This is absolutely worth 40-ish bucks! I've had a lot of BT speakers and feel I can weigh in accurately. You have to set your expectations appropriately and you will not be disappointed. For around $40 you get a compact, tough speaker that pumps out some high volume and doesn't lose clarity which is important because that's the first thing that happens to low-quality speakers: you crank em and they crackle. I've had speakers twice this size sound remarkably similar. I don't find the bass to be *mind blowing* like I've seen in some other reviews. But the reality is that with 14w and $40 it really shouldn't blast your hair back, ya know? I will say that the bass is well-balanced. It is present and rich sounding, but it isn't going to shake your pictures off the wall. For comparison, the Bose Soundlink II has SUPERIOR bass and sound quality. What would you expect from a name like Bose for $130? SUPERIOR performance, right? So there ya go. Don't over think it. If you're looking for Bose quality, you're not likely to find it under $80 for a BT speaker. If you're shopping on the more budget-conscious side of things, you won't be disappointed with this speaker. Also, the two speaker option is unique in my experience and an absolute BONUS for this product category. You can use two speakers as a left and right channel together, or use them as two separate full stereo speakers; a feature you'd have to pay much more for, as far as I've seen. I would also say that if you read this review and the price is sub-$40, then buy it right away. If it's above $40, then... ehhhh I don't know. $40 seems to be about right on the money. For the price, it is a 5-star product. I'm ordering a second one now.

The Blue Tooth Speaker Marathon

A tale of 5 Blue Tooth Speakers (get comfy) Following is a review of 5 BT Speakers I purchased over the past few months: Oontz Angle($24.95) , OOntz Angle Ultra($39.95), Anker Soundcore($24.95), VAVA voom($29.95), Tribit xSound($35.99). I used the reviews from Amazon as a basis for my purchases as I have no experience with BT speakers. This speaker was to be used more or less exclusively on an Amazon Echo Dot for relatively near-field music replay. Features such as waterproof, portability, stereo capability, super bass, and loud volumes were secondary to natural sound reproduction. In other words, they would not be used at loud volumes to fill a room with sound for a party. I know……what do I expect for under $40? Test: All testing was done with 2 tablets and an Amazon Echo Dot connected via Bluetooth. We did not use the AUX connection (tested later and all worked fine). Being a cheapskate, I initially purchased the Oontz Angle and Anker Soundcore thinking one would be for my wife, and I would “settle” for the other. Between the 2, she preferred the Anker to the Oontz. The Anker produced a better all-around range albeit somewhat muffled (to me) . The Oontz, while more detailed, had too much high-end bias for most music. After a day or two, my wife agreed with me about the Anker, and we decided to get 3 more speakers and pick 2 among the 5. The Second Test: Once we received the other 3 speakers, Oontz Angle Ultra, Tribit XCore, and the VAVA Voom, it became immediately apparent the Oontz Angle and Anker SoundCore were going back. There was no comparing the initial 2 with the 3 new kids on the block. All three were obviously better…albeit a bit more expensive. Ontz Angle Ultra: a bit bigger than the original, and we both agreed the sound was better. Much better in fact. The speaker sounded bigger and the lower end had filled out nicely. Music with piano especially gained the weigh so lacking in the original Oontz which could sound small and tinkley. A good mid-range and nice bass, but not Beats level (thankfully). We both agreed that this speaker sounded the best across the different music genres we tested. It also had the unique trait of masking it's exact location; sound came from a large area near the speaker versus from an exact point. Soundstage on a $40 dollar BT speaker? Tribit Xcore: Surprisingly loud and bassy, but without going over the top. The least “cool” of the designs, but hefty for its size and did nothing badly across different music types. I especially noticed how well /full it sounded at lower volume levels. It placed second in my rankings. VAVAVoom: I liked the look and feel of this speaker the best, and being the same design as the much more expensive JBL Flip and Charge speakers I expected a lot. I especially liked the idea of the 2 side passive woofers, but it actually produced the least effective bass of the 3, even though the side woofer cones were working their little hearts out. I generally I enjoyed the sound ….but it was inconsistent among different music genres. Placed 3rd for me My rankings: Oontz Ultra, Tribit, VAVA -- My Wifes rankings: Oontz Ultra, VAVA, Tribit All connected via Bluetooth without drama to an Echo Dot, Amazon Fire, and Dell tablets. Though different sounding, the sonic differences between the VAVAVoom and the Tribit were much less than the sonic difference between those 2 speakers and the Oontz Ultra. The Ultra won hands down, and we have been very happy with it for about 4 weeks now. The VAVAVoom was returned, but I *did* keep the Tribit.....you know.....for my troubles. :-)

Long Thorough Review for Regular People (and comparison to Oontz Plus) - with pictures and water test!

