Overall great!
We purchased the Outland Firebowl 863 (21 inch) about a month ago. Overall we have really enjoyed it so far! We are in a season of life where we don’t have the time deal with the hassle of a traditional wood fire, so it’s really nice to be able to go outside, turn the Firebowl on for a while, and then turn it off and go to bed. The Firebowl is very warm, especially on nights with little to no wind/breeze. I have tried it during different Outside Air Temperatures from the mid 30’s to 50’s so far. Unfortunately, it doesn’t quite have enough heat to keep you comfortable when it’s below about 45-50 degrees, especially if there’s a breeze. But for spring/summer/fall- it’s going to be great! One good point to end on- wood fires lose brightness as they burn down. This thing remains bright no matter what flame setting you have it on, which is really nice!

Just buy it.
I researched portable propane fire pits extensively. I read reviews for every brand that i could find. We love a campfire, and even though most places we camp there is a fire ring, we have a few problems. I have a lung disease that is aggravated by smoke, and there are many wood restrictions for bringing wood into a park. The park fire rings are not always where we would consider them the most convenient. The embers from a wood fire can leave burns in chairs and awnings. Obviously I wanted a one stop fix-all, so I went looking. The Cypress fit right in the size range i was looking for. One of the advertisements I read said that it had a new style burner in it. I purchased the Cypress with the thought that I may have to do some modification/replacement of the regulator and gas supply to get it to mimic the "roaring fire" we like...ok not roaring but "healthy". I had that modification thought from reading reviews of other gas fire pits. The Cypress fired up and was just a little less flame than I would have asked for, but as the lava rocks heated up it became a very nice orange flame. The flame was about 2 to 2.5 feet high. There was no sound from the gas. So...here is the scoop. We love the Cypress. It is clean burning. It is instant on. It is instant off. It has a cover that fits well. It has the kind of quality workmanship that I admire. It will create a fire that mimics a wood fire. In South Dakota, most mornings, even in the summer, are cool. We often get up early. We have never considered starting a wood fire to ward off the chill when we go outside for our morning cup of coffee. Trust me when I say that the Cypress changed that. We will fire it up. I also bought the zip up carry case for the Cypress. If you are like me and like things that work well...get the case. Based on the quality that I see in this fire pit, I just ordered the propane tiki torches made by Outland. Can't wait. No more leaky torch oil.

Very pleased with the Firebowl
Very pleased with the Firebowl, it is a great portable fire pit option. We live in Colorado and I have been worried about the fire danger and got this as an option to use and it exceeded my expectations. Size is perfect and flame was great and kept us all warm. Roasted marshmallows and really enjoyed the fire. We used it two nights for about 6 to 7 hours and used about 1/2 tank of propane, but we did have it at full flame. Propane is $19 to refill so $5 a night of a worry free fire is fine by me. I am happy with having the option when everyone is ready to go to bed, you just turn off the propane and no worries of embers in the wind.

Extend your deck time
I love this fire bowl. I'm using it on my redwood deck and it puts out PLENTY of heat. In fact, I need to turn it down. It is beautiful to watch and mesmerizing. The best part about this beautiful fire bowl is that when it is going to rain, I just unhook it and put it away....EASY. I also got the Outland propane tank cover and I am very pleased with the combo. I can leave the propane tank out on the deck all the time, it looks good and I don't have to worry about it being out in the weather.
Pretty Swag
Toasty warm
Love! Great for our backyard and to take camping. Best of all, no smoke!

Awesome, best fire bowl - love it!
Wow, this fire bowl really exceeded our expectations! We immediately put it to use, in the backyard, camping at the beach, camping at a state park! It has been moved, used and thoroughly enjoyed! This was a gift for my husband and we LOVE campfires, fire pits, etc. unfortunately having asthma it put a damper on any wood burning action. This fire bowl has brought us back to being able to enjoy flames without the smoke, embers and mess of a typical fire. Easy set up, turn it on and instant enjoyment! Time for bed, just turn it off - no worry about burning embers. We maintain the setting on medium and it's good flames, nice warmth and if you want to "kick it up" just turn the dial. Even on low setting, it's a nice glow effect and takes the chill off. We've been approached everywhere we bring it wanting to know where to buy one! Also, the company is FANTASTIC! Our lid didn't fit, just slightly too small. We called and they immediately sent us a new one!! No hassle, great customer service and quality control. Highly recommend getting your own!

