Excellent usb hub
I just got this yesterday because the regular apple adapter with only one USB port didn't have enough functionality for me. This little dongle does everything! I wish I would've purchased it sooner because I wasted my money buying a USB-C to HDMI cable, an SD card reader, and a USB adapter. If I had seen this sooner I would've saved myself so much money. The build quality is great, it looks really nice next to my 15" MacBook Pro (Space Grey), and they even include a little felt pouch to keep it in when you're not using it. So far I've tried the USB 3.0 ports which worked perfectly and I've also utilized the HDMI port which works better than my dedicated USB-C to HDMI cable. The picture quality is great and sound is transferred through it as well. The price on this dongle is a little steep but when you add up how much it would cost to buy one of everything that this dongle has you're actually saving money and getting a brand name product rather than a Chinese knock off that will take 2 months to come.

Keyboard/mouse are lagging, but this is due to Ethernet RFI
I used this to connect a 2017 13" MacBook Pro to a 1Gbps Ethernet cable, HDMI display cable, and wireless keyboard/mouse dongle. The Ethernet and display worked well. The upload and download speed were over 800 Mbps with the Netflix FAST Internet Speed Test. The HDMI display was QHD (2560x1440@55Hz), and there were no issues. There was a random lag with the keyboard/mouse. As it turns out, this was due to radio-frequency-interference (RFI) generated by the Ethernet current. The solution was to connect the keyboard/mouse transceiver dongle to the Anker hub using a USB extension cable. This moves it away from the Ethernet RFI noise. The device gets a bit warm, but definitely does not get hot. No drivers needed to be installed, and the device seamlessly supports the "clamshell" mode, where the macbook display is closed, the keyboard, mouse, display, and network are supported by the Anker hub, and power is supplied via the second USB C port on the macbook. I also attached a USB memory stick and Yeti Blue microphone to the other two USB ports on the Anker hub, and they worked perfectly as well.

Great gadget for the new MacBook Air
I just got a new MacBook Air 2018. It has no USB ports, only Thunderbolt. I needed something to plug in my ethernet cable (for my hardwired connection--as I use the computer to teach online classes), my printer, my backup drives and my second monitor (HDMI). This was one of the only items I found that had all the different kinds of ports I needed and enough USB ports to meet my needs.

Invaluable problem solver for docking your MacBook Pro to your monitor/keyboard/LAN
Just got my work-issued MacBook Pro and noticed that it has only USB-C ports so I was going to have to find some way to connect it to my keyboard, monitor, network, and external webcam. This Anker adapter is the perfect solution! HDMI video and sound quality is as good as can be expected and my keyboard and mouse work fine even though they are KVM-switched before going into the Anker adapter. Slightly warm to the touch, this adapter runs cool considering the immense amount of data it passes when all the ports are under heavy use. The Anker adapter is like a complete docking station solution for the MacBook at the cost of only one of the four USB-C ports! I could not be more pleased with this purchase.

Very Reliable
This is the second USB-C hub I have owned before. The previous was a Dell brand, which I thought would be a good product for me as I am using a Dell XPS 13 laptop, however the dang thing died after 2 months of light use. Dell was not able to fix the problem for me. When I saw Anker had their own solution to a USB-C hub, I knew I needed it. I use an external monitor (1080p) for school with a wired keyboard (see picture). I also really like having the option of plugging into ethernet directly. This is the perfect product for my needs. It has been a super reliable plug-and-play hub. The device does not get hot at all (I'm not even sure I'd call it warm) even when using 2 USB ports and the HDMI port for a couple of hours. The size is perfect, and it plugs snugly into the USB-C port on my Dell. There is a small indicator light on the hub which does not bother at all when all lights are off. I'm really very happy with this product, it has been very worth the money for me.

customer service
The customer service at Anker was fantastic! They reached out to me immediately upon my seeing my review and offered to replace the device. I chose the 7-in-1 hub and it works great! They also sent me an ethernet to USB adapter as well! While I wish it was an adapter to USB-C, it works great and I can plug it into the hub. I can't tell you how fabulous the customer service at Anker is! And I can't wait until I need another device so I can get one of theirs (that's a little weird, isn't it? but it's true). I liked there was an adapter for an ethernet cord - that was one of the 2 things I *really* needed (the 7-in-1 had slots for memory cards which would have been nice... except no ethernet port). Unfortunately... The USB to usb-C adapter doesn't work with an iPad. Now that I've seen that it won't work as an adapter between an iPad and a MacBook Pro, it makes sense that when I was using it with an ethernet cord attached directly to the modem didn't work either. I plug the modem directly into the laptop during neighborhood wi-fi "rush hour" (we're very crowded and lots of wifi users all at once crowds the signals - or so I was told) - it speeds things up a little. When I used the Anker 5-in-1 to adapt the ethernet to the laptop, nothing changed. Even simple emails wouldn't download! The need to adapt all these things is new since I got a new laptop that doesn't have any USB ports. My old laptop had an ethernet to thunderbolt adapter and it worked great for the crowded wifi times. Now that I've seen that the USB adapters don't seem to work - at least not with an Ipad (to back up or charge - it would turn the battery icon green for a second after which it would say "not charging" at the top of the iPad. I bought Anker after I read a good review when I was researching hubs. I can only hope this is a defective unit.

Update to Realtek driver!
Plugged this device into an XPS15 and Windows 10 recognized it. Did an internet speed test and only got around 250 Mbps up and down. Updated the driver to Realtek’s USB Gbe driver (Amazon won’t let me post link) and the speeds were over 850Mbps up and down!

Small, well designed, and works flawlessly
Definitely smaller than those units that allow pass-though power, but definitely worth the smaller size. I've run my external USB 3 drives off it with no problems, and it did not even get warm. The excessive heat was indeed my reason for looking for a replacement to my HooToo unit. And although I liked the HooToo, it did not have Ethernet, so that was one more adapter I had to carry. This is less weight, less heat, no annoying lights - it just works. No issues with 1080p HDMI (I have not tried higher), and no issues negotiating to Gigabit Ethernet on my LAN. The carrying case is a nice touch - it has a pocket for the hub and a tuck-in pouch for the cable. Nicely designed.

Product is excellent quality and easy to use
Product arrived in excellent condition and so far works fine. I have not tried the HDMI port yet, but will do so soon. There were other competitor products that had different features (some perhaps that might be nice to have), but my previous experience with Anker products and quality led me to order this product. I would definitely recommend.

Works Perfectly with 2017 MacBook Pro 13"
Needed USB v2 capability, along with ethernet and HDMI connections for my new MacBook Pro 2017, which came equipped with just four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports. While this unit only supports up to 5Gbps data rates, that is more than enough for my purposes. Higher rates up to the 40Gbps supported by Thunderbolt 3 will require a dock (this unit is a hub) that typically costs in the range of $200-$300. Build quality appears to be excellent and consistant with what I have come to expect from Anker. Functionally, this hub works perfectly and I have had zero problems with anything that I have connected to it, including a 7-port USB v2 hub. Overall, I am very pleased. Update: Had an issue with jerky movement of a USB wireless mouse. Apparently, there is an RFI issue with the ethernet port that interferes with the mouse wireless receiver when plugged into one of the adjoining USB ports. Moved the receiver to a standard 4 port USB 3.1 hub that was, in turn, connected to one of the same Anker USB ports via a six inch cable. The extra distance eliminates the problem. Still very impressed and pleased after a couple of months of use.