TEASER: there’s a water test and picture included to test the IPX6 rating 😊 WARNING: This review is lengthy and hopefully thorough for you to decide, but not overly technical. I initially wrote a lot about the first Oontz speaker I got, the Angle 3 Plus, and thank everyone for all the positive feedback and tons of upvotes. So I’ll continue that format, and compare these 2 speakers in hopes it helps you. Having really obviously loved that speaker, after having many pretty uninspiring Bluetooth speakers, I basically bought into the Oontz family of products. There are cheap and expensive BT speakers out there, some cheap ones are great for the money, and some expensive ones really fall short based on cost and are likely riding on the brand name. To me, Oontz is the perfect value for money ratio (I’m a nerd who does research, gives quantitative ratings to the attributes I like, and then create a value ratio 😊) I’m no audio-professional, in fact I work in the beauty / cosmetics business, in brand management (marketing), so I know “lipstick on a pig” and plain old marketing fluff when I see it (sometimes). This company definitely passes the no-marketing-hype test. It’s an American company (that matters to me, maybe not to others), and seem to be putting their dollars into good products instead of advertising. Like you, I love music, but 80% of the time I'm listening passively, not studying the entire soundstage. After comparing this speaker to the Oontz Plus, this one is better for both passive and active listening. It’s performing well across an array of music styles: I listen to classic country, synthpop, britpop, industrial, lots of classical, 80’s, indie, and because of the kids, way too much kid’s stuff (Moana & Frozen anyone?). UNBOXING - Basic cardboard, but well protected. No fancy wrappings and tchotchkes. And that’s what I want to see. It doesn’t feel like you’re opening a gift, which means you didn’t pay for all the unnecessary stuff. - The feel: just like the Angle Plus. Solid, rubberized sides. It feels just barely heavier than the previous Angle Plus. My Plus was taken camping, beach, picnics, and thrown by my kids during tantrums and play, and survived with barely a scratch, and I suspect this Ultra is the same solid quality. - Comes with your standard micro-USB cable and 3.5mm male to male cable. Works, but I use my personal aux cable as I think its better. - OH @#$&*!! This nearly looks/feels identical to the Angle Plus. Did I just get suckered into buying a higher priced twin!? I got worried. But then I put them side by side, hit 'play', and happiness ensued. PAIRING - Nothing to say. If you’ve paired anything in your life, that’s it. Super simple. I paired to an iphone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S6 with zero delay/issue, and no disconnections within regular stated ranges (100 feet). CONTROL / RANGE - MUCH improved controls over the Angle Plus! You can see from my pictures (Plus on left, Ultra on right) that the Plus had harder to see buttons, and an even harder (nearly impossibly frustrating) small and hard to see power and Bluetooth light. In my picture you can actually see the Plus’s lights b/c of some camera auto-adjustment, but in real life it sucked. The Ultra is clear and bright. This may be an issue for some if they keep it on their night-stand at night. Also, the Ultra now has dedicated volume and skip buttons, whereas the Plus didn’t. Also, while I’m not blind, I like that the Ultra has higher raised symbols so I can just feel for them, versus the relatively flat buttons of the Plus. This actually is very useful I find when lighting is low, so its easier to see the buttons. - The usb and 3.5mm jack are on the back, and are slightly recessed. Please note this if you are thinking of getting an "L" angle 3.5mm jack as I was, since it may not fully plug in. - The access ‘door’ to the jack and usb is even improved on the Ultra vs the Plus. On the Ultra it seems there’s a metal insert in the ‘flap’, making it nice and rigid and easier to open/close, whereas on the Plus it was just a piece of rubber. See the attention to detail these Oontz folks have?! - As for range, I live in a prewar building, very solid walls that are great except when you want wifi or bluetooth to travel. I was able to effectively control the speaker from a phone at least 30 feet away and with 3 corners in between (i.e. around the hallways and through bedrooms). Controls still