TakeCase for the New Nintendo 3DS XL Review
This is a review of the TakeCase for the New Nintendo 3DS XL. It feels very secure in holding the New Nintendo 3DS XL and up to 8 games. It starts to feel a too stuffed with the charger in this case and 8 games. Overall, I rate this a 4.8 out of 5.0 stars. If it could accommodate the charger better, it would be a perfect case. It is still a very good case. UPDATE July 10, 2016: Case is still working well. It holds my New Nintendo 3DS XL, the 6 games I have, and the charger. Attached are some pictures of the case with a tape measure showing its dimensions. It is a little over 2 inches thick, about 8 inches long, and 5 inches wide.

High Quality & Cheap Price, Takecase is a must buy!
This is a review for the Takecase 3DSXL Black/Red newest version (I'm not sure if they even still sell the previous model.) I have purchased a lot of cases over the years and all of them were expensive and fell short when compared to Takecase. After checking out my case and interacting with the founder via email, I realized that this company is truly out to make and sell the best cases that will not break the bank. Higher cost does not always mean higher quality and Takecase proves this and has my business for as long as they stay true to that. This case is awesome! It is not too large so it does not feel cumbersome, yet it is not so small that it cannot fit what I need it for! This vendor also updates their products in a way not usually seen from other companies in this day and age. By that I mean they read their customer reviews and improve their products based on popular requests that are of course justifiable and within reason, such as they added a 2nd game holding insert in the newest version giving customers double the capacity for storing games from 8 to 16! The extra storage does not make the case feel as if they shoved it in, it fits perfectly and "does not" feel like I need to sit on it to zip it closed like an overstuffed suitcase! It closes easily (I even have a clear plastic add-on shell around my 3dsxl) and has quality zippers. Inside the top lid is a quality soft and padded mesh zippered storage for misc items like your power cable and headphones etc... In the center are 2 game storage pages that are sewn into the case so they cannot come loose and fall out. The games are held in place by a mesh screen and each game has it's own slot that they fit in perfectly, I have both 3ds and the older 2ds games that don't have the extra notch sticking out that 3ds games have; both styles fit in any slot and are held in snuggly. The storage pages are also filled with a solid insert, most likely a sturdy cardboard or thin plastic but I'm not cutting my case open to verify lol. This gives your games extra protection. Also on each game storage page is a stylus holder. 1 of them is used by the "free" itionalfull pen size/style stylus that is included and so much easier to hold than the tiny stylus that comes with the 2/3ds/xl. The second holder is available for an additional stylus if you have one. I definitely want a second stylus in case I forget to put it back in the case and I lose it, it's so comfortable to use. The stylus holders are also placed on the bottom of the page under the bottom row of game slots. It is also on the top facing side so when the case is shut the stylus is not pressing against your games or against your DS as it would have had it been placed on the back facing side. The main storage area which holds your DS has a velcro insert that is a padded soft mesh design that holds your DS in place so it does not move around in the case. Because it is velcro it is removable if you for whatever reason feel like you want to have your DS in loosely, maybe for that tiny bit of extra room if you really feel like you needed it. I wouldn't recommend taking it out but that's just my opinion. The case itself is very sturdy and is a hardshell covered in a sturdy fabric of sorts, I can't remember what the type of fabric is but it's not something that is going to rip easily. The case also has a very nice handle that is reinforced with a rubber vented handguard to allow air flow, I assume to reduce the chance of dropping it if your hands are sweaty. The zippers to close the case are also thick and they feel heavy and metallic, It could be a very hard plastic but the weight of them feel metallic. The vendor also sent an email thanking me and asking how I am feeling about my purchase, pretty standard, asking if I like it, if I am not satisfied to please contact them and they will work "tirelessly" to ensure that I am 100% happy. I sent them a thank you and also a question about another product I am interested in. Sara, the founder of Takecase responded personally to my email with a personal response and also information where I can find the other product I have been looking for. Your average vendor even if they read customer reviews, do not go out of their way to improve their product based on customer feedback because they want to please them, they typically care only about selling it and if they do "improve" it's usually a so-called improvement that saves them money so they can make more of it, not because they are attempting to please their customer base. Things like that, as well as the quality, very reasonable pricing, and including the free stylus etc...are what make me want to take the time to write a review so I can both help this vendor stand out and also to help my fellow shoppers not waste their hard earned money on a junk product. Do yourself a favor; if your in the market for a quality case and especially if you have a limited budget, buy from this vendor because not only will you be satisfied but you will realize that you did not end up settling for something cheaply made because it's all you could afford. This review is in no way sponsored and I have received nothing from Takecase physically or promised in the future if I wrote a review. I am stating that because I want others to know my review is 100% legitimate, I am just a very pleased customer. Thanks for reading my review and I hope it helped!

