocol again AFTER it had been connected to my account and VOIP service. And when I finally got back online, the modem itself brought up an Arris webpage where I was prompted to complete the WiFi setup by designating a custom SSID and Password, which I SHOULD have done during the registration process had I followed the instruction. In the final analysis it's pretty impressive that no matter how much you try to interfere with the setup process, Arris has this set up so that you will succeed under the power of it's own software. My advice, however, is to trust the Quick Start Guide and follow the steps they suggest. Start with the automatic modem setup using a connected device, then do the Xfinity activation online, and then call the special number for the VOIP setup. Or, if you already have an Xfinity VOIP modem, you can apparently let that handle the VOIP and use this for the Ethernet and WiFi connections. I didn't test this, but it is what I heard from Tech Support. All in all this is a very solid piece of equipment and its good to know that it will complete the install even if you do your best to mess it up. I am getting all of the performance that is advertised now that everything is connected correctly. The only reason I hesitated to give this product 5 stars is that

Look at the box...See where it says DOWNLOAD SPEEDS UP TO 1 GIG? Not so fast! I bought this modem and promptly ordered 1 Gig Service from Xfinity. And I promptly was given 27 Mbps service! What I didn't know is that just because it says its is Gig capable, doesn't mean it really is, because its not. I spent hours and hours on the phone and on chat support trying to get my speed to what it should be. Finally a chat rep actually looked up the model number and said, it's 3.0 not 3.1, you will never get 1 gig with that. The Modem it's self works very well, But not for 1 Gigabit internet service. I'm happy with what it is doing, so far, so good. It can handle 400 Mbps speed, to be honest, when I open a web page I don’t see a difference in speed, when I look stuff up, still no different, but that’s me, I am not a gamer. I am on the fence about getting this again to stop the foolish $12 fee every month as I have voice service and gig speed in my package and if I go down one package I loose a couple of channels I don’t watch anyway and will have to use a router for my home security which I already have anyway
