This is genious and I fell in love with it when I first saw it. Ever since my son was born (he's almost 3 years old) I have been looking for a perfect night light. I originally wanted a nightlight that had a wire instead of being directly on the outlet. My son is more likely to pull those ones out of the outlet. I've been searching and I've never quite found the right one. I've been through battery powered ones, expensive ones and ones that changed colors they just didn't work. (Too bright, too dark, too attractive etc.) I hope I don't sound insane it just blew my mind I couldn't find something that worked for us. This is perfect. It's easy to install and I couldn't believe that you don't need to mess with wiring or change batteries. I also can't believe I didn't find this searching for night lights! I found this searching for safety covers on outlets. My son doesn't mess with it cause there's nothing to mess with. I do think it's a bit on the expensive side and I can't believe you don't save any money when buying in multiples. I want one of these in each room of the house but because of the cost that just isn't gonna happen. The "as seen on TV" one is super cheap but sketchy. I tried putting this in all different rooms to see what room I'd buy another one for and it was interesting. In some rooms, the light stayed constantly on even during the day with the shades open. And this wasn't affected by whether the sun was directly on the window. It was just strange. There's a fine line between it being bright enough and too dark. Some rooms were very well lit but the light just stayed on. But in our bathroom which has no windows, the light turns off when the overhead light is on. It turns out that in my son's room the light is constantly on even with all the lights on. And I didn't notice a dimming effect on the light. It was either really bright or off. Anyways this has been a lifesaver. My son used to wake up panicked in his room and I think it was because of the dark. Now he doesn't wake up crying and he's actually enjoying sleeping in his room. We never thought that would happen. If the price ever goes down I will be buying more, it's just an amazing idea. I think a fair price would be 10$. Also, this really needs to be in the "nightlight" section of Amazon way more than "baby proofing". Hope my review was helpful to you!

Installation was a snap (no pun intended for a Snap Power product). I had to jiggle the new cover slightly to get it to snap into place, but it went in nicely and felt firm even without the holding screw. Enough light at night to know where the furniture is and almost lights everything in the room. I bought 5 to begin with, and am now ordering 3 more. I have them in each hallway, on each side of the master bed and in the living room for when we turn off the last light in that room for the night. No more playing "light train" as I called it, having my wife turn on lights as she found them and me turning them back off as I followed on our way to bed each night. You wouldn't even know there is anything there - it looks just like the normal outlet cover. The 3 that I ordered just now are for the garage, guest bedroom and guest bathroom. ... Plus, I like to support independent ideas that people come up with. Great product, fills a need. Good job, whoever came up with this.

I have installed four of these innovative night lights in my house so far. I am very happy with how they work and how easy they are to install. One SnapPower Guidelight is in the front hallway on a regular decora wall plug. It was very easy to install. Three more SnapPower Guidelight devices are installed on regular decra wall plugs that are on GFCI "protected" circuits in a bathroom over a sink and in the kitchen over the countertops. GFCI stands for ground-fault circuit interrupter. Now this is important: If those outlets had been actual GFCI outlets, then the SnapPower device would not have lit up their three LED lights. That is because GFCI plugs are built differently than regular outlets. GFCI plugs do not have electrically charged screws located on their sides in the same place that regular outlets have theirs located. So the SnapPower device will not fit right on a GFCI outlet to receive electricity to power the LED lights. Take that into account when you are deciding where you want to put them and how many to buy, and then you should be fine. I did have a problem installing the device on one outlet. After repeatedly inserting and removing the device, I finally took an actual look at the outlet installed inside the wall box. I found the problem. This outlet had black electrical tape wrapped around the terminals on its sides. That prevented the SnapPower Guidelight from making proper contact with the outlets' electric power terminals. I cut back the tape from the terminals on both sides, and then it worked just like the other ones I installed. As for why there was the electrical tape on some outlets and not on other outlets, the answer is that some electricians are more cautious. They do this to prevent potential problems later on. They use the belt AND suspenders technique to prevent electrical shorts from happening inside the wall box. You do need to know this next fact when you decide where to install these lights. The LED lights will be shining down if the outlet was installed with its ground hole on the bottom side of each socket. The LED lights will be shining up if the outlet was installed upside down, with its ground hole on the top side of each socket. This is important to know because there may be places you want it shining downward where you do not want it to shine upward, and vice versa. My only complaint about this device is that the photo sensor is not sensitive enough to the ambient light in the room. It often does not cut off the LED light in the daytime. It lights up when there is adequate natural light to see with, but the LED lights do turn off when there is slightly brighter daylight. This condition means the device uses a couple extra pennies a year of electricity because it is lit in the daytime when it is not needed. However, they claim that it now uses about ten cents a year in electricity, so fixing that problem is not very significant. They should fix the sensor eventually, but it is so good now that they may not get around to doing that anytime soon.

These are SO rad!!! I started with 4 and came back for 6 more. So elegant and just enough lighting. GENIUS idea!!

