Tricky Setup But Worth It!
At first I was unsure that I needed to replace my 10-year-old Onkyo receiver because it was doing such a great job. Boy am I glad I upgraded! Because there were so many features on this receiver, setup took several hours and one phone call to the dedicated TZ customer service line . They were very helpful. (My difficulty was partially the fault of my 2017 Samsung TV.) Be persistent because you will be rewarded with powerful, pristine sound from a full featured receiver.

great sound
This receiver gives you amazing sound. The THX feature is worth it as it adjusts levels so that you can hear the effect even at low volumes. I have very large speakers and this unit has no difficulty producing the sound with range and thundering lows without being boomy. Onkyo has truly made the next generation in this receiver. It is was better than the TX656 I tried last year that did sound as good as my 15 year old Onkyo receiver is wanted to replace.

Just What We Needed
Our 20 year old Onkyo receiver was starting to experience problems...it would occasionally give us a loud static sound randomly if the unit was left on too long. This new unit is lighter and has much more power, helping to give is the best sound out of our large dynamic speakers. Expensive, but definitely worth the money. Our tower speakers blow those surround sound little speakers out of the water when it comes to clarity and quality of sound.

Great for all your a/v needs.
Fantastic a/v reciever. Is sounds great, has a ton of features, lots of different inputs, is easy to use, easy to set up, and works well on all counts. The only issue I have ever had was the bluetooth wouldn't connect to my phone. After some research, I unplugged my reciever for 5 minutes and plugged it back in, causing a soft reboot of the whole syste. Never had an issue since. Zone two set up is a bit tricky to figure out how to set up (yes it has to be wired, but you can use a bluetooth transmitter to send the audio to zone two which is what I did)but once it is set up, it works great! Overall, I am very happy with this reciever.

Onkyo TX-RZ820 THX Certified Reciever.
We have had many Onkyo receivers over the years and we have always stuck with Onkyo because of the consistent performance they have given us. Our current Onkyo receiver is the TX-NR809. It has been an excellent receiver, but we quickly learned that it does not have the ability to do justice to all the nuances of the new 4K TV's that have recently become the rage. So, we purchased the TX-RZ820 which does have a complete 4K network and which, like the NR809, is also THX certified. It was the closest thing to the NR809 that we could find at a reasonable price. So far, so good, Plenty of hdmi outlets and excellent sound quality. It also has directions for setting up the speakers which is the same nice feature the NR809 had. There are a number of other features, some of which we will probably never use so I can't give you input in those areas. However, you can see what they are by looking at the specs for the RZ820. We would recommend this receiver. We've had it in service for a couple of months now without any problems.

Wow, what great customer advice over the phone!
It's a little complex to operate at first, but the customer service is phenomenal! This unit is hard wired for 2 rooms, plus one Wi-Fi,fed room, so it is a little hard to figure out, at first. Don't let the unit self-program the speaker balance, as I didn't like it. Customer service showed me how to override it and set it up to my tastes. I don't know if there are better units out there, but the price and the customer service can't be beat.

Excellent value at $600; very satisfied
Pros: AccuEQ works very well. Build quality is in the $1500.00 class. Very easy to use, with intelligently designed UI. Full set of pre-outs allows connection of external amps. Detachable power cord. Cons: Two subwoofer outputs are in parallel, so both subs will receive the same same EQ.

DO IT!
This thing is awesome! I put this purchase off for months because of the price and I wish I wouldn't have! I'm running 4 pairs of Klipsch AW 650's in our garage and our backyard and wow! Love this thing, haven't even figured out all the settings yet but the menu is super user friendly. Connecting the speaker wire is a pain if you aren't using banana plugs because they are close together but man alive is it worth it.

Nice upgrade from TX-NR809, but had an issue, now resolved.
My 809 (smaller home theater) was showing its age. Needed to be reset often and did not have 4K passthrough. This unit has a much simpler remote, better GUI, and an improved back panel. I'm hoping not to have the HDMI board issues which have been present in both my other Onkyo receivers. I have stayed with the brand due to overall performance compared to Yamaha and Panasonic, which I have also owned in the past. Despite their seeming inability to fix the board issues, Onkyo has stood behind their products, and fixed my 5010 (powers larger home theater) outside of warranty including 2 way shipping. This unit has a better warranty and the RZ series has dedicated customer service that I hope not to need. I will update this review if any problems due occur. Update: I was disappointed to find that the unit will not pass the Dolby vision signal from my Apple TV 4k. The forums say it is a handshake issue. I cam use it by connecting to the TV and using ARC, but I could do this with the 809. I may return the unit if Onkyo's customer service cannot help me. 1 star deducted. Okay, the 5th star is back. For anyone who has the same issues, I updated the firmware on the Apple TV, my Sony 900F, and the receiver. I then set the Apple TV to auto adjust and the TV to enhanced HDMI. This has fixed the problem. More complicated than it should have been, but working as it should now. Awesome sound AND picture.

Great receiver
All I can say is wow!!!!!! Woke my Klipsch R series up. Sounds great still adjusting everything in probably take a few weeks. I did try the microphone set up but didn’t like so I set it manually and sounds a lot better. Still this is no issue. Great picture great sound great product. Would recommend to anybody.
