I bought this as a graduation gift for my husband who is graduating from his doctorate program and entering the workforce as an upgrade to his beat up backpack. I figured this would be perfect for the office and for taking to seminars. It is professional looking without being too fancy looking. It looks just as pictured and is actually a little larger than I expected it to be, which isn't a bad thing. Also, if anyone is wondering, the lifetime warranty applies if you buy a Timbuk2 product from Amazon if it is sold and shipped by Amazon. I contacted Timbuk2 to confirm.
Perfect size. I didn't want a huge laptop bag, just something to carry my computer, the charge cable and block and a notebook. What I got carries all that and my iPad perfectly. I'm very happy with the thin size. I would say for airplane travel a larger backpack might be better, but for work commuting this is ideal.
I love this bag, it is exactly what I was looking for, I get compliments about it all the time. The only thing I don’t like is that the water bottle holder is too small for any water bottle that I own and will only accommodate a plastic disposable bottle
I recently decided that it was time to step up my travel game. I purchased a new carry on and this travel bag for some upcoming trips. The Timbuk2 The Closer Case was the perfect addition; it allowed me to carry the following items without feeling too cluttered quickly. I was able to fit my iPad, Noise Cancelling Headphones, keys, and digital camera all with additional room to spare, best of all everything was easily accessible. While this bag is not the biggest, it does allow you to store up to a 13" laptop although it may limit some of the other items you bring along. If you are a heavy traveler, it might be worth upgrading to the medium bag.
Bought in it small, jet black. Notes to help others: - The small comfortably fits my 13" Macbook Pro in the main compartment. It just *barely* fits into the zippered compartment within that, but that's fine with me since I don't worry too much about protecting mine from scratches or anything... - In the photo, the straps and borders almost look like they're brown. They're not, they're gray - The side pocket for water bottle is extremely tight. My 16 oz water fits but just barely. On the plus side, I definitely don't need to worry about it ever falling out
The bag is great. A bit on the small side if you are coming from a larger briefcase, but it is nice to limit the amount of stuff I carry all the time. The laptop pouch holds my 15" Macbook Pro with ease, and the luggage handle pocket works perfect. Highly recommend, as the quality is up to the level I expect with Timbuk2
I don't need to carry a lot in my work bag and the narrower bottom width of the Closer is just about right - not bulky at all. Love that the laptop is accessible without having to open the top flap. Same with iPhone in the zippered side pocket. Fits my 13 inch MacBook Pro (2017) comfortably but if it’s a bulkier model, might be challenging. And as the title says, it looks professional enough for work without being too fancy. I have a few Timbuk2 bags, and the quality is as expected (metal buckles!). The side neoprene pocket is pretty small; my slim Thermos flask barely fits, so hope it'll loosen up with use.
It certainly is small unlike the popular messenger bags. I have a 13 in laptop and I got the medium size so I could put more stuff and in case I get a larger laptop. Thank goodness I did because it was a bit tight. So it would be even more so with the small size. Having said all that I prefer this size otherwise I would have gone with a regular messenger bag or old school laptop bag. It’s narrow so it can’t stand on its own but I feel it’s worth the trade off for bulkiness. I read a lot of complaints about not enough pockets for business cards, pens, etc. It’s not like there are no pockets but I agree they could have put in a few more compartments. There is no formal place for pens but you can just clip it to one of the compartments. Overall it’s a great laptop bag that brings a modern look to the typical laptop bag and briefcase.
I ordered this bag to replace a heavy leather messenger bag for times that I travel. I have been using this for over 3 weeks now and it is a great bag! It is lightweight, and has lots of storage. I carry a 15" laptop in the padded pocket, and like the convenience of a zipper opening that allows me to extract the laptop without opening the whole flap - especially useful on a plane. I also like the features of a key pocket (again nice for travel when you left your car at the airport) and the water bottle holder. The bag looks great and is extremely useful for my daily needs, so now I use it all the time. My only minor complaint is that the liner of the shoulder strap pad is a little slick, so sometimes it slips off your shoulder easily if you are wearing something equally slick (i.e. nylon wind breaker), but this is very minor and does not take away from a great bag!
I love, love, love Timbuk2 bags. This was to be a replacement of a Timbuk2 messenger bag I have been using for the last 7 years flying around the world. Unfortunately it is much smaller than it looks in the pictures. I ordered the medium. It is very thin and would not even hold half as much as my old bag. It was beautifully made but would not have worked for me so I ended up returning it.