Outstanding product for the price - so far.
I have only had this case for a few days, but so far it exceeds my expectations. I was able to store my Nintendo 3DS XL comfortably, 16 game cartridges, and my data and power cables. Where it exceeds my expectations is that it also holds my Nintendo DS lite, in the upper pocket and it's power supply also. I also have my Action Replay original and Action Replay Power Saves stored in it. I only expected to get my 3DS XL and it's accessories stored in this case, but the fact that I can store my DS Lite and it's accessories, comfortable without stretching or stressing the case, is a bonus. We will see in a year or so if it holds up - I believe it will. The only defect that I see is the game cartridge sleeves are sewn in a little crooked, but that is just a cosmetic thing and has no impact on functionality. All items fit perfectly and are easy to put in and take out. If this case doesn't hold up, it does have a lifetime warranty. Takecase contacted me a day after my case arrived, via email, checking to see if I was happy with my purchase and gave me contact numbers if I had any problems, which I don't. Good product, good customer service and follow-up. Happy with my purchase and will recommend this case to my friends. I was NOT paid to write this review and I was not given any free items in exchange for my review. I usually do not give 5 star reviews for products purchased, but when I purchase defective or substandard products I ALWAYS write negative reviews to warn customers. I am very pleased with this purchase and believe any one else looking for a strong case for their hand held gaming systems will also be happy with their purchase of this case.