worked but sound started skipping at about 40 feet. This is really impressive given my stupidly thick walls. Same performance as the Plus in my opinion. SOUND - WOW! - Ok I’ll say more than that. The ultra is 4W more than the Plus, thus 14 total. If you don’t really know what that translates to in performance, neither did I. Yes I did the math and figured well its X% more watts. But not until hearing it did I realize that it actually sounds much better than the percentage would convey! - The main thing that jumps out is just how much bass this has! I’m far from a bass-head, and in fact usually listen via great studio monitor over-ear headphones known for a very wide flat soundstage. But holy moly this was fun! The bass however didn’t muddy up the rest of the range. Yes the mids/highs were a little compromised to my ears, but not drowned out. Music compared to the Plus just sounded richer, yummier, more chocolatey (without the calories). - I noticed the pads on the bottom are more spongey like they’re air-cushioned. Maybe my other speaker’s pads just got old, but this seems like an improvement especially given the heavy bass, it may keep it from dancing around while on a hard surface. Also, you can stand the speaker up for narrower spaces. - ProTip: Use your EQs!! Many people forget their computers, phones, Spotify, whatever have equalizers so that they can actually adjust the levels. So when I’m not in the mood for all that bass, I can turn it down (like for the 4783rd playing of “How Far I’ll Go” from the Moana soundtrack) - “A flaw!” I thought! With this bass, its going to be horrible if I turn up the volume. So first I turned up the Plus…and it indeed just got a bit more distorted. My wife turned and gave me a dirty look like “turn it off”. Then I turned up the Ultra and she literally started dancing (Beastie Boys ‘Intergalactic” if youre interested). At max volume it was surprisingly still clear, and darned loud! - I really love (loved?) the Plus, but this Ultra is way beyond the Plus. - Was very audible through my house….granted I live in NYC in a 1500sq ft pre-war, so it may not fill your place up if you have a “normal” sized American house. 😊 See, there’s an upside to living in little NYC apartments….only 1 speaker needed! WATERPROOF-NESS, USES, AND IDEAS: - The size of this, and its features make it pretty versatile! (see measurement photo) - I connected it to my Echo Tap (the kids are keeping the Plus, I’m taking the Ultra) and it's great! Clearly MUCH better quality than I get from my full-size Echo's speaker. Just be sure to keep it a few feet away from your Echo, and away from the wall a bit, or your Echo won't hear you very well due to interference and the echo bouncing off the wall. - IPX6: what does it mean? Well I think this is really important to understand before you take it scuba diving. The first number is for particles (dust, sand) and the second for water. An X just means it wasn't tested, not that it doesn't have any protection from dust/sand. The 6 means it withstands water jets, or to quote the IP standard: “Powerful water jets (12.5 mm nozzle) projected against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects. Test duration: 1 minute per square meter for at least 3 minutes.” My basic version of the test as shown in the picture was to hold it under my faucet for a few minutes. Yes it still works! While I don’t plan on holding it while I shower, its nice to know that it can get splashed on while by a pool/lake, or more likely the kids spilling water on it. THINGS I HAVENT TESTED - Battery life: have not yet let it drain, but Oontz states 20hrs. I used my plus (rated at 30hrs) on camping trips without having to recharge, so I believe them. - Dual Speaker Mode: apparently you can pair this with a 2nd Ultra speaker. I only have this one, so haven’t verified. - Phone Calls: I know it can be done, but I never use a BT speaker because, well, kids. TL;DR: THE GOOD - Great sound, but advise to use an EQ to customize to your tastes especially for highs or to tone down bass - Loud, and clear even when loud - Battery for days (I'll update when it runs down) - IPX6 water resistance - Power and bluetooth lights that are brighter than before, but may brighten a bedroom if you sleep near it. THE BAD - NONE! Ok, if i'm forced to pick something, I might like a battery level indicator so I know how much is left, but that's really knit-picking. Happy to answer any questions.

