These Shoes Saved My Life
And I’m only slightly exaggerating! I log about 4-5 miles of walking every day, and I live in Pittsburgh where weather conditions can be dicey in the winter. I purchased these mainly to be my winter walking shoes. The waterproofing appealed to me and I hoped they’d have good traction for snow and ice. My husband and I also had a trip to Acadia National Park planned for early November and I thought the Salomons might come in handy there. WOW, did they ever! I am a huge klutz with poor balance (if I were a D&D character, my Dexterity would be 2). The hiking trails at Acadia were almost all very steep grades, rocky, boulder-strewn, and wet — exactly the sort of conditions where I’d normally slip, slide, and turn my ankles. Honestly, I wanted to turn around and go back to the cabin but my husband insisted so, up we went. These shoes kept me upright the whole time. They gripped the wet rocks and supported my ankles so well it felt miraculous. I really think if I hadn’t been wearing these shoes, I would have fallen and badly injured myself. The waterproofing is also legit. Throughout our trip to Maine, we had to walk through mud and rivulets of water — absolutely no water penetration on the X Ultra with the Gore-Tex. Now, I’m not saying they stay waterproof if you had to wade through deep water, but in ordinary wet terrain hiking conditions they were great. I’ve recently had a chance to test them in an urban snow and slush covered setting, and so far so good. Nice grip on most surfaces and the waterproofing is still holding up (and as a bonus helps to keep the shoes warm.) Spend the money on these hikers; you won’t regret it. My only two very moonier complaints are that the tongue of the shoes is very thick which makes lacing bit difficult. And I have to double-knot or the laces comes undone. Once double-knotted they stay tied, though. They do run large. I normally wear a 7.5. Ordered the 7s and they are still quite roomy in normal socks, but in a thick winter sock they fit perfectly.

Super Comfortable Boot, sturdy, good traction, looks great
I just returned from hiking in the Pisgah State Forest outside of Asheville ,NC. I am not a "hiker". I usually run, but we went hiking on this last trip. The longest I spent in these boots was 8 hours and they were super comfortable. I have an almost flat foot with a history of bad plantar fascitis. Everyone thinks that a flat foot needs a strong arch support, but it's not always true. My feet are flat but strong, and easily aggravated by things bunching under the arch. I didn't give these boots any break in time and for my flat foot, the orthotic included, irritated my foot and felt like a big ball on the wrong spot on my foot. So I swapped out the included orthotic and put in one that I use in my running shoes. My first short hike, I got a little scared because I wasn't used to a foot being really supported. As I walked, I realized that the muscles in my feet were working a bit differently but there was no impact under the arch and therefore the underside of my foot never got fascitis. The next hike, my feet were much more ready and that's when I really started enjoying the feel of these boots. I'd read reviews that said the boots were not waterproof so I was really scared when I started going through puddles of melted frost. I don't know what the deepest puddle was, but my feet remained dry. Honestly I tried to avoid a lot of wet, but I wore them while it rained lightly and my feet were dry. As for traction, they really do have great grip. There were many parts of the trails where it was a steep incline covered with wet leaves. The boots really gripped on both the ascent and descent. I was worried they'd slip, but I definitely felt a confidence with how firmly my foot felt on the ground. The boots are very lightweight as well. I am always a size 6 and I ordered a size 6 and there was room for 2 pairs of socks. It was a bit tight to begin with in 2 socks, but the toe length was perfect (I have a normal width foot but square-ish foot shape) and the toes really had a lot of room. As others have said, the laces are very slippy at first and they came loose twice on my first hike. After that, I took the laces and kind of scuffed them up. Once the laces lost that brand new, shiny coating, they gripped very well and did not loosen on steep inclines. I def recommend scuffing up the laces first. The temp outside was 40 deg down to about 28-32 and my feet were warm in 2 pairs of socks. Because my feet didn't really sweat in that cold temps (cold for me, I'm from Florida), I can't say how they'd do in hot weather although I wouldn't hesitate for the next time I am out in hot temps. The boot was very attractive on my foot and I received compliments on them from tour guides. They are definitely worth the money. Back to the flat foot/arch issue. After 3 hikes, I put back in the orthotic that came with the boots. My feet were now used to the boot and the arch no longer felt like a ball was under it. Next time I go hiking, I will leave the orthotic in. So bottom line, if you have flat feet/or get plantar fascitis, you really should take some walks in these boots first so your feet can get used to the feel and not freak out in the middle of a hike. I didn't do that because I 'just wanna go' but if you have any impulse control, take a few break in walks before the real hike.

Comfortable and stylish
I love my feet and I will spoil them with comfort and a bit of cuteness. I been using Salomon for 5 years and I absolutely love their products. This particular shoe fits as expected, I am a size 9 and ordered the 9.5 for extra room. If you are not backpacking or doing extensive hikes I would recommend you use your regular size instead of the additional space. I put lots of mileage so my feet tend to swell after 12 miles or so. These are water repellent and so far I have gotten lots of compliments on the style and color. I got the purple and it’s very bright. The sole is cushioned and not hard. One of the best features about this shoe is that they don’t feel heavy, they are lightweight considering the design. Definitely recommend this product.