This is a good one! Probably the best.
This is a review for the Outland 863 Cypress portable outdoor firebowl. I bought this for RV camping, to give up on the mess and hassle of firewood. There is so much more to gain than just the tradeoff in weight and bulk of bringing (taboo) firewood. The social gathering and meal around the evening fire is just such a tradition and pinnacle important aspect of camping. Burning gas seemed at first like such sacrilege! I will admit I was stubborn at first, with a heavy bias for the tradition of burning wood fires for so long. But with age comes wisdom. I am now a believer. PRO’s: This model is a very low profile design. It looks great and plenty of heat. There is no smoke. Way more convenient than wood fires. Takes up less space than with wood. Portability- not a “fixed” fire pit. No axe, shovel, paper, kindling, or fire-starters needed. Less mess- nothing to sweep, clean up, or ashes to empty. Instant gratification- Light it, and the fire is ready Enjoy a fire even when it rains -underneath the side awning of the RV, or a pop-up or whatever. Safer. Less risk of starting a forest fire. (Smokey is dancing the jig!) Turn it off and go to bed- no more worries about leaving a fire burning overnight, or when you leave campsite. More environmentally friendly than burning wood (less carbon). …and if you still want to burn a wood fire also, Hey! There’s nothing stopping you from still doing that too! The Cypress 21 Firebowl won’t get jealous! Cons: (Not really cons- but rather my additional comments) • Propane costs money. I have a nearly unlimited supply of firewood available to me. (Not the firebowls fault.) • I wish the hose was little longer. I use an extension hose with quick couplers. (Optional- see below) • As-built, the firebowl hose with regulator is only designed to connect to an independent propane tank. For my use, I put together another hose kit with quick couplers for the option to run off my RV propane supply line (for a bbq) as well. (optional- See below) • It’s not a fire that is meant/rated to cook over -although nothing is stopping you from roasting marshmallows or whatever. It would seem this could be rated, designed and meet the additional criteria as a cooking appliance as well with minimal agency approval (CSA/AM Z21.58). I think the manufacture has opportunities for additional accessories: cooking grates, griddles, roasting skewers, rotisseries, etc. (recommendation) I am the one that asked the question (in the question section above) what the PSI of the regulator is. I wanted to run off the gas line on my RV. I received the answer directly from customer service FMI Brands Inc.: The hose inlet connection is the standard QCC-POL type connection for 20#LP cylinders and the LP gas regulator is low-pressure 2.74kPA (11"WC). Our LP gas hose has a 5/8-18UNF threaded female outlet coupling (connection to Firebowl gas valve). The Outland Living Firebowls are CSA Approved to be used with the hose and regulator provided with our units as we have tested and certified this product using the low-pressure regulator. The regulator cannot be disconnected from the hose as it is one piece, however, the hose with the regulator can be removed from the Firebowl unit. To do so, remove the black shrink surrounding the coupling of the Firebowl gas valve connected to the hose and then proceed to untighten this connection. We do not have a quick-connect option at this time, however, if you are interested in this modification, we highly recommend reaching out to a professional gas fitter or propane technician to ensure the safety standards are met for this modification. For any RV’er that would like to add the ability to put their firebowl on their PRE-REGULATED gas supply line on their RV you will need the following parts to switch freely between a propane tank or your quick connect for your BBQ: 1 Brass Coupling, 1/4" x 1/4" Female Pipe https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PNIL48/ 1 Brass Half-union 3/8” Flare X ¼ Male Pipe https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003RW4IWE/ 1 Brass Propane/Natural Gass ¼” quick connect kit- Shutoff Valve & Full Flow Plug https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y3HTK8W/ 1 Brass 3/8” Female Flare X ¼” Male Pipe https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008E5CUEM/ 1 12 feet Low Pressure Propane Quick-Connect Hose- ¼ Safety Shutoff Valve & Male Full Flow plug for RV’s https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XK43NL3/ Pipe thread sealant or tape(used only on NPT connections) https://www.amazon.com/44094-Slic-Tite-Thread-Premium-Length/dp/B01FXXV048/ Remove the hose from the Outland Firebowl at the gas valve (covered in black shrink tubing). The first 2 parts in this list will be used to attach the male part of the quick coupler on the firebowl itself. Use the 3/8” Female Flare X ¼” Male Pipe fitting to attach the female part of the quick coupler to the supplied Outland Firebowl hose. Use the thread sealant or tape only on the pipe threads- not on the flare fittings! Tighten and check for leaks. You will likely need to use the 12’ extension hose between the firebowl and an RV depending on the how long your RV gas hose is. It will even come in handy if running off a propane cylinder as well. I hope this review helps others. Not only with additional information, but confidence this is the right fire bowl for you.

21 inch fire bowl review
Awesome fire pit. Puts off alot heat. Only thing I noticed about the one I received. The silver burner ring was not centered in bowl. It was off to one side. The younger me would have returned for another. But with the rocks put in it. You cannot tell it's off centered. I use this on my back covered deck with no problems. Will take to my lake home as well when we visit. Should last me a life time, if I keep it out of the rain.

Less glamping, more necessity these days
Bans during fire season (in CA, OR, WA, & part of SD that we've had experience in) are changing how we camp. I originally thought this purchase was "glamping" but I've been in many parks & camps that have banned traditional fires (for very legitimate safety reasons). We were never into roaring bonfires so this, even on low, suits our expectations perfectly. After about 10 minutes we need to back up the chairs to stay in the comfortable zone. I purchased a small separate propane tank for this fire bowl so no setup. We've felt the ground under the bowl after shutting off the propane and (surprise to us) could detect no extra warmth in the ground. So we've had a campfire under our (very high) awning in the rain. Very romantic.
