My grandson immediately started 'strumming' some tunes on it. He loved it - because he could just pick it up and start playing. He said it was easier than carrying around a piano.

Excellent product!!

I bought this finger piano for my nephew at Christmas. (He is 19 and I never know what to get) He took to it immediately and began looking up YouTube videos to learn how to play. The kalimba is beautiful as well. The wood and finish are pretty as well as the keys (stainless I think?).

Wonderful little kalimba!!! Well made. Indistructable. Thick tines. Little thumbs may need to apply more pressure than adults when playing.

Wow!

Wow! I can't believe this beautiful sound is coming from a box and metal things! It plays very well and I got big blisters on my thumbs now cuz I can't stop playing. I just recently found out what kalimbas are and I'm so glad I did!

I ordered the 10 key Mugig kalimba but received a 10 key Gecko kalimba instead, so I'm not sure if that was supposed to happen. But I opened the package and almost everything was there: the kalimba, the cloth bag, the music book, and the culture card. However, it was missing the tuning hammer, but the kalimba was already in tune, so I don't think I have to worry much. The kalimba looks exactly like the picture, except there was was a scratch next to the sound hole. The sound of the kalimba is very sweet and pure, and it's relaxing to play. When I first tried it out, the keys hurt my thumbs, but the second time I played, it didn't hurt at all. The songs in the music book are common melodies that are easy to play (Mary Had a Little Lamb, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, etc.) but I went online and found some pop songs that I prefer playing. A very good product, and I'm very happy with it! It met all of my expectations.

good value for a great thumb piano!

bought as a gift for my college boy. he is always fiddling with a keyboard, so thought he might enjoy. definitely a hit! good quality, beautiful finish to the wood sound box. came tuned and ready to play! would recommend!

Pro Opinion: Beautiful Instrument at Great Value!

I'm a professional musician. I used a Kalimba on a recording of a song many years ago. That Kalimba long since cracked (no doubt, due to my neglect - take care of this instrument!). I've just started re-recording that song and I can't imagine it without the beautiful use of Kalimba. So, I looked and found this here on Amazon. It arrived fast. I just got it today and I'm thrilled! I will note that I can't compare it to the OTHER Kalimbas that you can find here, because I've never seen THEM. But in my opinion, this is a really great value! It comes with a tuning hammer, a bag, and a couple cute little books and more. I recommend keeping this instrument in the box with the foam that it ships in - minimally. All instruments are fragile and delicate and need to be protected and treated with care. It wouldn't make any sense for such an inexpensive item perhaps, but I'd love to have a hardshell case for this thing! It arrived very close to in-tune, sounded awesome . . . But I was curious, so I used a tuner and followed their instructions to tune it (off only very slightly - many people would not even want to adjust the tuning). What I found is that it is disarmingly easy to change the tuning - meaning, if you DO decide to tune this instrument, tap VERY GENTLY! After a while, I got the hang of it and now my Mugig Kalimba sounds even better! If you're not bothered or worried about it being EXACTLY in tune, don't worry about it! And don't let this part of my comment dissuade you, it's a good thing! Most important points, I guess: 1. I haven't compared to OTHER Kalimbas (although Guitar Center does sell a Kalimba that is nowhere as nice for MORE!) 2. It is a great value, in my opinion (comes with a lot of 'accessories' and is a beautiful instrument, regardless of price - for what seems to me to be a very reasonable price). 3. This is not a 'toy' or 'junk' - this is a real, tuning, great-sounding instrument. Enjoy!

A great instrument

This is a great starting kalimba! It is affordable, aesthetiy pleasing, easy to tune and sounds good. As a fairly simple kalimba you can’t accomplish too much note range wise, however that shouldn’t stop you from investing in a new and unique instrument! As a beginner myself I found that this kalimba suited all my needs and was also neatly labeled which helped the learning process along. Overall I’d recommend this kalimba to both experienced and inexperienced musicians alike!

It's simple and lovely

The instrument itself is beautiful, and the sound it makes is of nice quality. The instruction book included is very very basic, with a few classic songs to play by key number, not by note. Would be nice to have more information on tuning though. Overall, I'm more than pleased with the product.