Great Customer Service and Fantastic Quality Sound

I recently purchased two of these wonderful little speakers and have basked in the rich sounds of my favorite songs through an Echo Dot. These are high quality speakers at a low price. Now I am not tech savy so it took me three tries to pair my speakers; but I was successful (third time was a charm!). Did I say the sound was fantastic! The really neat aspect is you can pick these little guys up and carry the sound all over the house, out to the hot tub, or outside washing the car. How cool is that!!! They really do extend out to 100 feet. But, let me give very high marks to the Customer Service of OontZ. I have never had anyone contact me in less than an hour and these folks sent me helpful emails 3 times within the hour I contacted them. And they did their best to call me by phone; but I was away doing other things. But they tried. Everything about these speakers and the company get 5 Stars.

Luv them, luv them, luv them!

I absolutely love these speakers! I researched all the speakers from the reviews and descriptions. I had to return my mini Bose because the Bluetooth quit working so I wanted to try something else louder and less expensive. I have little square jbls and there great for a small area. The old jam box wasn’t loud enough and to short of battery time. The jbl speaker that’s comparable to this doesn’t have as much base. But a really solid sound and good volume, I love it I was concerned when they arrived ( two days) because they were so quiet. So I charged them overnight and the next day my daughter and I were so excited to try them while cooking in the kitchen, we were blown away with the pure awesomeness of this little pare! You can actually feel the vibration!! There easy to Bluetooth together. Theses are the only ones I found that did this without a cord in this price range. Then outside in the huge backyard I had no problem staying connected to them, around buildings and trees, no cutting out at all and when you get between them it feels wonderful!! I’m extremely happy with my purchase. I hope there’r powerful enough to overpower the sound of the ocean on the deck in baja, yes , I love music when I’m working in the sand! Ja ja! We used them almost on full for 4 or 5 hrs and it didn’t seem to faze the charge. The Bose only lasted a couple hrs, very disappointing! It also lacked base compared to this. I love my new speakers and will recommend them to anyone

Big Sound from a Small Ultra Portable Speaker with a Funny name!

After reading the positive reviews, I recently purchased a pair of the OontZ Angle 3 Ultra's. Very impressive!. I have been familiar with the Cambridge Soundworks brand for a long time. I own a CSW sub, satellite speakers and a Compact Radio. I have always felt like the Cambridge Speakers were exceptionally well designed and a good value. No, I was not paid for this review! I have owned at least a half dozen other portable BT speakers. Most recently the JBL charge.(Attached Pictured) None have come close to the sound of these! My JBL was literally more than 2x the cost of both of these combined and does not come close to the full range sound that these produce. These speakers are a little smaller than my JBL's with similar size drivers. The passive radiator design is an engineering masterpiece. I love the Left Right Stereo pairing feature! When paired in the LR stereo mode they will cleverly tell you Left and Right so you know where to place them for proper effect. As mentioned in previous reviews, the volume db level is excellent. There is some distortion that occurs at different levels and types of music but, is better than most in this ultra portable category. Make sure you go to your EQ settings and adjust to the music. (On my iPhone I use "Rock") I have had no difficulty pairing my phone to the speakers and it always quickly pairs in BT mode upon startup. No these are not perfect... But for the size and price I dare anyone to compare the sound quality. Perfect for travelling with you on vacations to the beach. With airline weight limits set at 50lbs per luggage piece these weigh in at less than a pound each. I also like the fact that they come with a long USB charge cord. This allows them to be set on the counter an play while charging. I do however wish with that they came with a travel case (my JBL's did) but, this may be purchased separately for around $10 ea. Buy these and you will be impressed!

Small speaker-BIG sound

Love this speaker. It's simple to set up, with clear buttons and instructions. The sound is amazing, I can have the speaker in the kitchen and walk into the back bedroom and still hear it clearly. I watch Netflix while drying my hair and I can hear it above my hair dryer. I can hear it outside if I turn up my Kindle or iPad. What I really like is that I'm able to leave my device, usually my Kindle, as I listen to a lot of Audio books, in one place and move the Angle 3 Ultra with me as I do chores, even outside and in the garage for laundry. There isn't any static or broken connection, it's as clear and strong as if I were inside. I've had other speakers and couldn't hear them above the vacuum like I can now. And music sounds beautiful, whether it's classics such as Johnny Mathis, or today's music with lots of bass. This would make a nice gift for anyone.

