Convenient USB connection so no power cables and most of all IT WORKS AWESOME!!! I have a 2015 Samsung 55" smart TV with only ONE, count them, ONE, audio output and it's an optical interface. So I tried the cheaper ADCs and NONE worked, but this one, it's a total champ and the sound delay is minuscule. Nice little package too.

The Avantree DAC does a great job. I am a professional musician, and sound quality is very important to me. The sound quality is excellent, and the separate volume control on the Avantree is a good feature to have. For $30, I am able to hook up my bluetooth speaker to my flatscreen TV, and the sound is clean and in stereo on most stations. I am thankful to have found this product before spending ten times the money on a soundbar. Please note: You may need a 1/8-inch-to-RCA adapter if you don't already have one.

Works flawlessly for newer Samsung TV with digital audio. For Samsung TV users turn off audio “Feedback” option in Advanced Settings. This option may interfere (with the audio) while watching internet based apps (Netflix).

I was on the fence, seeing DACs for near $10, but this won me over. Arrived as advertised, plugged everything in, and flipped to optical, it worked right away. High sound quality, dual output to the 3.5mm jack, and volume control should you need it (ie, if it’s going to speakers out of arm’s reach, turn them up and use the control on this to change volume. Otherwise, just max it out - no distortion or clipping or anything. Got mine for my xbox one x, setup was as simple as going to the audio settings and turning on the optical output, along with HDMI (even though it runs to a PC monitor, hence the need for this, that still seemed necessary to get it going). I’ve searched in vain for the one x’s sampling rate, I don’t think it’s 192 KHz, but at least I know this can handle everything. Mine runs to a mixing board, though you could certainly go directly to powered speakers or a sound system. I believe you can even do Dolby 5.1 and 7.1 through the optical, though I’d imagine if you can’t run the optical straight to a sound system , the analog conversion would reduce it to stereo regardless, so this is really for people without surround. My main deciding factor was that reviews for slightly cheaper DACs had one being replaced every other review.. I wanted it to work the first time. Seems like these tend to. Just be aware, it’s clear from the pics but you only get a micro USB cable to power it, you’ll need your own block or USB strip to power it. So much runs off USB power nowadays , I strongly recommend surge protectors with their own sets of USB outlets, for power-only connections like this, although USB-only strips that extend a PC’s total often include power-only ports as well. You can even power it from the xbox’s USB if you wanted, though that wouldn’t be my first choice. Overall: Well built, good looking, functions well, fair price, would recommend .

The unit is great and they show how to set your TV to the Optical PCM format you must use ! The frustration is in finding my smart LG TV audio menu options to make it work as it took several attempts to open one thing on the audio menu so another option suddenly showed up and sync audio opened a volume and I actually had to cut ON the optical output as no light was coming out as it should when you open the input little door ! I was very frustrated with my LG menu that hides options until you change something and magically another option shows up until the option to set the optical output to PCM option finally showed itself! I cannot even tell you what exactly I changed under audio settings where I started but keep at it and CHANGE audio setting until all options are revealed ! I used Creative TII 20 powered speakers that were used for $22 and wow what a nice difference ! I can now hear the sound when my window AC unit is on as before volume 75 was needed but it was to far from my ears as the white noise covered up those 6 watt speakers ? Very happy with this DAC unit , its a very well designed unit and all the needed cables were provided except I needed a 10foot 3.5mm stereo extension cable to move the speakers near my bed ! I can hear plainly now , my ears are fine by that AC window unit is loud ! Do not give up on your TV menu ,change things until the optical output PCM option is revealed , its there somewhere !

Excellent DAC product, exactly what I would have expected from Avantree. I used this converter to connect a pair of headphones to an older Sanyo flat screen TV that only provides audio output via a coaxial RCA digital audio interface. Using an RCA Y-splitter and a couple of RCA male-male patch cords from Amazon Basics, I was able to split the output of the TV between my sound bar and this DAC so that I don't have to disconnect one to use the other. The sound output was clear and crisp into my Audio-Technica ATH-M50x 32 ohm headphones, which I connected via the 3.5mm jack on the DAC. Volume control was a really nice plus, as the full output from my TV via the digital output was louder than I would like. The volume control on the DAC made it easy to dial down the sound level to the headphones to an enjoyable level. Bottom line, this product works very well for me and was extremely easy to install. However, I would suggest that Aventree make the product even better by using more readable colors with better contrast to label the on/off power switch and the coaxial/optical switch. The printing for these switches is small and I found the low-contrast color against the black plastic made it very hard to read, especially in subdued light. Other than that, this DAC is better than any of the other offerings I have tried, and I would highly recommend it. If I needed another one, I would not waste any time, I would just buy this DAC from Avantree. I'm looking forward to trying their Bluetooth 5.0 Oasis Plus products in the late summer once they start shipping, if they are anything like this DAC, they'll be awesome too.

I love this thing. It allowed me to use the optical out put from the back of my tv plugged into this device and converted into rca to my yamaha reciever. I could have spent hundreds or a thousand at least on a new tv plus new wall mount equip cause you gotta always buy a bigger tv if your gonna upgrade. or new sound reciever that accepted optical. Anyhow i can now watch tv with the enriched sound of my stereo and also game on my ps4 with better sound and base than just a stock tv. This is powered off the usb from my tv so all wires hidden i had rca cables pre run ib walls already.

Product saved me hundreds of dollars by avoiding buying a sound bar to work with the optical output from the tv. Converting to analog enables me to use the existing amp I paid hundreds of dollars for already. Thank you Avantree for such a great product. I cannot wait to buy other things you make and will be a walking advertisement for you from now on.

I bought this to hook up a subwoofer to our Samsung 6900. Our older Vizio tv had RCA outputs which made it easy, but not the Samsung. At first I was concerned because the Samsung audio menu options give you a choice of optical out or speakers but not both. When speakers are selected however, the optical output works as well so you can have both. Anyway we tried it out last night with an Amazon prime move and it worked perfectly. The volume control was particularly useful since the control on the subwoofer is hard to reach, and you have no volume control when using an optical out. Do remember to set your optical output format to PCM in the advanced audio settings. Overall I like this little box a lot and I hope it proves to be reliable.

Waited about 8 months before doing review as I wanted to also see if the device would hold up and it has. The sound quality is outstanding with no hiss or background noise. It has allowed me to hook an analog Pioneer stereo (with 12 inch speakers) to the TV and hear concerts, movies etc the way they should be heard and no longer through the tinny speakers of the TV or sound bar. For those with the older stereos with the "big" speakers, I would suggest this simple device will give you sound quality far richer, with more bass and louder then the TV add on sound bar systems. For example the kids when they heard the Imperial Walkers thumping across the frozen planet from Star Wars they begged their dad to get them an old system like mind so they could hear it the way I heard it in the theater so long ago.
