First, to be honest, when my daughter opened the unit as her gift for her 10th birthday it did not work. We sent it right back and in less than a week she had her new cotton candy maker and it has worked great and she really loves it. We have just used the floss sugar that I bought at a local restaurant supply store so far. We found that to get the most fluffy cotton candy is to swirl your cone inside the shell as you start seeing the floss come out of the top spinning disk. Once it is attached to your cone then turn it horizontal just above the clear shell and slowly roll up the floss that way. In spite of the fact that the first unit did not work for us. I still highly recommend this as a great gift

I bought this product for my husband as a fun birthday present. He loves it and so do I. We've only used it twice these last few weeks, but we have alot of fun doing that together, especially for date night. I bought the 3-flavor sugars to go with, Don't Do It. I was most excited for the apple flavor...but it's disgusting. I kept thinking the machine must be dirty and mixing flavors, but no- we tried it first this time and it tasted the same, and the taste wouldn't go away. It's also fun to use the hard candies or plain sugar. We have been experimenting, and we enjoy it alot. We've found you can dumb down the flavors by using 1 piece of candy with some sugar on the opposite side of the heat circle. My husband actually likes plain sugar more than anything because it's the least intense, so had I known that I would have saved $15 on the sugars. He also tried a circular fireball, he just broke it into pieces first, and we loved that too. It was strong cinnamon, but it was great. I can't wait to use the machine with guests, kids, and pot lucks with our community. It's just plain fun that not everybody gets to do everyday! Have fun with it...and don't forget to wipe everything down around the machine...it will be sticky (even cupboards)

This thing is awesome, just let it warm up like the directions say and shut it off while pouring sugar in it and it works great! The little Brach's brand hard candies work great, one of the grocery stores here sells them by the pound ($2 i think) and two pieces of candy is all you need to make a good sized piece of cotton candy. Some tips to save you from cleaning: wintergreen lifesavers, baskin robins candy, wertheres Carmels and fun dip do not work so well. We tried jolly ranchers and they worked out alright, the pinwheel mints as shown in the picture work great, as well as the butterscotch, cinnamon and apple brachs candies. I would recommend buying some of the cotton candy flossine that you mix with sugar yourself, i bought an assortment pack of 12 different flavors that each make 5pounds of sugar (a LOT of cotton candy) for $15 at an online auction.

Love this cotton candy maker!! works great, follow instructions, make sure you let it heat up good, once it gets hotter and hotter it flows more freely. Also, you put the scoop in, collect candy til it is done, then turn off machine (so next scoop of sugar doesn't fly all over kitchen) turn back on and repeat til you get the amount you want on your cones. I see people mentioning sometimes they don't get much, well that is because you have to repeat process, not just do one scoop. I highly recommend getting the paper cones to go with, as they are easier to use than the plastic ones and the cotton candy sticks to them better. We truly love this product and it works great, not hard to clean, just let it cool down, take the 3 pieces off and soak in warm water for a few and bam all clean :) sugars melt away easily. We also switch flavors with ease while making and then wash when all done.

Nostalgia Electrics PCM-805RETRORED Retro Series Hard & Sugar-Free Candy Cotton Candy Maker I chose to buy the red rather than the pink. They otherwise seem to be the same machine. It does take abt. 10min. to Pre-heat before you make the first cone. I turn it on and set a timer. I liked that it used Hard Candy, which is always available, but we didn't care for it. Life Savers were too sweet and the peppermint didn't appeal to anyone here. Haven't tried any of the other recommendations yet. NOT that it effects the machine review. The 3 pack flossing sugarNostalgia Electrics FCK-800 Flossing Sugar Cotton Candy Kit also worked well. The Blue and Pink looked and tasted like the real thing. The machine is not big or heavy and Clean-up is very easy, so it's not a chore to pull it out if it's kept somewhat handy. Sugar melts, just rinse with warm/hot water (especially if it gets on the plastic table cloth and dries). True, like anything, you need to get the knack to making it. HOT is the key to fluffy batches. Like pancakes...the first one doesn't come out quite as well. It shipped overnight and didn't even come in a shipping box. Everything was OK, and just in time for a B'day party with the family. We used it again today, when the flossing suger arrived and we're getting the hang of it! Tomorrow I'll try it with a small party of 12yr olds. Price, convenient to use and it works,'novelty' makes petite cones just like the picture, gets it 5 stars.

I bought this for my daughter for her birthday. She has been ising it daily for a week now. She has used floss sugar, a variety of hard candies, including jolly ranchers, lemonheads, life savers and peppermints. All came out perfectly. It was easy to set up and use and cleanup is was a snap. The only problem she had was when she first ised it, she didn't wait long enough for it to heat up.

I was a little hesitant to buy this after reading the semi bad reviews, but I'm glad I decided to buy anyway! We used it at my daughter's party. (8 kids) it did take some time to get a good amount, but not too terribly bad. Seen some reviewers disappointed with the amount of cotton produced, and comparing it to the cotton candy bought at a fair. Which is comparing a $30 kitchen appliance to a $2-300 industrial machine! For the price and size, it did great! We tried both floss sugar and hard candy, (life savers and jolly ranchers) and the hard candy dinfintly worked better than the floss sugar. 3 Life Savers smashed up worked the best. Clean up was a breeze!

Love this machine! Don’t buy the junky cotton candy maker they sell at TRU or Crapmart! I especially love that this machine plugs into the wall outlet (no batteries), and even better than the candy floss sugar, this machine takes hard candies. IMO the hard candies make the best cotton candy, superior flavor, and faster to make tasty candy floss. We bought the candy floss sugar and the flavor pales in comparison to the hard candies we tried including...Lifesavers, and assorted candy canes. My favorite is the chocolate mind! My only problem so far how difficult the head element is to clean, even soaking in boiling water and scrubbing with a soft cloth will not get that melted sugar COMPLETELY off, but hey, can’t have everything!

My son really wanted this for his birthday so I gave in and let him get it with his birthday money. He loves it and all the neighborhood kids do too! It only uses two candies or 1 tsp of sugar so I don't feel guilty letting them make their own treats. I suggest buying the paper cones and cotton candy sugar to go along with it. The only candy he tried it with so far was sour warheads and they worked great. It looks nice and sturdy and was easy to clean.

I purchased this for my 7 year old's surprise carnival birthday party and it was definitely the hit of the party! We mixed up apple flavored jolly ranchers and Werther's original to make caramel apples and all other types of creations! My daughter is not allowed sugar, and hasn't had cotton candy in probably 5 years, so she LOVED having this at the party, and was ecstatic to learn we bought it. The quantity of cotton candy produced is more than I expected from only 2 pieces of candy, and no one had a problem with waiting their turn as the machine worked quickly and everyone loved to watch. Easily one of my best Amazon purchases.
