I searched high & low for the LOWEST decibel noise rating. After returning a different unit, I decided to buy this based purely on customer reviews and ratings. It is indeed pretty quiet compared to my last two units. The blower fan is REALLY REALLY quiet. It's the AC compressor that makes the only noise of concern. It sounds like a refrigerator compressor from the 70's. Meaning you can hear it, but it is definitely bearable. I will be able to sleep at night with this one. Seems like they could have insulated the compressor a little better, but this is the way it goes! And I believe this is as good as it gets, my reason for 5 stars.

I have been using this for about ten days now. On a hot day, it kept a 400 sq foot room at around 72-74 degrees. It took about 2-3 hours to get that cool though since the room is very open. Set-up took about 30 minutes. The instruction book is a bit unclear when it comes to setting up the window pane section, but after a bit of examination you can figure it out. It is big and bulky, but I have moved it between rooms before without too much trouble. I wouldn't suggest doing this often though as it is pretty inconvenient. If I had a second plastic window piece that I could just leave it in two different windows, I would probably move it more often. The hose really blasts a lot of heat out of the window. This makes the hose slightly warm, so I am considering buying some insulation to wrap it in so that less heat stays in the room via the output hose. I do not find the noise level to be too bad. You can certainly hear it when the compressor kicks on, but I still find it slightly quieter than the box fan I had running in my window before. Overall, very satisfied thus far. Really making a big difference in my comfort level.

I researched this air conditioner for months. I am so glad I purchased it!!! It is so efficient and lives up to its name QUIET COOL. It truly is. It cools my living room, dining room and kitchen so well and no need to turn up tv or conversations. It has an economy mode and just a fan mode as well. I love this unit and is not ugly nor bulky. Looks great in the living room. Warranty is great. 1 yr everything 3 yrs parts and 5 yrs for compressor. I highly recommend this unit!!!

This is an overall excellent product. Easy to install, very quiet, works great, looks good. What else could one want. Would give 6 stars if allowed. One caveat--I had trouble with condensation issues. The piece that came with the unit that is supposed to fit on the spout attached to the unit came was damaged. Called customer service, and they kindly offered to have a new part sent out when available. Instead, I came up with a simple work around: got a 2 foot long 1/2 inch vinyl tube from the plumbing department of my local hardware store and a small bucket. Slipped the tube right on the spout and placed the other end in a small bucket. Fix cost: under $5. Time involved once the parts were acquired: less than 2 minutes.

This the 3rd portable AC I have purchased. This one is the best! Quiet, easy to install, compact (requires less space than my other 2) and easy to use. What more do you need? All portable ACs make noise since they have a compressor right there in the room. This one is not so annoying that you can actually sleep with it next to you. The compressor does make noise, but it doesn't jolt you when it kicks in. Get this one if you are a light sleeper. Very good design.

This last week in WI has been brutal. Most of the days were in the mid-90s. I’m thrilled to say Emerson pulled their weight quite nicely! It’s SUPER easy to install! I’m fact, I installed it within 5 mins. The only thing I didn’t love about this product is that you need to CUT one of the sliding pieces that fit in your window. The 2 pieces are exactly the same size (so the one with the hole for ventilation - the hole is covered by the other one). It’s easy to actually cut, my buddy used a handsaw, but it’s just a pain. It would’ve been MUCH NICER if they’d just included the 3 pieces like most portable a/c units do. 🙂😉

