Really impressed, especially considering the price. My current setup consists of RX-V681 Yamaha receiver + JBL floor standing speakers + center speaker. I recently bought a smaller OLED TV for my den and needed a simple, versatile setup. I play guitar and consider myself a discerning, demanding customer. I am certainly an audiophile. Pros: 1) Very rich sound in 3D Surround mode, both for music and movies. Sounds superior to both LG and Vizio in my opinion. I did install the DTS Virtual:X firmware update from Yamaha official website. The firmware update was supposed to come out in August 2017, however, Yamaha managed to push it out much earlier on July 19th. 2) Easy, straightforward setup. Simple update procedure via USB stick. 3) Powerful wireless subwoofer rocks 4) Support for the latest and greatest 4K technologies - HDMI | HDCP 2.2 5) Slim, space-saving design. Cons: 1) Could've been sexier-looking. Wish speaker cover was made out of metal, not cloth. 2) Yamaha's remote control app (iOS) works well, however, it is somewhat ugly. 3) No support for Wi-Fi playback such as Google Chromecast, Spotify Connect, etc. Google Chromecast Audio dongle fixes all that for $35 or so. Please note that I wasn't not able to compare DTS Virtual:X with Dolby Atmos. Conclusions: Incredible bang for the buck - rich, immersive sound for less than $300 in a compact, lightweight, easy-to-setup package. Highly recommended!! UPDATE: I see that many people complain in their reviews that "the sound doesn't seem to come from above in Surround Mode as expected given that the sound bar supports DTS Virtual:X (aka "DTS:X") technology. We are not impressed - Doby Atmos is better." Please keep in mind that in order to experience DTS:X, you need both the hardware and the content to support the format. In other words, not only you need to have your Yamaha YAS-207 with the latest firmware update installed, the audio source (e.g. UHD disk) has to have a DTS:X sound track encoded on it as well. You won't hear 11.1 sound while watching Pacific Rim in 4K - the UHD lacks DTS Virtual:X soundtrack - it only has DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1. The sound will be surround but not DTS:X surround. You will, however be able to enjoy the DTS:X sound while watching Battleship in 4K - assuming your 4K player is set up correctly sending out non-PCM but Dolby/DTS sound (DD/DTS button is lit green while it plays the movie, and the Surround button is lit blue). Here is the confirmed list of DTS:X encoded movie titles as of July 19th, 2017: American Ultra Battleship (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray) The Big Short The Bourne Identity (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray) The Bourne Legacy (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray) The Bourne Supremacy (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray) The Bourne Ultimatum (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray) Crimson Peak Daddy's Home Despicable Me (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray) Despicable Me 2 (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray) Divergent Dracula Untold (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray) E.T. There are NO speakers behind the listener, yet sound seems to come from everywhere! It doesn't make sense! I bought the Yamaha YAS-201 back in 2013 and was amazed. Over time it started to lose connection with the subwoofer and decided to upgrade to the YAS-207BL. Out of the box, it was very comparable to the YAS-201. It had a great sound and was well powered. Then the upgrade to DTS Virtual:X...The only way to describe it is magical. What a difference a little bit of software makes. The sound bar seemed to get a boost in power and the range became more dynamic. What's amazing about this sound bar is not only does it produce a fantastic sound, but it actually sounds natural. Granted, this will never compare to a professionally installed 7.1 system and it shouldn't. However, I've thrown ever level of audio at it (DD 5.1, 7.1, DTS, DTS TrueHD) and I've been impressed every time. One thing I did different this time is to mount it above the TV. With the WALI SBR201 Universal Sound Bar Bracket I was able to raise the Yamaha's sound stage to above the TV and it made a huge improvement with the surround effect.

