Easy and accurate continuity and pair testing
I have used a number of circuit and pair testers and this is the best I have used. I had an old one that is still good, but a POE circuit burned out pair 3, 5&6 on the test wand. So I ordered this Meterk version. Exactly the same with the change in color. Reliable easy continuity testing which is a nice plus a lot of testers do not offer. Very good T568 std testing and it tells you which end is wrong. Big time and money saver. Reterminate the wrong end and loose time and as much as $5:00 on wasting a RJ45 (of course that much is if one has to buy retail) or RJ11connector. Very good tool. Buy it, you will be glad you did!!!

Works Fine
This is probably not for a pro who does this for a living day in and day out, but it works just fine for a guy at home trying to trace which wire is the one from the internet box in the garage. The tone can be a little weak, but if you have a little patience, you'll find the correct line. I'll keep this handy, as I have a few more lines to trace. All-in-all, I'm pleased with my purchase.

Works well as a wire tracer and a great value
I bought this to trace thermostat wires in my wall to see where to drill/cut to fish more wires (using a Klein 50-foot Fish Tape). It was a great success. The manual is pretty awful though--the TONE setting is not even documented. After some trial and error I figured out that the SCAN setting is actually the equivalent of the TONE setting on other products and the TONE setting on this product is something else--probably for phone line testing. The SCAN setting worked very well. As other people have noted on Amazon, you get the best results if you connect one probe to one wire to trace and the other probe to ground. I used an extension cord to get a ground from a nearby outlet. The value that you get with this item is impressive. For only a couple dollars more than the cheapest wire tracer on Amazon, you get the addition of a light, headphones, and extra functions (but I only used the SCAN function). The light and headphones already came in handy. You can use the SCAN function without headphones, but with headphones it is a little bit easier to make out a very faint signal if there are obstructions between the tracer and the wire.

it worked great for me
I bought this to find a network cable that I thought was disconnected at the switch. When you have 50 unlabeled cat 5 cables, this helps. I found the cable and then was able to use this to find the problem with the cat 5 wire. One of the wires from the connector pulled out slightly. People that say this is a weak sound and doesn't work, it worked great for me. The wire start and test area was about 75 to 100' away. This saved our business about a $100 dollar visit from the network techs.

Worked great. Used the cable testing mode to test all ...
Bought a new house and had cat5 cabling installed but installers did not terminate or label all cables. Used the tone feature to identify unlabeled and un-terminated cables. Worked great. Used the cable testing mode to test all the cables. Identified a wiring fault in a cat5 cable and was able to fix it because the tool showed me that wire 6 (of 8) was not working. Just needed to punch down wire 6 at the outlet. Came with batteries. I am a rookie when it comes to wiring but this tool made things simple.

A very handy tool.
A very handy tool. I recently bought a 6yo house and did not know where the existing Ethernet cables were going where. This tool solved that question. Since I am one of the last few folks with a land line (though VOIP), this tool easily identified the phone line in a junction box full of burglar alarm wires. This tool is rather light duty so not for the pro but great for the DIY.

For 60 or 70 bucks i cant really complain about much great solid product and gets the job done better then ...
So I am a network engineer and have been using Fluke products with my company for some time. I bought this for home use as im wiring up my own house as it was being built. Honestly the plastic looks and feels cheap, but that doesnt really matter. I dont know if the fluke product is defective but if im toning out a line with the wand with this product, i can then plug directly into the wand and it automatically lets me test the wire setup. the Fluke product i had to go back to the main toner, which working in a hospital is really time consuming as it is quite large and there are many network closets. For 60 or 70 bucks i cant really complain about much great solid product and gets the job done better then i thought.

This single tool is replacing three tools that, 15yrs ago, I paid twice as much for each.
I had great luck with a wire crimper from this company, so I when was in the market for a wire-tracer I decided to use the same company. They were more expensive than other brands, but like I said when I find a company I like I tend to stick with their products; so while I can't speak comparatively between this and the cheaper brands, I can say that I feel that the price I paid is well worth it, especially given that it is replacing three other tools that, 15 years ago, EACH cost twice as much as I'm paying for this. The pros: 1) Solid english documentation with no "engrish" confusion, I can't stress enough what a big deal this is for me, as is such an EASY thing to get right, yet most chinese electronics companies fail to provide it! The doc is multilingual but I can only speak for the quality of the english documentation. 2) 9 volt batteries produces a strong clean signal for tracing. The tool this is replacing used a stack of the tiny watch batteries that were more expensive to replace, and typically wasn't something I had "on-hand". 3) Good sensitivity. Open wire was extremely loud, whereas jacketed wire was much less so. That's good, because it means that tone bleed to nearby wires is limited. This was a big failing of my last tool. 4) Continuity testing uses an LED that changes its brightness based on any impedance. 5) The built in LED "flash light" on the listening probe is very handy! The cons: 1) Lightweight injection molding casing. This is not worth a star to me, but it might be to some. Considering a tool like this would have cost over $100 fifteen years ago, I'm OK with injection molding for a tool that I only need to use a few times a year. If this is something you're going to use a lot, padding the sides with Sugru is still gonna be much cheaper than an equivalent "pro" tool would cost. 2) An RJ11 to Coaxial would have been a nice to have for wire-tracing Cable lines, but comparable models likewise did not include such a connector, so I can't ding a star for it. It will be easy enough to create myself. 3) The single included male/male RJ45 cable basically acts as a gender changer incase you want to test cables connected via a patch panel. My last tool came with two of these, since most patch-panel connections are female on both ends, only having one seems kind of missing that point, but like I said about the coaxial connector, similar tools also only come with the one male/male cable. It's easy enough to use a short ethernet cable for the same function (just make sure you test that cable it by-itself, first!). Pro/Con on based your perspective... 1) No auto-cutoff. My last tool had automatic power-off on both ends, and since it used the watch style batteries, that probably extended their life considerably, BUT it also never failed to cut-off just about the time I had crawled to wherever it was I had to go to do the tracing! So using it inevitably turned into a two man job. Since this device uses 9 volt batteries, if you forget, and leave it on, meh, you just replace the battery(s). 2) The battery cover uses a screw down cover. Since the injection molded case is very lightweight this is probably a good thing, as a clip style would probably easily break and/or get lost, but it's always that extra step to change the battery... All and all, for me, this is the right tool for the job. PS: I am including one picture that shows the included RJ45 male/male wire not shown in the existing pictures.

Materials feels kind of low quality but it is very functional.
As a standard cable test, it works great. As a product improvement, would be nice have an indicator that cable has "Passed" instead of the LED lights just scanning in a loop. The toner works, allowing me to test wire continuity easily. Not a very big deal but I didn't like the tight battery fit in the toner. It took some tries and effort to push and keep the wires in so that I can close the battery cover.

This is a great tool for the home enthusiast
This is a great tool for the home enthusiast. my new home has a dozen CAT-6 running GKW and labeled in smeared sharpie (mostly in Spanish as well). I am able to sus out any of the cables as needed and this set has been extremely helpful.