(Nearly) ideal; kitten-tested and human-approved
There are lots of 3DS XL cases available; only a few details set this one apart, but they're mainly details I think are worth the slightly higher price for this one. + The exterior fabric, as advertised, is thick and very durable. Unfortunately, my kitten happens to love this particular texture for sharpening his claws on. Fortunately, the exterior material seems capable of withstanding the fuzzy onslaught; I can't even see picks in the fabric yet. I'll probably have to replace the case in several months to a year, but not needing to replace it next week is a definite mark in favor of TakeCase. + TakeCase uses a Velcro "pouch" to hold the console where other manufacturers use a simple elastic strap or nothing at all. The pouch has a stiff backing that sits between the console and the exterior of the case, adding another layer of protection versus damage from outside. The front of the pouch is mesh, but not a simple mesh pocket; it's actually two layers of mesh with a thin wafer of foam between them, adding another layer of protection versus damage from inside. The mesh and its elastic edging stretch enough to almost insert the console without removing the pouch from its Velcro security inside the case. I say "almost" because the Velcro does peel away from the inside of the case when I do this; it's just convenient not to have to remove the pouch as an extra step. However, the console will NOT come out of the pouch without removing the pouch from the case -- a step made easier by a small fabric pull-tab sewn into the top edge of the pouch. + The carrying handle is, as advertised, convenient. It's a best-of-both-worlds thick silicone (?) grippy-textured sleeve around a nylon webbing strap; the nylon webbing is strong enough to hold several times the weight, and the silicone wrap has more comfortable dimensions, texture, and squish. The strap is long/loose enough to be grabbed easily without scrabbling at the fabric to pick it up, but the webbing is flexible enough for the handle to lie flush against the edge of the case from the center to within half an inch of the edge. The ends of the webbing wrap around the hinge so they're sewn in place more securely; the interior of the hinge is covered with soft fabric to prevent any rough textures inside the case. It's a tiny thing, but a well-designed handle is a rare delight. + The zippers are metal, not plastic, with long but smooth metal zipper-pulls. They glide smoothly around the corners without tugging or fussy alignment. The way the zippers are placed causes them to retract slightly beyond the inner lip of the shell when the zipper is open, so the metal doesn't present a scratching danger when inserting or removing the console. Another tiny detail that delights when well-thought-out. + The stylus pen is a nice touch I wouldn't pay extra for, but do appreciate. It's one piece of hard plastic, made to look like a retractable ball-point pen (but doesn't retract) but with a less comfortable grip than most ball-points. The clip works, but is the same plastic as the rest and wouldn't take much pressure to snap off. As a stylus, it's cheap. As a bonus item, it's... nicer than the built-in stylus. Possibly more important than the free stylus are the two elastic pen loops at the edges of the game-storage flaps, one per flap. I can comfortably fit my metal-body Lamy 2000 fountain pen in either loop, although to close the case comfortably with the Lamy and the stylus (and games, charger, and console), the larger Lamy must go in the top flap to take advantage of the extra room; the case will close comfortably around the Lamy in the bottom flap without the stylus, but requires a little more pressure than I like with the Lamy in the bottom flap and the stylus stacked on top of it. However, since I don't intend to carry a metal fountain pen around in my 3DS case, this is merely an experiment to determine how large a stylus can fit in the case; the answer is that anything smaller than a Sharpie marker should fit. While the included stylus is only more comfortable than the stock stylus in that it's thicker, the ergonomic spirit of the bonus is preserved by the roominess of the pen loops and the way they are positioned against the top of the facing accessory pocket, where accessories are unlikely to compete with them for room. This is such a small thing it's down to nit-picking, but is possibly the set-apart feature I use and appreciate the most. + The zippered top accessory pocket, advertised as deep enough to hold the official power adapter, is DEEP. A ruler will sink in far enough to read half an inch at the zipper with nothing in the pocket, but given where the zipper and pocket material are sewn in, it could be filled to take up the entire upper half of the case, to a depth of nearly a full inch. This pocket is big enough to hold another portable game console; I can put my entire PSP in the main accessory pocket and still have room behind the top zipper -- and yes, the case will still zip up that way, with the 3DS XL in place. My PS Vita is a tighter squeeze side-to-side, but the same still applies. The game-storage flaps cut into that depth a little, but even with games in both flaps, there's room for the (non-folding) AmazonBasics adaptor, a USB charging cable, a small car USB adapter, and a 12,000 mAh battery (and the 3DS XL itself) without squeezing to zip the case. This is NOT a small difference. This is easily a make-or-break decision point. The small difference here is that the accessory pocket is made the same way as the console pouch: two layers of mesh with a wafer of foam between them. Since the game carts face up into this space, and I suppose could theoretically be cracked by too much pressure against a hard surface like an adapter, that's a nice touch. (Also great if I actually planned to carry my PSP/PSV in there, I suppose.) * Storage for 16 games; unremarkable. Several other cases offer this in exactly the same manner: strips of mesh, edged in elastic, . The backs of the game-storage flaps are unpadded, with only the soft fabric to cushion them, but the roominess of the case and the padded console pouch help make up for this. I do appreciate the game pockets facing "up" when the case is held by the carry-handle. The pockets feel very snug and secure, but extra protection against games falling out is nice all the same. * When the handle is up, the zipper opening faces down. Accessories won't fall out if the accessory pocket is zipped; games won't fall out because the game pockets face up in this orientation. However, a few seconds of brisk shaking will break the hold of the Velcro with the weight of the console inside and send the console tumbling down out of the case. This is a neutral instead of a negative, though, because the same case design with an elastic strap instead of a Velcro pouch would drop the console long before the TakeCase will; I do mean it takes several seconds of intense jostling. It's probably best to ignore the double-pull nature of the zipper and close it all the way to one upper corner, instead of letting the zipper pulls meet in the middle front/bottom. * Other reviewers show their TakeCase arriving in its own box, with carry straps and a microfiber cloth. I received none of these. My TakeCase arrived bare in the shipping box, containing only the stylus-pen and a standard "Do Not Eat" dessicant packet. (Yum!) There's not even a place to attach an additional strap, and those reviews all seem to be from 2016, so I suspect those were features of an earlier version. Since I don't plan to take the TakeCase out of the house without putting it in a bag or backpack anyway, and given my point above about the potential for the console to fall out when the case is carried, I don't feel the loss of the strap all that keenly, and one receives free microfiber cloths with the purchase of everything from Apples to apples these days anyway. My kitten, however, is badly upset over the lack of the additional cardboard box. - ... I suppose one could wish for more padding on the back of the bottom game-storage flap, or inner material with more cushioning, as other reviewers have done. However, there's so much interior room here -- and the case is so correspondingly thick already -- that too much cushioning would be counterproductive. There's more focus on keeping things in place despite all the extra room, which side-steps the issue of things pressing too hard against the console. It would take work to overstuff the case to the point that interior cushioning would be useful, and more cushioning versus exterior impact would reduce the interior room that's clearly the focus here. It seems like an acceptable trade-off to me. CONCLUSION: I see several cases that look at least 9/10 as good as this one. I haven't yet seen one I like 10/10 as much, though. Many are less expensive, in some cases only 2/3 as much as this one, but none of those are the 9/10 as good ones. Don't choose this TakeCase if you want something small or slim, something with a wrist or shoulder strap, or something that will guarantee your otherwise-bare console against long drops onto hard floors. It's otherwise a great choice.