This thing packs a very big punch! So, I inserted the Bluray disc of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which I haven't seen yet, and I just let the title menu orchestra music loop over and over. While the music played, our wooden floor and the walls started vibrating (from the sub-woofer) and the bar sounded really strong and loud! Then I discovered the "surround sound" button on the remote, and the sound became ten times better. I tried both Dolby and DTS output settings from the TV and both sound options sounded really good. I also tested the Bluetooth feature of this bar and I streamed music from my phone to the bar. The pairing of the Bluetooth was easy as there is a button on the remote to enable it. On the phone, the Bluetooth device showed up as "YAS-207 Yamaha." The Bluetooth streaming was amazing! I also really like the LED indicators on the front of the bar which show the current settings that the bar is configured to i.e. volume levels and surround sound led indicator. The LEDs can also be adjusted to bright, medium bright, or set to no light at all. This is my first sound bar purchase; I've always used the old school two front speaker, rear, and sub-woofer, and I feel that this bar can replace the front two speakers and my Energy sub-woofer. For references, I used the optical input of the soundbar to try out the sound quality (connecting from the optical out of the TV); there's an HDMI input on the bar and so I will try it out soon. Kudos to Yamaha!!

I bought Bose sound touch sound bar and woofer set from Costco for $1000 and was very unimpressed by it. It did not sound like a thousand bucks sound system. I am no sound engineer but definitely an audiophile. I researched a lot of sound bars and thought of giving this guy a try. I must say that I am very happy with it. It's very reasonably priced and the setup is super easy. I am using HDMI ARC and it works like a charm. Figuring out how to turn that feature ON( controlling sound bar volume with TV remote) required a little bit of research and reading through the manual. Otherwise it was an easy setup. The voice is clear. The bass is rich. I tested it with Mad Max fury road to test Dolby DTS (played the ultra hd disk on my Xbox one s) and was very impressed with directional sound. I could feel the sound moving through the space during those fantastic chases in the movies. Highly recommend.

In spite of what you read, this sound bar is simple to install and operate. If you hate multiple remotes and have an ARC compliant TV, get the recommended HDMI cable when you order. We have the newest Amazon compliant FireTV (2018)...50". It was incredibly easy to hook this up, because the diagram is simple (2 connection cables and 2 power cords), the jacks are labeled properly. You can use 2 HDMI cables (make sure they are DTS, UHD capable), 1 HDMI + the included Digital Optical Cable, or just the DOC it comes with if you don't mind not being able to run it with your TV remote. When you fire it up, reboot your smart TV! This will sync everything up properly. At first, I couldn't control volume from the FireTV remote. So I rebooted TV and BOOM! Works flawlessly. Also, make sure you set your TV to Dolby audio processing (varies by model) in the TV's Settings Menu. Then you're ready to ROCK! The sub and the sound bar each have an AC cord. So consider that as you shop and decide where to put stuff. We did not do the wall mount. So I can't speak to that, but it looks simple. Yamaha includes a cardboard printed wall mount template in the package. Took me a total of 20 minutes from unboxing to watching a movie. Sound quality (for a sound bar) is phenomenal. Compared to top line 5.1 or 7.1 home theater surround, it is a very impressive substitute at 10% of the cost and 90% less hassle. The fact that you can play music through the system from any Bluetooth device was a pleasant surprise. There is a downloadable smart phone/tablet app that is compatible with this system, too...for those of you who like running everything in your house from your smart phone. Due to the Bluetooth and the Wifi in a smart TV connection, you should be able to loop a connected smart TV into your "smart home" controls, too...so you could turn off/on remotely when gone on vacation, etc. You have 2 ways of linking if you use the HDMI (ARC) connection. Finally, the system is good looking, well packaged, and was delivered in 2 days from the day of order via Amazon Prime. We are electronic minimalists and very tech savvy for being over 50, and we are VERY impressed and happy with our purchase.

