- Winners of Pinewood Derby competitions use Tungsten weights. It's 1.7x heavier than lead which allows you to pack more weight in the back of your car. This causes a greater build up of potential energy and have faster speeds on the track and finish line.
- EXTRA 3.25 oz instead of 3.0 oz. Incremental sizes offer a more precise weight distribution. (5 half ounce, 2 quarter ounce, and 2 eighth ounce weights) Give your derby car more weight in the back for more speed. It may be the difference of 1st place and 2nd.
- The cylinders are 3/8" diameter which is a standard drill bit size. Simply drill a hole, insert weights and glue in place.
- NO SHARP EDGES! NO LEAD! These weights are beveled, non-toxic and child safe for handling.
- Surprisingly Heavy! Tungsten weights have huge advantages in pinecar racing.

we won!
great little weights for our pinewood derby car. we won first place in our scout troop! i used a drill with a bit just wider than the weight to make holes in the car and then glued the weights into the holes. we positioned them high and to the rear or the car.

Pinewood Derby car weights
These weights were perfect to add weight to make the 5 ounces required for a pinewood derby car. I also recommend buying these with the Red Dirt Derby T-Tool Pinewood Derby Weight Placement Drilling Tool to get perfect hole placement.

came in a nice cardboard cylinder
We didn't get to use it yet, but the container is pretty heavy. Should be fun to place these into the car this year. Last year, we used the lead from the BSA and it sure took up a lot of space under the car.

Great...for one car
I didn't realize this and probably should have when I bought it but there's only enough weight for 1 car. I ended up having to buy another (2 kids in the pinewood derby this year). However, they worked great and the weights were very exact -- we were able to get the cars to within .04 oz of 5 oz.

Great product
Given that this was our second time entering a pinewood derby, we wanted to take it to the next level. The packaging is great with the tube as shown; and also the weights were in a plastic baggy. As soon as my son saw it, he popped open the tube and had it not been in a baggy, we would of likely lost a valuable piece or two. I also weighed the weights, and it weighed exactly what was stated. I like that it came in different sizes.

These are expensive, but work great!
So, if you get carried away and spend way to much on pinewood derby, then these weights are for you. Lots of cheaper options, but these work great and allow you extreme precision in centering your weight exactly where you want it.

Excellent Quality! Highly Recommend!
We used two sets of these weights building two cars this season. These are excellent! They worked perfectly to mass the right amount of weight to get to the 5 oz. allowed. They are easy to use by drilling hole in the bottom, sides, back, or top. We used wood glue to hold them in, and it worked great. We used a kitchen scale to verify. The sizes were perfect, we didn't have any trouble getting to 5 oz. exactly. The tungsten pieces were cool. They come pre-portioned like the description shows, we found the claimed weight to be accurate on a kitchen food scale. They are evenly shaped, and smooth; no irregularities in shape and size between two packages. We liked using the tungsten over lead for the obvious safety factors that come with small objects around young children and animals. We liked the cylinder shape for stylizing our cars, better than squares stacked on top. We also like the shape for the ease of drilling holes that will fit the weights, instead of trying to carve square shapes out of wood. Ultimately, we were very happy with these and would confidently recommend these for anyone looking for quality, accurate and easy weights for their pinewood derby creations.

Winning car thanks to tungsten weights!
Tungsten weights are one of the most important parts of a winning car. My son came in second last year and just won first in his pack's race of 30 cars! He was so excited!!! The nice part of this set is that you get the extra .25 ounces to really nail the weight.

Pinewood derby weights brings weight to the races.
I added weights to both of my sons' cars for the pinewood derby. My youngest won first and his car was the closest to 5 grams. My oldest won third but his car was not as close to the 5 gram limit. Weight makes all the difference.

Precise weighting
I ordered two sets of these for a couple of Pinewood Derby cars we were making. I weighed each of the tungsten rods individually and their weight of each was accurate. Installation was pretty simple, just drill a 3/8" hold and push them in. It's a tight fit, tight enough that you likely wouldn't need to seal them in or add any extra adhesive. I covered ours with wood putty and painted over them. Is tungsten worth the extra cost over lead or zinc weights? Only you can answer that, but they're certainly compact for how much weight they pack. On our car this allowed us to optimize the center of gravity while sticking to the design my son wanted.