Great speaker, extraordinary customer service!

Update to my previous review - Shout out to Cambridge SoundWorks extraordinary customer service: I'm revising my previous review from 3 stars to 5 stars. I had been having trouble with my original device keeping a steady bluetooth connection and wasn't sure what I was doing wrong. Shortly after posting my review here, Cambridge SoundWorks reached out to me directly, noting the unit had most likely been damaged during shipping. They sent me a replacement unit immediately, which is working properly. The sound of the replacement unit is great and the bluetooth connection is strong from both my MacBook and my iPad. I use the speaker primarily for listening to streaming radio. The bluetooth connection stays strong even when I take the speaker two rooms over. I had purchased this speaker for myself with the intent that, if it connected with ease and worked well in other nearby rooms in the house, I would purchase another one for my mom. My mom is adjusting to having just moved from her house of 20+ years into an independent living community. I am giving her my iPad mini to try out as a way to stream her music in her new place and wanted her to have a speaker she could move from room to room with her. She is a bit resistant to anything related to mobile devices, so I wanted to get her a speaker that worked as effortlessly as possible. If she encounters user issues, it's reassuring to know that she would be treated well if she reached out to the company.

In the simplest terms.. Awesome.

Oh Holy Crap. If this thing lasts, it'll be the last BT speaker I'll ever buy. Bass out the you know where, mids and highs are right there. I had to adjust my EQ to allow for the extra bass. Clean and crisp at ALL volume levels. I've never had a Cambridge product before, but I'm a huge fan now. The "passive bass radiator" truly brings this thing to a whole new level. The entire speaker literally vibrates from the "radiator", so does my table for that matter. I literally can't say enough about this speaker. Very easy to pair, pretty small, but huge on sound. If you get two, they pair together and act as separate stereo speakers. If I was in the market for bookshelf speakers, the second OontZ unit would be the way I would go. OK, I think i'm finished now. In case you're wondering, I paid full price for this item (worth every cent) and my review was not influenced in any way.

So far the BEST portable speaker by OontZ

So far the BEST portable speaker by OontZ. My first OontZ speaker was an Angle Plus. That speaker was the best speaker for the price at the time($50) I have also had the Angle 3. I had trouble with the first one i got and after a year and my 3rd Angle 3 everything was swell. The only issue was the battery life. It was too short. Almost as if they were listening to my thoughts OontZ came out with the Angle 3 Plus with a bigger battery. Not only did they improve the battery life but they gave it a much sleeker housing and it was slightly larger. This gave it a bit more weight and Balanced out the bass by keeping it planted. The Original angle 3 is too light and bounces around with heavy bass and it doesn't allow the bass to come through clearly. Unfortunately My Angle 3 Plus was stolen about a month ago. When i went back to order a new one I saw that this one was available. I did not hesitate to purchase. It is worth EVERY penny. It sounds amazing. It is better than the Angle 3 by a long shot and considerably better than the Angle 3 Plus. It is considerably louder than the 3 Plus and a bit heavier too. The highs are nice and clear and the bass comes through faithfully. With these small speakers and passive subwoofers i always recommend setting them on a hollow surface(think cabinets). It always improves the bass by way of resonation. They improved every single aspect of it, even the bluetooth range. I can get very far from it and it doesnt cut out. The furthest I've gotten from it is about 50 feet and it was still playing fine. Any other speaker starts to cut off when I pass the 25ft mark I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great priced bluetooth speaker that rivals even the bigger names in sound quality. I have not yet fully depleted the battery so I cant speak for the battery life yet. I will update as soon as I get some more use out of it. Battery Life update: So far the battery seems to last about 10Hrs when the volume is set to max so thats really good.They claim 20Hrs on 2/3rds volume and I believe its definitely possible. Still running loud and clear.