The old Samsung wasn't enough to fill a lager room with sound and the dialog would be horrific at higher volume. Began searching for a quality sound bar at the entry level price. Several reviews pointed to the YAS 207. Now this isn't a low profile sound bar, it's wide, perfect for a larger screen and a little tall, shorter than Sonos. The subwoofer and soundbar pair easily and the bass has plenty of kick. The dialog is where this bar shines, no matter the scene or volume, the dialog is crisp, clean and solid. The DTS 3-D sound is gimmicky, not sure if I can hear a difference. If you want 3-D sound, I don't believe you'll ever achieve that from a bar alone. For the below $300 price this bar is well worth it, I wouldn't use it for a TV below 60" given it's size. I've not had any issues with the bluetooth connection on the sub, the bar and sub are about 20 feet apart, completely to the side of the bar. Pros: Price, construction, clarity, decent bass, mobile app, has super thin fiber cable included. Cons: Large, 3-D sound is a gimmick, for medium sized rooms.

Hello, I am not one to leave a lot of reviews unless I'm feeling very passionate about sharing an incredible experience with a product I feel is really worth it. I must tell you, the YAS-207 is amazing. I am not an audiophile. I'm just a regular guy, new to sound bars, who was looking for a decent bar to improve my TV/movie and bluetooth music experience. I purchased the YAS-207 as my first ever sound bar and it had big shoes to fill as I was simplifying and this bar was replacing a 5.1 Denon/HK surround sound system. Obviously, I knew the sound would not on the same level as my 5.1 system. The first time I heard the YAS-207 and not having any previous experience with sound bars, I thought it sounded pretty good, but I still questioned if I should have bought a more expensive bar. However, I upgraded the firmware to allow the DTS surround sound function and WOW!!!!!! I sat on the couch and played some music and I found myself quickly becoming lost in the sound...what a pleasurable experience it was. I really enjoyed the sound of the YAS-207, but not having any previous experience with sound bars I still felt like I needed to look at more expensive ones to really get a feel for any differences. The next day I was talked into purchasing a Klipsch sound bar from a big box store for $399. I thought, well the Klipsch has to be better based on price alone and the salesman was ecstatic about Klipsch. I took it home and hooked the Klipsch up right away and what an unbelievable disappointment. This morning, I hooked the YAS-207 back up and was instantly blown away after having listened to the Klipsch over the previous 24 hours. Listening to this system after installing the firmware upgrade reminded me of the Bose store experience where you go in their demo movie room and you're just blown away by sound only to discover the sound was coming from these tiny hidden speakers the whole time. Obviously, this system is not on par with a Bose surround sound system, but that feeling of immersive and deep breath of music surrounding you is legit with the YAS-207. I will be happily keeping the YAS-207 and highly recommending it to everyone I know, especially the salesman at the big box store when I return the Klipsch system today. So that is my experience and like I said I'm not an audiophile, but there were several things I really like about the YAS-207. The Yamaha app is a nice feature to control the unit. The speaker and subwoofer are well built and feel sturdy. The design of the bar is very sleek and attractive. The subwoofer is powerful and hearty sounding. The remote control that comes with the unit is okay, but most sound bar remotes I've seen seem to be cheap. I wish the remote had back/forward/play/pause buttons which would allow to play/pause or go to the previous or next track if playing music. The instructions were clear and setting up the system was a breeze. I have no complaints and I am more than happy with this purchase and price point. This system is half of what my budget was for a sound bar and I couldn't be happier with it. I would highly recommend the YAS-207 for anyone looking for a sound bar in the $200-$400 range. Just a reminder though....make sure you do the firmware update (done via USB stick) to really allow the YAS-207 to shine. Thanks for reading and hopefully this encourages somebody to purchase this system so they may have the same experience I have had. I am truly impressed with Yamaha...they hit a home run in my books with this one.