Bulky, but fits it all!
Definitely a well made and durable case. Having had it for several months now, I can say it has held up very well and was much higher quality than expected for the price. I love that the charger fits perfectly inside this case (admittedly, I have very few games and a larger library may make it more difficult) which makes it great for travel. I must say that this item is much bulkier than expected though. Given the size of a ds, I imagined the case would be small enough to fit in one of my larger purses so that I could safely carry my ds with me. The length of the case is about as expected, but the depth is much bigger than I ever would have imagined. The size is great so that you can fit all of your games and the charger, but do feel the bulk is worth mentioning. You'll definitely have to carry this either as a stand alone bag or throw it in a backpack/oversized tote.

The Best 3DS Case That I've Used
I've had a number of 3DS XL cases in the past, and this has been my favorite so far. It is not as impressive visually as my The Legend of Zelda Adventurer's Pouch Kit / New 3ds XL/ 3ds / 3ds XL /DS /DS XL Leather Pouch, but it is vastly more utilitarian. With the Zelda case I could only carry two spare games, and the 3DS XL just slid about inside the case as it was not well fitted to it. The TakeCase can carry up to eight games, a charger and a pair of earbuds with no trouble. It holds the 3DS XL very snuggly, but it is not difficult to either remove it or place it into the case. The case is very rugged, and has a semi-rigid exterior. Double zippers hold it closed, unlike the single-zipper design of my Zelda case. The case also comes with a shoulder strap that can be latched onto two hooks on the outside (along the "spine" of the case). This is very convenient, though it does look a little purse-like for my taste. I believe that it will have a great deal of appeal for people looking for a nondescript case that doesn't look too much like a case for a video game system, as it looks more or less like a case for a camera. The only negative point that I can think of is that it had a very strong, unpleasant smell when open initially. I left the case open when not in use for a few days, and the smell seems largely dissipated. The smell did not seem to linger on my 3DS or games. This is now my primary 3DS case, and I don't expect to use any other for the foreseeable future.

Overall good product except for center flap pockets.
The case is pretty spacious. Bottom half fits the 3DS XL while leaving the other half available for the charger and other things even with the center cartridge holder flap full. However this does leave the case taller than most cases. Overall the build quality is good, except for the center flap that holds the game cartridges. The stitching/gluing of the cartridge pockets were noticeably crooked and not spaced evenly. The outer edge pockets are smaller and can barely fit the cartridge. Not to sure how long it can last with the tight fit. This is the only major complaint, otherwise I would rate this product a 4-5 star easy. Its priced reasonably. There are officially Nintendo endorsed cases for around 20 and under. *Update: pics *Update 12/19/16: Customer support was fantastic. I was able to get a replacement and it looks great. 5 stars.

