Beats the picnic style cardboard shakers. I would recommend these for anybody who uses shakers a lot because they seem very durable. The containers are plastic but easily cleaned and have a good feel in the hand. Great way to make it look like you're adulting even if you still live like a college kid.

They work great

These are good quality shakers. They're very easy to fill and they're big enough so you're not filling them all the time. At first I wasn't sure if I would use the side pour spouts but I made a large salad yesterday and used them for both salt and pepper and they worked great. If you do use the spouts make sure you pour slowly because they do distribute a lot of salt and pepper. As far as regular use they work as well as any shaker set and they look great too.

Great shakers

These are wonderful classy looking shakers. They hold plenty, and I love the "pour" feature when I'm cooking. They don't shake out too much or too little because the hole patterns for the salt and pepper are different. I've also dropped both of them a few times already (klutz!) and they don't even show it. No scratches or cracks and they didn't pour out all over the floor. Love love love these! UPDATE 1/23/16 - about 3 years later I can't believe 3 years has gone by (I'm going through my old reviews now and keep posting updates because I have nothing better to do in this snow storm lol).... anyway, I'm still using these shakers daily. I've dropped them countless times and they haven't broken. The pepper shaker looks brand new. The salt shaker has very slight clouding (these are plastic, not glass) but my husband is a salt nut (shame shame) so we use it A LOT more than the pepper one. Still looks good so I'm not replacing it anytime soon.

What a great innovation!!!!!

I love these! First, they are plastic so they won't break if accidentally knocked over and secondly, they won't scratch the surface of the stovetop. I love how they hold a good amount of salt and pepper that I don't have to always be refilling them. The pour spouts - what a wonderful idea! With one hand, you simply press the bottom of the spout and it opens up. Then you have the ability to pour either salt or pepper which is so handy! I find I use the spouts more than I thought I would; saves me from having to grab the containers out of the cupboard and pouring the products out that way. Love this invention!

Works Great! Holes Just Right Size

Works great! Does exactly what you want, lets you sprinkle the salt with great ease. Not sure why the other reviews think the holes are too small. If you use standard iodized salt (Mortons or otherwise) it works perfect. Doesn't let the salt come screaming out to oversalt your food, comes out "just right". The pour spout is a very lovely feature too! I don't use it that much so I don't have to refill it all the time, but it's very handy all the same!

Perfect for our intended use--cooking!

Perfect for baking and cooking! Since we cook almost daily, flavoring is taken care of during the meal prep so we rarely have need for a traditional salt shaker. I was looking for a salt shaker that had a spout but could be used as a shaker on the rare occasion that we needed one and the OXO was just about the only viable option. We were previously using the built-in shaker/pour option on the Kosher salt bottle that we buy from the store but we switched to using sea salt and also have a couple other types of salt on hand so a permanent container was warranted. I would prefer that the bottle be glass instead of plastic but it hasn't been an issue. I also thought it would be nicer if it were larger but I've since changed my mind because it's nice to switch out the salt more frequently since the sea salt starts to clump. Overall, I love this shaker and have been very happy with it!

Convenient and attractive

Works great! You really have to push the tab over to switch from salt to pepper, but that's not a deal breaker, as this is a terrific item to save space and keep the salt and pepper in the shaker, and not all over the place. Great for campers/camping, taking on picnics, etc. Glad I bought it.

They are pretty & functional.

I like these well enough. I couldn't really find a pair of dispensers that was exactly what I want, but these are great shakers. Oxo has a great reputation, and these are good quality. Just don't accidentally press the pour spout when you just need a sprinkle. ;) I do really like the look of them. The volume is on the generous side. They are glass, so I'm a little worried about breaking them, but they're good glass, if that makes sense. They're easy fill, & the tops screw on & off easily. The metal parts seem to be good quality also.

Pour and shake in one

This product arrived undamaged and on time. It is made of thick acrylic, and not glass. Some reviews said it is glass. The pics show it’s size as compared to a sharpie pen. It has twist off tops to refill. My favorite feature is the spout. You have the option to open it for pouring, or keep closed to use as a regular shaker. I use the regular “ground” pepper consistency. If you want a coarse ground probably best to just go with a pepper mill. This set is also attractive to keep on the table.
