After doing a great deal of "research" about different machines, we finally decided on the DeLonghi Dedica. We like the small footprint, so it takes up less space on our counters. With the "matching" grinder it looks classy. Had it been solely my choice, I would have chosen a super-automatic machine, but my husband wanted more control. This is a nice compromise. It's easy to use once you learn how, and you can make choices about the amount of pressure when tamping the coffee grounds. Because you need to dump out the used grounds, it is a little messier than a super-automatic. But we were used to that with our decades old Krupps (which continues to work very well and makes delicious espresso). We also loved that we could get it in red to match our other kitchen accessories.

I have had this for several months now so I have been able to really put it though its paces - and it has held up perfectly. I make espresso every morning and afternoon. Every single day! I love this machine!! The water temp is adjustable and there is a place where you can insert a water filter if your water is very mineralized. I use filtered water so I dont need one but its nice to know you could if you needed to. I have learned a few tricks about this unit....and one thing I wish I could change. Sometimes in the afternoon I like a small cup of coffee....but I don't want drip. So I have figured out that if I use a short coffee cup (one that will fit under the heads and holds three single shots) and then fill the single shot filter cup with an espresso grind - and brew a double shot and then a single right after it....I get a perfect tasting cup of coffee. A little hazelnut syrup and some half and half and I'm in heaven. I know....not your standard espresso use...but it works for me. (I guess I am not a coffee snob) I still like my double shot in the mornings with that perfect crema on top but in the afternoon I just don't want such a strong shot of caffeine. I also learned that if you fill the filter cup too full it is really hard to lock it into place. I read some reviews where others had noted the same thing but didn't know why it was so hard to turn. Well I found out that is the reason. So if yours is hard to turn just back out about a half teaspoon of grind, retamp and it will turn and lock easily. The thing I really love about this little unit is that it is so simple to use. No guesswork. Load your grind, push a button. Voila. Steaming milk is super easy too. Now for the one thing I don't like. When it's time to descale....its time to descale and no amount of wheedling or cajoling will change this little units mind. And here is the kicker...you never know when its time. So you could be trying to get that first shot in the morning to jolt you awake....or you could have company over and they are salivating for a latte and a piece of pie.....and you load up the filter cup and hit the button for a double and nothing happens. And then you notice the steam button is lit up an orange color . Uh Oh. So you have to stop everything...take out the filter cup and fill the water tank with descaler/water solution and run the cleaning cycle. It takes about 20 minutes or more. And nope....it won't let you get that one shot before you clean it. The first time this happened to me I just stood there and stared. I thought maybe I could will it to work by staring it down. It took even longer for me to figure out how to run the cleaning cycle the first time. Soooooo.... Yes I love this machine. It works great and is very versatile and takes up such a small footprint in my small apartment kitchen....and Yes I would buy it again....that is how much I love the coffee this little machine spews forth....I just HATE HATE HATE the fact that you just NEVER know when you will not get that cuppa because its time to clean. Sigh.

I was in need of a new espresso machine as my old one was leaking. After weeks of researching per my budget, I discovered this machine. After receiving this machine, I immediately noticed several things that were different from all my past machines. 1. This machine is extremely simple to operate if the owners manual is actually read. 2. This machine is much quieter than any machine I've owned. 3. The time from turning the machine on to ready is truly 40 seconds. 4. This machine has several valuable settings and features available... Temperature has 3 settings. Shot volumes can be easily changed to accommodate user preferences. 5. Removing the chrome cover from the steaming wand, allows better frothing. 6. The resulting espresso and steamed milk produced is excellent. This is an excellent machine out of the box. We'll see as time and usage goes on. So far I am satisfied with my decision to purchase.

I just took this guy out of the box and made a cup of coffee. First impressions matter. Do they remain for the long haul? We'll see. Set up. Nothing to say, except follow directions. Everything goes according to script. Ease of use. Nothing to say, except it does what it's supposed to do. Wait, I haven't frothed milk yet for cappuccino. We'll see about that. If it froths effectively, this machine will well worth the money. What I like: 1) Easy to program. Water was not quite hot enough on my first cup. I can program it for hotter water. 2) It heats up fast. My other machine, a Saeco Aroma (regrettably no longer available new or used), took a while to come up to temperature. I'd give it 15 minutes. The DeLonghi is ready faster. 3) The machine shuts itself off after nine minutes. What if I want a second cup 30 minutes later, as I do every morning? Turn it back on, wait a few, and pull a shot. Shut-off time is easily programmable. The machine has the stainless steel gleam. It's handsome on the counter and does not hog counter space. My only reservation is strength and durability of materials. Not sure what the counter life of this machine will be. Here's to hoping it lives a long and productive life. Just used it three times. At first, the shot was very bitter. After some research here is what I found- 1. 1 scoop of ground espresso in the provided scoop is the right amount to fill the double sized portafilter. Can't over fill the portafilter because then it can't be latched on to the machine. 2. Use filtered water. 3. Only brew the espresso for 20 to 30 seconds. You can manually keep on pressing the double shot button for 20-30 seconds and it will keep it in memory for next time. Now the espresso tastes very good with good crema. If the coffee is brewed for longer than 20-30 seconds, the crema disappears and the shot is bitter.

