The recent negative reviews are opposite of my experience. As the recent adoptive parent of two young rescue kittens with a penchant for Christmas tree climbing, gift unwrapping, and other holiday destruction (or merriment, depending on your perspective), we set up three of these little gems to form a perimeter around the tree and gifts. We were truly blessed with a Christmas miracle in that the tree wasn't climbed and gifts were not unwrapped by nosy felines before Christmas morning. The SSScat comes packed with two pieces that must be put together. The motion detector section, and the can of compressed air. The motion detector portion of the SSScat can take a few tries to put on, but once you get the hang of it by ensuring the ring of the motion detector is pulled down directly over on the spray can, it's a cinch. An unintended benefit is that it works equally well to deter nosy adults and children from shaking presents under the tree. Happy Holidays!

I ended up getting two of these, one from Amazon, and one from Petco(Who price matched their website) This has effectively stopped the 3am door kicking/handle rattling from two boys who demand to be fed at that time. I did use some command hooks + rubber bands to keep them in place as the blast is enough to knock them over. I also did grab 2x AAA rechargable batteries from Ikea, so there hasn't been a need to change out the batteries yet

We've been struggling for years with a cat that feels he needs to eat all night long. He used to sleep in our room, but had to be banished once he began meowing loudly into our ears starting at 3 am and only stopping once he was fed. After his banishment, he'd sit outside our door and sing the song of his people all night long, only stopping to rattle the doorknob. We tried automatic feeders, locking him in another room, cat pheromone diffusers, and rigging up elaborate systems to block our door, but nothing worked. Finally, I ordered this out of desperation. The SSScat system arrived this weekend and I immediately cracked open its cardboard box and began the setup. It requires four AAA batteries, which I thankfully had, and the adjustable head easily fit onto the can of air. I had no trouble setting it up and nestled it in the corner under my doorknob. Last night I got my first full night of uninterrupted sleep in years! My only complaint with this is that I have no way of knowing when the can of air is running low. I ordered a refill can so I have one on hand for when it inevitably runs out because I'd rather not have to go several nights without the SSScat keeping my cat away from my door.

Works like a charm the cat was urinating on a $3,000 12ft x 16ft carpet. Unless you catch the cat in the act you should never reprimand them after because they'll become frightened of you and you still won't solve the problem. This motion sensing spray must have snagged her at least once or twice when we were not present. For 4 weeks no spots on the carpet I figured she learned her lesson so we took it off the carpet. She urinated twice that day in the exact spots. Immediately we put it back in place and it stopped. Because it is sensitive even we avoid the carpet LOL we have used the probably half the sprays by mistake. It's February 1st I've had the unit for more than 3+ months and though there are still is liquid in it, as well as the original batteries the cat is terrified of the carpet. AHH And she wants to be near me at all times, it's a sitting room no television so when I have guests I turn the unit off but she could clearly see it. As soon as she sets foot on the edge. I go and reach for the can which is under a cocktail table that guests generally can't see. You can try all kinds of things that just don't work. THIS WORKS and extremely well as long as you keep the cat leary of the unit.

We bought a new Wall Away chair and our two cats were determined to destroy it. Cat off wasn't working so we decided to give this a shot. We placed the can at an angle near the wall behind the chair to cover two sides. The first day our little girl set it off and ran like hell. She did keep slink/stalking the corner for a while afterward but hasn't attacked the chair since. Our Tomcat watched the event and steered clear for a couple of days. When he finally decided to claw the chair it was the exact same behavior. Neither of them have tried to claw the chair in the past week.

Okay, let's be frank. This doohickey is expensive, but so is repairing the damage from the destructive behavior of some cats. I love my cats, but they don't all love one another. Their hatred for one another eventually devolved into a contest to see who could take over the territory that is my child's closet by continually peeing in the corner. I cleaned it to repeatedly, using appropriate products to neutralize the odor, only to have them repeat the process the next day. My kiddo could no longer play in his room, and the smell was so strong that it hit you the second you walked in our front door. Finally, I closed the kiddo's door and ordered the Ssscat, recalling many hilarious videos of its effectiveness on YouTube. I waited until it arrived and I had a few hours and I pulled up the carpet, cleaned the floor with Nature's Miracle, dried it out, replaced the befouled sections of carpet, and then popped batteries into the Ssscat and set it up so any curious feline going towards the closet would get a blast too the face. The cats contentedly played in his room and watched my progress all day. I was the only one who set off the Ssscat. Then, it was bedtime. Kiddo got all snuggled into bed and was just drifting off when my husband heard a loud crash and ran into his bedroom to find that, lo and behold, a cat had wandered into the closet to leave a message, only to get a very serious message from me! One of the other cats then tried it a few minutes later, only to come flying out of the bedroom like a bat out of... Well, you know where. Since then, none of the cats have gone anywhere near the closet and my house now has the normal level of cat aroma you would expect for a household with too many damned cats, but well-maintained litter boxes. I couldn't be happier. Overall review: this thing is absolutely worth the price. I only wish I had thought too set up a motion activated camera to capture the cats' responses to watch later, because, honestly, after all the damage they caused, I can't pretend that seeing them terrified by some pressurized air wouldn't be totally satisfying.

Love this, keeps my 8 cats off the Christmas tree, and helps with training them to stay off counter. Bad thing is though you’ll go thru refill cans quite a bit. Not one ornament has been knocked off yet, and my tree went up day after Thanksgiving.

I've known for weeks that one of my heathen feline children has been jumping on top of my microwave and traipsing across my countertop to the kitchen sink. So, I set on of these little buggers up. Today, I've heard pssst. PLOP. A minute later pssst. PLOP. I love this thing! It did take me a whole day to figure out how not to spray MYSELF every time I walked to the counter. I'm a slow learner sometimes. 😉

Read this review before you buy! This will be perfect for some people, and it won't work for others. It really depends on what you need it for. What it won't work for: keeping animals out of open areas. They can sprint past it and it won't register until they're gone. This spray senses heat more than motion, so the heat of the animal needs to register before it'll spray. What it'll work for: keeping animals away from objects or locations that you don't want them near. It'll keep them away from an area you don't want them to scratch or sit on. Here's what we needed it for: We close our bedroom door at night. We always make sure the cats have food and water before bed, so their new little "game" has nothing to do with that. Their new "game" was to jiggle our door handle in the middle of the night until one of us woke up and told them to knock it off. Then they would wait and do it again in an hour. Cats, am I right?! It was all fun and games to them and they were just bored so they wanted to annoy mom and dad (because of course they don't have enough toys to play with...) And boy, did it work. First, we would drape something over the door handle so they couldn't jiggle it. They'd figure out how to knock it off, even if we tied a hair binder over the knob on top of the sweatshirt or whatever we used. Then it was JIGGLE JANGLE time again. I came across this and read reviews and decided that it should work for what we need. We close the door at night, and place this beside our door frame so that it sprays when they're approaching and getting ready to jiggle the door. It works for us, and it may work for you if you're needing it for a similar situation. Note: takes 4 AA batteries that are not included. I can't testify for how long the spray will last since we've only had it about a week and a half. I am hoping this will condition our cats in the long run so that we don't need to buy refills and they'll just stay away from the can. Time will tell. Even if we do need to buy refills eventually, the added sleep at night will be worth it!