The REAL version of this works, and works great. It is put together really well, and has a great finish that matches the white outlets. I would imagine the problems people are having is due to lots of fake/repros of the original. **BEWARE of FAKE versions of this cover plate. If your outlet does not come in a SnapPower plastic clamshell with SnapPower logo and UL listings on back of plate, you have a FAKE. The fake comes in a plastic bag with a tiny wood screw and a single printed piece of paper with no directions, just descriptions of the plate itself. Also, the FAKE has the light sensor on the right, SnapPower is on the left. The FAKES do not sit flush with the wall, have flimsy wings with no copper conductors and are noticeably off white. See pics below. The FAKE ones came from storefront: CompNet

Not much to add here, I purchased two for a dark hallway outside the bedroom where I occasionally tripped over a lazy, lounging cat. Installation was as simple as replacing the plate covers. I will update this review only if anything fails in the upcoming months, otherwise, consider them well made and durable.

Saw this product online somewhere and just had to get one to see if they were really as advertised. Let me just say that this is a genius alternative to regular outlet faceplates! They really are extremely easy to install. They look great and put out just the right amount of light. The only issue I have, is that mine is installed on the landing in the middle of our staircase. The overhead recessed lights are nearly directly above the socket, so the light sensor does not detect enough light to turn off the LEDs. In result, they stay on all the time. It's not a big deal, but could easily be fixed by making the sensor protrude out slightly, rather than flush with the faceplate. I wish SnapPower had a faceplate with the LEDs on the side of the faceplate. I've got outlets in my bathrooms that are horizontal. I would love to have these in my bathrooms. I'm already trying to find other faceplates that I can swap out for some of these! *** UPDATE: 2-11-2017 *** After actually needing to use the outlet (for a wireless network access point), I found that the light sensor can become completely covered up if you plug anything into the outlet that is larger than an actual power cord. Still love the product though. This could easily be fixed by moving the sensor to the top of the outlet. I don't recommend altering this product, but having experience with this type of thing, I'm going to take mine off and attempt to relocate the sensor to the top!

These are pretty great! Obviously, the key selling point is the ease of install, and it is indeed pretty clever. A monkey with a screwdriver could do it in about 30 seconds (excepting the outlet centering issue, which I'll get to). But the design goes beyond the clever means of connecting to power. Overall, it is very slick, clean, and looks exactly like any other faceplate on your wall (which it should!). The light sensor IS visible, but much less so than I expected. Once you're standing a few feet away, you don't even notice it. A friend of mine put a few of these in as well, and I didn't even notice until I was standing close enough to the panel to set it off. The light quality is also great! I generally like things dark at night, and have never particularly needed nightlights. I installed this in the kitchen, and was happy to find that it was just bright enough to make it easy to grab a glass of water, but also didn't make it appear as if the room was permanently lit up - the quality of the light keeps it from reflecting around and illuminating the whole room, and rather just adds enough visibility to the area to allow you to see things. Aesthetically the appearance of the three LEDs glowing downwards is very appealing, too. During installation, I did find that my outlets weren't installed in the center of the electrical box, so I had to unscrew them and move them slightly so that there would be enough room on both sides for the plugs. Not particularly difficult, but it did take an extra 5 minutes or so (and convince me that I really SHOULD turn off power to the box first :)). The only other downside that I would note is that the sensor DOES appear to be a little too sensitive. This won't be much of an issue in a brightly lit room with decent sunlight, or if you tend to keep your lights on during the day, but in my relatively dark, indirectly sun-lit kitchen (under the cabinets as well), I found that the lights would typically stay on at half brightness during the day. Check out the pictures to see what I mean. PROS: - Easy to install, slick design concept - Clean, simple appearance. Not distinguishable from a normal faceplate at first glance, and only noticeable when looked at closely - Light sensor is less visible than expected - Light quality is clean, modern, and aesthetically pleasing (it IS more of a cool, white light, versus a warm, nightlight glow - I like this, but to each their own) - Customer service is fantastic! (I have two of their newer product - the SnapPower USB Charger - Outlet Coverplate with Built in USB Charger, Duplex, White, and when one broke they were VERY helpful in taking care of it - I had a replacement in my mailbox in 3 days!) CONS: - Depending upon your outlet, you might have to move the outlets a little within the box so that the prongs can fit - Sensor is potentially a little too sensitive - can stay on during the day in a dimly lit room - Light sensor could still be less noticeable (perhaps on the top or side of the faceplate), but it's not something you'll regularly notice - Light quality is cooler and towards the white-blue side of the spectrum (as with all LEDs) - could be warmer for some people's preference, but I personally like it (looks more modern) CONCLUSION: Want a slick, elegant, easy to install set of nightlights for your kitchen, hallway, bedroom etc, but don't want to take up an outlet with a bulky nightlight? As long as you don't mind the slightly cooler color temperature of the light, and are either planning to install them in a well lit space, or keep your lights on during the day, get yourself a set of these! You won't be disappointed. Also, check out their awesome USB Charger Coverplate which is pretty cool as well. DISCLAIMER: Their customer service accidentally sent me this as a replacement, and allowed me to keep it, but asked if I would write an Amazon review. I hope you'll agree I've done my best to be impartial and unbiased!

This is a very good product. I must agree about being overpriced, but what new thing on the market is not overpriced. Acceptance and volume will bring the price down. Sometimes recepticles are put into the box without all of the screws being tightened down. This product wants those screws (the ones not used for securing the wires) to be tightened down. I've had no problems with it turning on, and staying lit. I've also had no problems with textured walls. LED lamps will fail at some point, but they last so long that you are unlikely to see their failure. Also do not use this product on a recepticle that is half switched.
