Bought it on one-day sale
I have tried to become an audiophil. Bought a DAC, separate Class D speaker amp, another amp for headphones, and voila, I am in the world of audiophilia. However I was concerned with the number of PSUs, wires, connections, lack of dedicated subwoofer out (I used line-out from DAC), no crossover for subwoofer, no equalization of speakers and/or room, no 5.1, DTS or other decoding etc. So, when my DAC suddenly died I decided to go AV receiver way, and waited patiently for sales season. AV receivers manufacturers will have those sales, to get rid of perfectly good last year models, where you can get your device for half the price, that is 300 for 600MSRP. What is the difference between piecemeal audio components and AV receiver? Receiver gives you a fast DSP (equalization, subwoofer crossover, speaker distance, room correction) and a decoder for various multichannel formats. I use this 7.2 device in 2.1 confuguration, because there is no space in my room for back speakers (stairway well), and I don't want to mess with ceiling wires. Race for more speakers in my home ended at 2.1. Strongly suggest connecting a network cable and updating firmware on first start. Otherwise your setup might be inaccurate. Before you start - get Android or Apple "Yamaha AV Controller" and "Yamaha AV Setup" apps. It will save you some pain. Remote control in this receiver has a multitude of buttons which will confuse you. Insert YAPO mic and setup will start. Setup was quick and almost good. I only had to make speakers small - that's the only way to set a subwoofer crossover frequency, some ppl recommend 120Hz, as most speakers won't go lower. There is a way to go deeper with Manual setup (after auto), and tune speaker distances (mine were accurate). speaker levels (audio volume for each), even equalizer (decided to skip). Once you setup and start playing you audio, you can choose some more subtle options - bass, treble, dialog boost (they have 3 options for dialog to confuse you even more), lipsync delay etc. So, when I said a fast DSP, I meant it. I use my optical out from TV to Yamaha. There is no delay and no lipsync issues with doing so. If you are a true audiophil you would know that words cannot really convey the quality of sound, because subjectively people are affected by many things, they will say that expensive receiver will sound better than inexpensive, that MP3 is infinitely worse than FLAC, but when doing a "blind tests", all these prejudices are easily destroyed. So, I will point you to objective mesurement of Yamaha receiver, not this one, but close, Yamaha rx-v781, which was done by Archimago on his blogspot (ggl it). It turned out pretty good and comparable to a decicated DAC+speaker Amp. On a subjective note, I can tell you that headphone output is pretty good, can drive some headphones up to 150 Ohm, not sure if 300 Ohm Sennheisers will be driven properly. Wires and external PSUs are now gone, my AV cabinet is neat and empty, I have proper remote and Android remote control, my sound is pretty good. As for audiophilia - sky is the limit and certainly on a 300 budget you can do a lot worse. You are getting an integrated device which does many things right, but if you are willing to pay more (way more), then you can get cleaner DAC, much cleaner and more powerful amp etc etc

It's excellent. Very easy to set up
Bought this to replace another Yamaha receiver I've had for about 15 years. It's excellent. Very easy to set up, but has functions that are best used by younger people familiar with all the new technology. I use this receiver at only about 50% of its real capacity but - after having Yamaha receivers since the early '80s, I can't see 'fixing what ain't broke', IYGMD.. My ONLY (very small) beef is that the owner's manual comes on a DVD and, unless one wants to print out about 180+ pages, it's kind of a pain to have to go to the PC and read the manual. A full printed version should be with the unit. Other than that, I love this receiver!

Great Sound at a Great Value!
If this is installed in a cabinet, it WILL overheat and shutoff! I bought an AC Infinity AIRCOM T9 and the issue is solved. Great sound.

Unuasually long burn in and a lot of patience.
Initially, I wasn't happy with this unit. After a unusually long burn in process, (about a week) and multiple adjustments, the unit is performing well to my standards and taste. It was frustrating for the first week. The sound quality just wasn't what I wanted it to be. I have owned many receivers over the years and this unit was the hardest to dial in. Don't get me wrong; it was easy to set up initially, but the sound was all over the place until it burned in. This unit took a lot of patience.

Works beautifully with said TV
Upgraded from an Onkyo TX-SR608, which served me extremely well through the 1080p era. My 10 years old Samsung HDTV finally failed, so I upgraded to their latest QLED 4k display. Subsequently upgraded my AV receiver to be fully 4k compatible. Works beautifully with said TV, my PS4, DirecTV STB, HTPC and even my ancient PS3. Sound IS crisp, clear and robust. Setup is easy and room filling audio is the norm. Love that this receiver runs MUCH cooler than the SR608, which I ran with temperature sensitive PC case fans for years. This is a fantastic receiver for the price, no question.

Fantastic. Upgraded from RX-V673 as I suspect the HDMI circuit board failed. This receiver paired with my LG 65" OLED 4K Ultra TV and my Samsung 4K Ultra Blu-Ray plyer is sick. Buy good HDMI 2.0 cables and update firmware on all components. The sound difference is dramatic.

Another solid product from Yamaha
Great mid-range Yamaha receiver. I'm using it as a 5.1, not a 7.2, and mostly for TV viewing. Plenty of power, reasonably easy to use (I ignore most of the buttons on the remote), and the YPAO feature is very nice. I've owned Yamaha A/V products for over 40 years, and would be hard pressed to think of a reason to go with any other manufacturer. This product is another winner.

This receiver is well built and the sound is amazing. I linked it to my echo dot and now I don't need the remote. A must for those that love music and movies!

Really Great AV Receiver
I just replaced a Yamaha receiver with this new one. The one I previously had was 12 years old and set up for THX surround which doesn't seem to be used much anymore. This new Yamaha RX-V683BL really rocks. I love the fact that it can be set up via an Android app on my phone. It has really clean sound. I only have one complaint: for whatever reason, they didn't put a switched outlet on the back. On all my previous receivers, htey had one. Now, I have to have my sub-woofer on at all times which I don't like to do. Other than that, this receiver is great.

Flawless Product, Easy to Install, Great Customer Service!
Just replaced my Yamaha RX-483 with this one. Amazing receiver, easiest electronic component I have ever set up. . Plugged in all the components and i didn't even need to program it for my 4K screen, my universal remote or anything else. It worked flawlessly! When I called their customer service about how to hook up a transmitter to it for a new wireless headset I had just purchased they were great help there. (Headset company does not list a customer service number. Yamaha is one of three electronics companies that, in my opinion, have the best customer service out there).