I’ve waited until summer was over for us to post this review. We purchased this unit for our kitchen. We normally use window units, but our kitchen has none, so rather than put in a window we simply vented this out the wall like a dryer vent. We were nervous since there weren’t many reviews, but we couldn’t be happier with this product. Though it is slightly more expensive than other units in its range, we think the extra cost was worth it. The materials, fit, and finish for this Emerson just look and feel a cut above what you’d expect. Installation for us was very straightforward. As I said, we vented directly through the exterior wall, so I can’t speak to how easy or effective the set up for window exhaust might be. Regarding operation, the unit was more than enough to keep the kitchen cool even with ovens baking or the dishwasher running. Product details state it is designed for rooms up to 150 sq. ft. (which is about the size of our kitchen), but it could easily handle a room twice that size, as other reviewers have shared. It’s controls are simple and intuitive; we haven’t used the remote control, but I have no doubt it would function appropriately. For us, the greatest benefit was the low noise level. A couple of reviews claim this unit is too loud; this was NOT our experience. I suppose if you’ve only ever had central air, it might take getting used to, but for those who’ve grown up with window AC, this unit is a dream. The fan is quieter than a window unit, but it’s not just the volume of the noise, it’s the type of noise. With a window AC, you get the vibrating/pulsing hum that resonates through the window and wall, whereas with this stand-alone unit, it just sounds like air blowing. Another review correctly described it as a softer “white noise.” We knew of these stand-alone ACs, but this is the first one we’ve ever had in our home. This unit has single-handedly convinced us that this is the way to go; as our window units die, we will be replacing them with these Emersons. The only real drawback is the footprint on your floor space versus a window unit, but we feel the benefits are worth it. We whole-heartedly give this product 5 stars. NOTE: When researching for this purchase, we were surprised by the number of people that misunderstand the draining process for AC units. All AC units create condensation; on window units this is simply drained out the back onto the ground and you don’t have to worry about it. For these stand-alone types, most of the condensation is vented with the exhaust, but with heavy use or in areas of high humidity, sometimes it can’t keep up, so it must collect the condensation in a reservoir. Once this reservoir becomes full the unit will stop until it is emptied so that it doesn’t leak all over the floor; simply drain the reservoir and you’re back in business. Many people seem caught off guard by this and get upset; we even saw one reviewer complain about it as a design flaw. If you’re looking at purchasing a stand-alone AC, this is just part of it. It’s the price you pay for having a “portable” air conditioner. If you can’t handle a basic maintenance step like emptying the reservoir, maybe you should look elsewhere for a less labor-intensive appliance.

Very nice design and seems to work well. Simple to set up. Quiet? No, it’s not quiet. I use headphones to watch TV while it’s running. It is quiet enough to sleep and provides good background 'white' noise. The compressor does not grind, it's hums louder than the fan, but it's still just a hum. I have to update! It has been working great. It is actually a lot quieter than another brand I have (but I still can't say it's 'quiet'). In fairness the other one is 14000 BTU, but this Emerson seems to do as well cooling as the other even though it's only rated for 150 sq ft. My bedroom suite must be about 350 sq feet and the Emerson performs very well. I've also enjoyed discovering a couple other features. It has sleep mode as well as eco mode. Eco mode seems to turn it on and off, not just the fan, but the entire ac. That's a good thing. Others leave the fan running continuously and just turns the compressor on and off. The sleep mode is nice. It dims the light and shuts it down after a long period cool temps. It works so you can go to sleep with the ac on, but let it shut down when the nighttime temps are cool enough. I'm no an Emerson employee and I have no expertise in HVAC, so you'd have to verify any of my comments by reading the instructions. All I can say is that over the last two months, I've become very pleased with this purchase and would do it again. If I replace the 14000 BTU unit (other brand) I will buy an Emerson Quiet Kool model.

Amazing amazing product. It's a little pricey but it is worth every penny. I use it cool my bedroom at night so I dont have to lower the AC on the whole house . I can't speak for using it in a living room, but for my bedroom it does a great job at lower the temps. If you like a very cold room, I suggest lowering it to the lowest temp at 62 degrees. It's very easy to set it up on a window with the included attachment. And easy to take down every day if you leave for work. I hardly ever have to empty it of water as it seems to empty most of it on its own. I've been using it for about 10 months now, and its stood the test of time so far. It's not loud at all. It has a small sound when the compressor kicks on, but nothing bad at all. I would suggest buying extra window sealent foam, as it'll help create an air tight seal on your window attachment, and will help remove any gaps. And the whole thing is portable! I would not suggest going below 14000 btu if you want a cold room. I definitely recommend this.

I researched portable AC's for over a month, read thousands of reviews and looked at multiple machines from multiple retailers and settled on this one. I absolutely think I made the best choice. Very glad I chose a 14,000 BTU model, worth a few extra dollars for the increased cooling power. I Only had this a week now, and even though were not in the hot summer season, I tested a few times and extremely happy with it. At the highest setting it blows out a freezing arctic blast of cold air and circulates it very well. Very easy to figure out how to use, very easy to roll around on a hardwood floor and roll into my closet for storage. My only slight frustration was hooking up the vent hose to the machine, the hose seems to be slightly too big to attach to the connector, it took a lot more effort than it should have but I eventually got it. Hooking up the vent to the window panel was easier as it fit in the connector with ease. I'm still not sure if the struggle to connect the hose is a design defect or just my own user error, but it would never put me off from recommending this machine. NOISE LEVEL: When I first turn it on it seemed loud but after a few minutes the noise cycled way down and it seemed quiet and not intrusive at all. A lot quieter than I expected. Once the weather gets hotter and I use this more I will update my review.