Update as of 19-Jul-2017: The firmware update is available on Yamaha support site now. I've just updated mine and I am truly impressed. DTS Virtual:X enhances the existing 3D sound of the bar by adding special effect and creating an illusion of the sound coming from all side including from above (yes, it's actually true)! Goodness, the sound is so clear and precise that I even have goosebumps - my mind probably is constantly tricked believing that the sound is real, when it's actually not. The indication of the activated DTS Virtual:X effect is the blue light glowing from "surround" indicator on the panel. Original review as of 1-Jul-2017: ----------------------- Key features of YAS-207: 1) So far its surround sound can be heard from horizontal directions as DTS Virtual:X is not yet available. After firmware update (which according to Yamaha will be available in August this year) you will be able to listen to DTS Virtual:X enveloping surround sound coming from above at varying heights. 2) It comes with wireless subwoofer for dynamic sound. 3) It transmits 4K HDR video. There is an ARC-HDMI output jack. 4) It's Bluetooth got version 4.1, class 2 5) There is dedicated Yamaha app to control soundbar's settings from your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone. You'd need to download it free from Apple or Android Play store. 6) Its bass extension boosts low bass levels for a remarkable powerful sound. 7) Its Clear Voice option, if enabled, will make dialogues and narrations sound clearer. 8) YAS-207 supports these audio signals: - PCM (up to 5.1ch) - Dolby Digital (up to 5.1ch) - DTS Digital Surround (up to 5.1ch) The only drawback that I see - lack of Wi-Fi connectivity. The firmware update (promised by Yamaha in August) you'd have to make through a USB drive by downloading the update file from Yamaha's support website first, then plugging that USB drive to the USB jack on the back side of the soundbar, following instructions provided to complete the firmware upgrade to DTS Virtual:X.

Very impressed! Firmware update was easy. Setup was quick and painless. I am shocked at the projection of sound. Some had noted in the reviews that there was a noise in the system after the firmware update. I did not notice anything at all. I ordered as an Amazon wholesale item. It was noted that the box was only damaged. I was hesitant, but very surprised to see only a few, very slight abnormalities in the box. We have been using the system for only a few days. Watched a movie, played on the ps4, and regular TV. Will update the post if anything changes! Otherwise, very pleased with the purchase. I must note, there was a slight lag between the audio and the ps4 video. After some research, I found out that the ps4 audio settings ask if the system is hooked up via optical or hdmi cable. It was set to hdmi. I switched it to optical, as my TV doesn't have an ARC port. Audio and video instantly synch perfectly! Wish I would have known that for our old surround sound unit. Hope it helps someone else.

My set up: 70" LG - Model 70UJ6570 Apple TV - 2nd Gen 64GB – Use DirecTV Now for TV (DTVN) Xbox One Elite 150mbps internet/wifi Orbi Mesh Last but certainly not least the Yamaha YAS-207 OK, so I was coming from 5.1 Surround Sound system with receiver . . . the whole thing. Trying to go a little more minimalistic in the room which is about 20’x24’. The TV speakers were surprisingly good, but of course lacked any real base, surround, etc. I first purchase the LG SJ7 Flex. I thought sticking with the brand was going to get me somewhere. Once that was installed I immediately recognized an overwhelming deep, hollow base that overwhelmed everything even when the woofer was off. Additionally, and most importantly, I found the DTVN stream sound to be very, very poor. It’s hard to get a clear answer from DTVN about what to expect from the sound feed (Stereo. 5.1, HD, etc.), but I can tell you that when I had the 5.1 system hooked up it still sounded great, and full, and rich. Remove that and add the LG SJ7 . . . no good at all. I come to learn that the 5.1 receiver does a bass-crossover when the feed isn’t 5.1 and essentially mimics a 5.1 sound and processes the bass sound. So then begins my search for any bar that does anything with bass-crossover or up-converting a stereo signal. Many hours later I learn about DTS Virtual:x and come across the Yamaha YAS-207. It was about $100 more than the SJ7 and then I wanted to spend, but WOW am I glad I did. Same set up, plug in the YAS-207 and BOOM! It’s, of course not going to beat a true 5.1 system, but in this room, with this setup, wanting to go a little more minimalistic . . . just wow! Lots of great function/tuning opportunity. Mine came with the new firmware already installed, but the update is really easy and intuitive, and the Yamaha site is very clear and easy to use. I don’t ever write stuff, but I had to on this sound bar, mostly because it’s that’s good, but also because I spent a lot of time looking for something and really couldn’t find good options for my set up. I know I’m not the only one who’s cut the cord and is streaming from Apple TV or Xbox or PS4, Roku, Chrome, and on and on, so if you’re in the market, I highly recommend you consider this bar and woofer.
