Makes excellent snow-like ice, but can be modified to make ice chips.
After buying two manual ice crushers that fell apart in a month, I decided to spend the money and get something with more durability, and a motor. I would not call this an "Ice Crusher" it definitely "shaves" the ice into a snow-like powder. You can open the device and adjust the shaving blade to make the ice more "chip-like". I'm not certain if this voids the warranty or not. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK: This requires removing the two small phillips screws that hold in the safety switch, and, underneath that, a phillips screw that holds the ice chute to the front of the device. On the underside of the chute, there is a allen screw (4mm) that you remove, and then the chute pulls off. Next, there are two allen head screws that secure the blade, loosen these screws and push the blade forward so it protrudes more. This will allow the machine to create larger chunks of ice. Tighten up the screws and re-assemble the machine (be sure you position the safety switch correctly so it will allow the machine to turn on when the handle is lowered). In addition to creating the more chip-like ice, this also had the effect of making a much larger mess as the ice is exiting from the machine, so be ready. I have only used it one time since performing this modification, but I'm happy with the results. However, I have yet to see if this creates problems with the motor, blade, or general safety of the equipment. Edit/Update: After about a year's worth of use, the machine is still working great, and I'm very happy with it. However, I did have a problem where I got "greedy" and tried to adjust the ice cutting blade further out than I did the first time. This worked OK a few times, and then the blade "slipped". It was not a catastrophic failure, but the blade moved outward (due to centrifugal force) and started to score the inside of the aluminum cover. Upon reflection the operation was slightly louder when this was happening. I ended up with a mouthful of aluminum shavings mixed with my ice, not good. I moved the blade back into the lightly extended position and also used some blue loctite on the retaining screws' threads. This was about 6 months ago, and I have not had a problem since. One note, I wipe down the machine with a cloth after each use, but there still has been a slight buildup of "muck" in the hinged area of the handle. I occasionally use a chopstick and the cleaning cloth to swab it out. Also, the unit will slowly leak water even with a wipe down, so keep a rag under it or store it in a place that is not effected by water. And finally, I used a Dremel to cut off the front end of the machine, added two clamps on opposite sides of the ejection port and have it dispense ice into a ziplock bag. This seems to work much better than the "tray" that comes with the unit.

Don’t understand the mixed reviews. I am buying a second one for my kids house! LOVE THIS MACHINE!
I am not sure why there are so many mixed reviews on this machine. I have severe dry mouth from my meds and the only thing that helps is shaved ice, I would say I easily shave at least ten pounds of ice a day. I previously owned another brand of ice shaver but very similar to this one it lasted about two years. That being said this machines seems to shave ice like a professional machine it is quieter then my last machine and shaves the ice cubes better. A few tips that work well for me is to put ice cubes in the machine to start cooling it down this helps to insure you will have very fluffy shaved ice, I find once cooled I mine as well shave what I need for most of the day. I put mine is foam cups or pre chill a large bubba mug or any cup meant to keep your drink cold. Then I fill with the shaved ice and store in the freezer till I am ready to use it. This helps to have the coldest shaved ice and it doesn’t melt as fast. As my family would say I have it down to a science! For those who talk about the mess I put a towel under mine and have leRned how to turn the bowl while shaving to reduce the over spray. But keep in mind a professional machine could run $1000 dollars or more.

Great value & easy to use!
We bought this for my company- and it’s a hit. It’s super easy to use. You out ice cubes, of any shape in into the grinder and bam! It really does come out with a fine snow like texture. It’s a great value, super easy to use. My only bit of warning would be to put a towel down to soak up some of the ice that makes it through the crushing. It’s a really fantastic buy overall.

Works Great
Great purchase. My friends keep borrowing it for parties. Its loud and a bit messy but shaves a bunch of ice fast. It's nice not having to freeze a bunch of special ice hockey pocks like our old machine.
Pretty Swag
Shaved ice in seconds. Very well built
This is a solid machine that shaves ice in seconds. There is some way to it and it feels like it will last 20 years

Has a (safty) switch in handle paddle
We JUST got this in, so first off we will be using this asap seeing it's so hot outside and the kids want something cold to cool them down. Dogs like it also (without the syrup obviously) make your own versions for your dogs toppings. Anyhow, easy set up liked that it has a off switch when the paddle handle us up sk the blade doesn't keep going. Has a stainless steel bowl, so if your left handled this is real easy but even a right handed person should be able to use this just as well while turning the bowl in left hand. Soft fluffy outcome, the one thing I will have to look into is blade replacement parts. Other then that, this was a grate purchase so far!. 🍧

Ice chewers dream come true!
Love it. I wish I could give it move stars. Seriously this is my favorite kitchen gadget and I didnt need to find space in the cubborad because we use it every day. Pour a diet soda over the ice flakes and it is slurpee! It works perfect. Great quality. Not cheap plastic and you can throw in normal ice cubes, not like the cheap machines you have to make special ice cups and think about in advance. Just throw in ice cubes and in 10 seconds it is done.

Awesome ice shaver!
I absolutely love this ice shaver. It shaves my regular ice cubes from my freezer superfast and results in a very fluffy snow like texture. Since we’ve gotten it, we use it every single day. My kids love it! We use fruit juices or concentrated fruit juice instead of the snowcone syrup for a healthier alternative. There are two negatives of this ice shaver. (1) First, it is very loud. Fortunately, it is so fast that you don’t have to worry about how loud it is for very long. My kitties were scared at first. But now they completely ignore all the noise. (2) Second, it can be a little bit messy. The shaved ice always seems to splatter towards the right side of the icemaker. This is easily solved however. I simply put a paper towel leaning up against the right side and extending a little bit out. This catches all of the ice that comes flying out of the shaver.

Best Snow Cone machine for a low price!
This is the most dependable reliable snow cone machine you can buy. Its solid metal unlike most that are plastic. I bought 2 other snow cone machines before I purchased this one. I returned both because they made snow chips not snow ice. The others it was like crunchy ice but this one makes a snowy like snow cone. As good as the very expensive machines. I eat at least 1 snow cone a day. I love them. So trust me this is the snow cone machine you want.