BUY THESE!! DON'T HESITATE!
I purchased these Salomon Women's X Ultra 3 Mid GTX hiking boots in the middle of 2018. I've waited until now to write a review because I wanted to be able to give an honest opinion about them after having worn them in different weather. These boots are comfortable, even when you lace tightly. Your foot does not slide back and forth within the boot very easily. I will say, I had to order a full size down in order for them to fit. I was lucky enough to be able to try a pair of these on in REI before purchasing them on Amazon. The tread on these is aggressive. Have I still slipped? Sure. But not often at all..and we have hiked some pretty steep downward slopes. Boots are easy to lace. Super easy to clean. Today (1/20/19) was the ultimate test of these boots. Not only was it 20° out, it had rained all day the day before, so we were hiking in a lot of mud and water. Not ONCE did my feet get cold (we also only wear warm weather wool socks), nor did any water seep in to the boot! When they say they are water proof..they are NOT joking! If you have any hesitation about purchasing these, don't. I assure you that you will not be disappointed. It is money well spent! I can say, once these wear out...I WILL be sticking with this company 100%!!

BUY THESE BOOTS!!! You'll be a fan too!
I've always had Timberlands with one exception of a Keen (which I didn't like at all - way too narrow and I hated the tread s it was like wearing a cleat). My Timberlands always lasted a long time with a lot of abuse, but wore out inside at the ankle as my foot would always slide up and down. I decided to give these a try. Finally a day of sun and I could get out on the trail. I LOVE LOVE LOVE these. My foot fits snug in the back and although some of the reviewers said it could rub, I didn't have this trouble at all. It was as if I'd had them for years they were so comfortable. My feet are wide (I think I'm part duck with the way my feet are shaped) and these accommodated beautifully. The reason I mentioned Timberlands was not only because the fit was better on these, but they felt light as a feather after the Timberlands. The tread was amazing. We've had a lot of rain lately and I didn't even notice the soggy ground and walking through a few light streams, my feet stayed completely dry. Love these so much think I'm going to get a pair of the speedcross. I'm a devout Salomon's fan now. Oh and my husband is so impressed he's getting a pair too.

Excellent shoe
I just went on a 6hr hike in the Grand Canyon, managed to get these bad boys in right in time! I was a little worried at first because I’ve had hiking shoes in the past and know it takes time to break in but had no choice as I accidentally left mine at home but they did great! I was however slightly unprepared as I also forgot my thick high socks which I do recommend! Other than that, these held up great, great grip on on all the rocks, etc. Plus, they look great! I’m a size 6 regularly, and decided to stick to my size and they fit just fine.

Game Changer
These are great boots, well worth the cost. I only started hiking recently and wasn’t sure if I was going to like it, so bought inexpensive (relatively) shoes locally. I discovered that I love hiking, but my feet were not secure in the old shoes, especially on descents. I have Morton’s Toe (long second toe) and ended up losing a toe nail due to the old shoes. I also experienced a lot of knee pain. These Salomon boots have changed everything. I am hiking (and snowshoeing) pain free. They stay warm and dry and my toes, feet and knees feel great as compared with the old shoes. The only thing that I can’t comment on yet is the traction — I live and hike in the Adirondack Mountains, so I have only used the boots with micro- spikes and snowshoes thus far.

Finally! A quality hiking boot for ladies with wide feet!
I am so happy to have found these! I have high arches/instep, wide (but not well padded) feet, and bunions. I needed a real hiking boot with good tread that I could wear my toe separators in, that also have good ankle support and don't rub where the boot creases with walking. These boots were comfortable right out of the box! I can spread my toes, the soles are rugged but flexible, and they do not make my feet look like boats (like the Merrell Moab did)! They are surprisingly attractive and are easy to take on and off. I thought I was going to have to break down and buy some seriously geriatric-looking boots after trying on 12 pairs of "wide" boots that either pressed on my bunions (New Balance, Vasque), hurt my toes at the crease (all Columbia), or had poor treads (Dr. Comfort).

Excellent product
This is my second pair of Solomon boots. The first pair kept my feet warm and dry through a trip to Ireland during their 50 year record snow. I purchased the second pair as I had broken my foot and it had changed size. Waterproof, sturdy, no slipping on rocks and comfortable. Wore recently on a trip to the Galapagos and wear at ranch. I have a high arch and have to wear orthodic (from broken foot) insert, which the boot accommodates easily. Highly recommend!

All around the winner of several different brands I’ve tired! Best ones I’ve found.
I order edit three different brands to try out. This shoe was the obvious WINNER! Best fit, best arch support, we’ll made, look a little bit more fashion sporty, like a cool pair of tennis shoes!! They are a tad be heavier than the other brands, not enough to notice when wearing. My foot feels secure but not tight, it doesn’t slide around (injury that’s what first comes to mind lol) SUPER SPORTY fashion cuteness! If that matters to you. Probably take a minute to break in but as for now there isn’t any part of my foot or ankle that feels off/ uncomfortable. LOVE!! I’m glad they worked! Totally true to size!!