I've only had this espresso maker a week so realize there could be some surprises ahead of me, never-the-less, it's been a wonderful week! This was a replacement of a much older Delonghi espresso maker that is still functioning (10+ years), but simply wanted to upgrade. This is easier to run, faster to make an espresso, easier to clean, easier to put water in and is a much nicer design. The only downside would be the difference in vibration. My old machine was noisier, but didn't vibrate. The EC680M vibrates enough that the glass espresso cup being filled moves! (Perhaps a heavier cup would remain in place.) Consequently, I bought a bathtub mat and cut it to size to absorb the vibrations. It wasn't that the vibration was intolerable, I just happen to be intolerant of vibrations! Concerning reviews that stated the Delonghi company as difficult to deal with, I've had nothing but fair and timely experiences. I had a coffee maker that had issues, but they dealt quickly and fairly. In short, I see a long and happy future together with my EC680M!! UPDATE: After a couple months of wonderful lattes, espressos, and cappucinos, it seems the pump quit working properly. I've descaled, reset settings to default, replaced the water filter, cleaned every place I can find, yet the espresso just barely drips out. The frother still works correctly, however! I just contacted Delonghi today so will be anxious to hear what they recommend. All dealings I've had with the company have been punctual and reasonable, so will update this review when this is resolved! FINAL UPDATE: So after a lengthy video chat, DeLonghi sent me a new filter basket which fixed the issue. What I assumed was a pump issue was a bad seal that didn't allow the machine to build pressure to push the water through the coffee. In short, issue resolved! DeLonghi was great to work with. I still love this machine!!! TEN MONTHS IN: Still working perfectly. I love this machine so much, I'm considering purchasing a spare in case Delonghi moves on to a different design/model.

As a beginner, I'm shocked at how well, after a little research, I can now make all of my favorite coffee drinks (cappuccino, latte, espresso) and rarely paying $5-7.00 for them anymore :) The manual for this is clear and precise, and includes some pretty good recipes for getting started. I did some research online and got a little more detail on techniques and after just a day, I was making pretty good drinks. Now a month later, I have the buttons programmed for my preferred pull times and have my daily cleaning routine down to 2 minutes. This is well-built, solid & sturdy, and very low-profile. Get a good burr grinder, good weighted tamper, nice milk thermometer, and quality beans-you won't be sorry.

Replaced my Delonghi KMix in YELLOW with this little guy. So far, so good. Delonghi fixed the issue with the coffee holder falling out of the Kmix handle by using very taut pieces of wire. I lay the coffee holder face down and then press the handle down on top of it. Otherwise, it's a struggle. The maker does not stay on for long before turning itself off. So you want to be ready when you turn it on. It will be hot and ready in a moment. The lights on the machine blink thru a sequence and then - wham! - it's ready! I do run some water into my cup to heat it. There is a one-cup and two-cup button to dispense water. Both will give you what I consider to be "too much". Just press the button again to stop the water. The steamer portion also will not stay on too long. Do not click on that switch until you are ready because it gets hot in seconds and will need to be cooled down within a minute. If you turn it on only when you're ready, you'll have plenty of time to steam two containers of milk. I don't like the extra steamer sleeve to froth the milk. I took it off - press a finger nail between the top of it and the swing arm to separate them - and just use the little black tube. Easier to clean and I feel I have more control over the steam. Hopefully, this will last at least as long as my previous Delonghi. For the price, I think it's worth it.

After my second vacation to Italy, I got hooked on their fantastic coffee and brew selections. Not wanting to buy a high end Espresso machine I read several reviews via Amazon and settled for the Delonghi EC680M. It really works and yes the coffee / espresso looks and tastes just like Italy. For the Espresso experts - maybe not so much for us it's just fine. Based upon Amazon customer feedback/reviews we bought 3 different ESE pods to test out the unit. My wife liked the illy dark roast better than the medium roast. I'm a decaf person and the Lavazza Espresso Dek does not taste like American decaf coffee. We found a burr grinder (not on Amazon - sorry) and tried it out on Hawaiian whole bean coffees. Fantastic results. The frother works very well, just practiced a couple of times to get it right. So, for good home brew cappuccino and espresso this unit does the job. Note: we did look at the less expensive models without the external stand-alone frother (Costco and Bjs) and you have less brew control and this Delonghi was not that much more money. Oh yes, but the BlueSnail Stainless Steel coffee tamper. You'll need it to press the grounds into the pod. The supplied plastic one is difficult and too weak for the job. You need to apply around 25-30 wrist pounds of pressure - the weighed BlueSnail does the trick. Delonghi EC680M DEDICA 15-Bar Pump Espresso Machine, Stainless Steel

After auditing my Starbucks account and seeing that I’ve spent over $1,500 on caramel macchiatos since my $600 Breville died for the second time, I came out to Amazon to find a more affordable and smaller espresso maker. I found it with this gorgeous little machine! Now I can make my 3 shots in less than 5 minutes, and I’m spending 80% less by buying the sugar free vanilla syrup from Starbucks and nabbing some bags of caramel drizzle sauce off eBay. I can now enjoy 3 caramel macchiatos per day, and this machine has absolutely handled my constant use like a champ! If you are on the fence about spending the $200, try taking a look at how much you’ve spent in the last few months at your local coffee shop. You won’t be disappointed.