Exactly what I needed!!
I purchased the 2ds XL Pokeball Edition recently, and I was in dire need of a good case. I kept seeing bluegreen & orange cases everywhere until I saw TakeCase's Red, and I immediately knew that this is what I wanted to buy. Pros: - Carries up to 16 games (game slots are pretty snug, so I prefer placing 4 on each tab, and I only have 8 games anyway) - the Red Stylus is amazing! (it comes with a handy red stylus, which is great, since the stylus on the 2ds XL is a bit small) - Everything fits perfectly (there's even a bit of room left on the charger storage, to put money or earphones or something.) - The bag doesn't feel cheap (the make of this bag is pretty great! from the Zipper, to the Hard Shell, to the Handle Grip. The mesh game slots are a bit thin, but it still feels secure enough to hold games.) Cons - tad bit bulkier than expected (I'm just nitpicking at this point, because honestly the bulkiness is obviously there for a reason; to fit all the essential items. but this case did make my backpack look pretty bulky so just be aware of that.)

A Great New 3DS XL Case for Travel! UPDATED REVIEW!
Fantastic case! I was in the market for something that could hold my N3DSXL, a charger, and a few games. This case does not disappoint! There's a lot of options out there but I decided to go with this one or a few reasons. One, I liked the fact it doesn't draw attention to itself but still looks very nice. I also love the fluorescent orange interior and details. Probably the coolest feature though of this particular case (and the main reason why I went with it over all of the other options available) was the fact that the interior mesh piece is removable. With the charger in the case I was a little concerned with outside pressure on the case causing the charger and device to push together and cause damage. The only thing about this case, and it might be true to all cases of this type, is that there isn't a lot of padding inside of it. What I did to resolve this, and to give myself some piece of mind, was remove the mesh piece (simply velcroed into the interior of the case) and use a neoprene sleeve I had previously purchased instead. Now, there's plenty of padding around my N3DSXL and I feel confident that during the minimal traveling I do with my device it will be safe. If not for the ability to remove the mesh insert I might give this case a 4/5, but with that additional feature (and the "Lifetime Guarantee") I feel like the TakeCase New 3DS XL deserves all 5 stars. It's a well made, durable, and versatile case! UPDATE (08/03/17) Having the original TakeCase and being a big fan of it I was excited to know that they came out with another version that resolved one of the biggest issues I had with the original: the depth of the case. I purchased two of these, a green one for my wife, and a red one for me. They're identical, of course, except for the color difference. One of my previous concerns I mentioned in the original review was that the items inside the top portion of the case (like, the charger) would inadvertently be pressed into the 3DS XL, causing damage. It was a remote possibility, but I could tell it was pretty tight in there. Now, with this new version that TakeCase has produced this is no longer a concern. There's plenty of room inside the case now with the newer model. As you can see from the pictures the new version is much taller, so there's more space for your 3DS XL and storage in the top part of the case. The build quality seems about the same, very sturdy. The seams are nice and tight also. Another improvement is the addition of another "flap" to hold twice as games than the original case. This version also comes with a nice clip-on wrist strap that adds some security when holding the case. One thing I would like to see is a softer, fluffier interior material used for the inside of the case for shock absorption, as like with the original TakeCase the new ones don't have any padding inside the case and rely on the velcro-able insert to hold our 3DS XL in place. It's not a bad system, especially with the increased depth of the case preventing crush damage, but I think this would be the perfect case with a softer, fluffier material inside of it for added protection. As it stands I still use the neoprene sleeve I described in my original review after taking out the velcro insert. Anyway, it's a great case, and this company, while new, really seems to be in tune to what their fans want. Even the box the case ships in is awesome. Highly recommended!

Almost Perfect
Very glad I went with this case it is really great. Fits the new 3ds XL well and I love that the top pouch is actually big enough to hold the charger easily and has a zipper so stuff doesn't fall out in transit. The game pouches are the perfect size; my one game fits great. It is a bit on the thick side but that appears to be necessary if you want to fit the charger in there without things pushing up against each other... which I do so that is not a negative. The one real con is that the bottom pouch is slightly wider (about 1/4", maybe 1/3") than it needs to be to carry the 3ds XL, so I was a bit worried that it might shift around in transit causing slight wear to the sides over time. I haven't had it for very long but from the little use I have given it this doesn't look to be a problem, the 3ds seems to settle towards one side and then doesn't move around from what I can tell. This would be the one area of improvement I would recommend though. If they padded the inside walls of the bottom part with some thick foam stuff to make the 3ds fit really snugly in there then it would be absolutely perfect. If this does cause wear to the sides over long periods of use I'll come back here and update this but I don't think that'll happen.
